This is honestly a great addition to any ones Steam library, seriously!

There is so much content here, there is even mod support (however it's more primitive than Halo Custom Edition from almost 2 decades ago due to no traditional server browser and hosting).

It's also far more bang for your buck than Halo Infinite will ever be! You don't have to buy every game, in fact you can just buy the Halo 3 "DLC"on its own which will add MCC to your library!
MCC supports cross platform multiplayer, online co-op (a bit glitchy, anyone who isn't the host will have input lag) forge, public player hosted custom games, firefight (even with the flood!) and even theatre mode!
Yeah, that's right, nearly all the features of classic halo games are here with some even being enhanced!

Unfortunately we no longer have vital systems such as a postgame partyup feature, proximity chat (I really miss that one 😢), map/gamemode veto system, auto team balance or modded dedicated servers (Halo: Custom Edition had this).
However with enough of a push from the community these features could return in the future.

All in all, the complete package is without a doubt one of the best value things you can get on Steam and is well worth the buy. The MCC contains multiple titles with nearly each individual one lovingly being called "one of the best games of all time", that's a fact.
I can personally say that about Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3 and even Halo Reach as much as I trash talk that one, just buy it!

Also the mod tools are exclusive to Steam so there's that 😉

Oh man... I still remember experiencing this back in 2012, the utter disappointment.

It was the Halo game that initiated the downwards spiral of the franchise over the last decade.
The game that stupidly put a face on the forerunners which destroyed their mysteriousness along with the hints that they were ancient humans.
It confused us by making Elites part of the Covenant again even though they were human allies in Halo 3.
It threw away the grand action with horror elements storytelling of classic Halo games and replaced it with some sad sack feely weely drama nonsense.
It threw out recognisable art style and sounds and replaced them with far inferior imitations and outright deviations.

It also gave us the anti fun abominations known as Prometheans. Yep, cause teleporting enemies that can be revived infinitely by floating devices coupled with the swarms of hound things that can shoot from walls is totally going to be exciting to deal with for 90% of the campaign... Especially when your ammo reserve is 1/3 of what it is in older games in the franchise leaving you to only use the Promethean weapons throughout majority of the campaign...
It also had terrible multiplayer which at the time had the fastest population drop in the franchise history (now surpassed by Infinite).
What a mess this game was, it was quite the sign of what was to come from 343i over the next decade that's for damn sure.

Mad respect to 343i for bringing MCC to PC and giving us mod tools for it.
But man, they really are hopeless at making their own Halo games...

It's a struggle to get into, it honestly comes off as a worse arena shooter than Unreal Tournament 3 from 2007. It suffers typical modern gaming issues such as oversimplification, lack of a community server browser, awful UI and hero shooter elements where there shouldn't be any.
Admittedly I've never been a fan of Quake, but that aside I don't see this ever pulling in anyone other than hardcore fans of the series, and even then I wouldn't be surprised if they're sticking to the older games anyway.
One nice thing I can say though is that the field of view in this is perfect.

If I want an arena shooter fix I'll jump into UT99 or UT2004 as they have far more to offer.

This genuinely feels like a downgrade from MW2019 which in itself had issues.

The guns feel way off, for example a 7.62mm machine gun will tickle the enemy by doing minuscule damage and while when mounted has more far more recoil than a 5.56 mm assault rifle and slower movement speed, and that assault rifle will somehow do more damage with a much smaller round and be overall far more effective.
Then you have SMGs which are ridiculous when you consider they are going up against soldiers wearing body armour and pistol rounds have no chance of penetrating it, yet they hit as hard as an assault rifle...

The shotgun has far too little range, too much spread and the damage falloff is far too soon. It will consistently get overpowered by every other gun in the game at anything more than 5 metres which is less distance from wall to wall than what you get in an average room. A shotgun is supposed to be the most effective room clearing tool at you disposal yet here it is not.
When you consider that there is multiple weapons that can one hit with ease at any range such as the lever action and sniper, having the shotgun be this under powered and under ranged makes no sense.

The perk system is worse than MW2019, you're limited to presets that have timed perks that unlock as the match progresses. Perks that would help you counter campers are now timed.

The lock on from people using gamepads is excessive and frankly makes the game way too easy for them, if they are looking vaguely towards an enemy, aim and fire, they will get a kill in less than a second. whatever they did to change the recoil in this game is completely negated by this lock on menace.

