I went into this game thinking that it was going to be like Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing. I really like both of those games but I think this one misses the mark that the other two hit really well.

Littlewood does some things almost really well, but there is a lot that is lacking.

- Your energy bar is the same as the day cycle. It lets you know exactly how much time and how many actions you can do before your day is over. However, your energy stays cripplingly low the entire game until you get an item that (essentially) completely removes the energy element from the game. You get small upgrades but they are so small I didn't even notice them.

- There is a great amount of things to collect and favours to do for your villagers and you are rewarded for all of them. The issue is that some of the most useful items and structures are locked behind the most inane checklist system I've ever