Graphically speaking it seems like a downgrade over MW2019 but that could just be because this is a beta, some maps look more simplistic and some effects are objectively worse such as the shirt movement while your walking that makes it look like you're in gale force winds until you stop moving.

Lastly there is a ridiculous checkbox that you're forced to accept before you can even play where they want to push you to be a softcock and follow the "community conduct" blah blah "don't make fun of this and that cause people are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and have thin skin these days".
This is a Call of Duty game, anyone who experienced an original MW2 lobby back in the day gained thick skin and some hilarious new trash talk skills. Trying to force people to act friendly to each other in a game about killing each other, in itself is ridiculous and frankly tonedeaf.
Next thing you know they will ban you because you teabagged a downed opponent and it made them cry, this isn't even out of the realm of possibility either because we live in a clown world that accepts and pushes for this kind of sad, delicate mentality 🤣

Verdict:
Give the full game a miss and gauge if it's worth buying a few months down the track, this feels off currently and may not get changed for the better later on.

The perfect way to introduce a new player to the original Half Life while also changing things up for people who already experienced the original.

This is an excellent demonstration of why it's a great thing for developers to give tools to the community and for publishers to allow the right to enhance an old title. This is a remaster done with passion instead of greed and it really shows!

What this is essentially, is you paying for mods, something you can get for free and with much greater variety using Skyrim Nexus.

So you buy this here on Steam but guess what. It doesn't download through Steam...

Oh no, no, no that'd bee too normal and user friendly.

Instead you have to make a POS Bethesda account, open "Creation Club", click on "purchased" in the top right then click on "download all" on the bottom to actually use this content...

If you expected to just be able to let Steam do what it does for basically every other game DLC then you're sorely mistaken because as said this is literally a collection of paid mods downloaded through Creation Club.

This is where I wish I could rate things using a star system instead of "yes or no". In that case I'd give this a 3 out of 5.

[IMPORTANT] Make sure you have a sharpen filter enabled if you use TAA otherwise the TAA will blur out much of the detail!

Does this make a difference? Yes. You'll notice fabrics actually have some detail now and some surfaces will gain new detail such as scratches and bump mapping and weapon textures are better. It's not a massive difference but it is definitely noticeable if you've played the game long enough in the past without it.

There are some things that don't seem to have been touched however such as wear damage, dirt decals etc but overall there is definitely an improvement, I didn't personally have a noticeable performance hit running it with my GTX 1070 at 1920x1080 with all settings on ultra.

One problem with this content is the space it takes up. over 50 GB on top of the game installation. unfortunately it doesn't replace what already came with the game to save space which is the main issue here. This should have already been in the base game with the texture detail setting being the control which would have at least halved the extra space this uses with this DLC method.

Another issue is that it's inconsistent, it would have been far nicer to see the obviously low res original textures be brought up to par with the much nicer original ones that are already in the base game to level it out, instead this just ads more resolution to already good textures and slightly improves the really poor ones such as desk tops so you get this mix of sharp detail on some objects that sit next to glaringly obvious low res ones that have only had minor improvement because the percentage of improvement seems to be linear regardless of original texture resolution.

If you have spare storage space you're not worried about using for other things and the vidmem to run it then by all means use it, this won't blow you away at all but you will notice improvements, some much better than others.

This game is a banger, I highly recommend it especially if you love the WWII setting and want to see it in a gritty, raw, PTSD inducing, tactical, brutal, hectic and rewarding way!

Seriously, give games like Battlefield V and Call of Duty Vanguard a miss and pick this up instead!

It has quite a learning curve and you'll quickly realise bullets actually hurt but once you find your feet and set yourself up with a good squad you'll have an absolute blast, the community is always willing to help if you get stuck too so don't be afraid to ask. Best thing to do is get into it and get into character, playing as a medic can be quite hilarious with the commentary you often come across, games like this may be niche but honestly they are the best in class when it comes to comradeship and genuinely feel more rewarding to play compared to the twitchy shooters especially when the entire team works like a well coordinated war machine!

Wasn't a great game on launch and is still flawed in many ways, also absolutely littered with hackers souring the experience even more.

If you want a great WWII shooter on large battlefields with far more teamwork, tactics and brutal gameplay get Hell Let Loose, that game feels far more rewarding to play than this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥...

Play Halo Infinite for free and be disappointed or buy this for an extremely reasonable price and actually enjoy myself?

I'm going with the latter 👌
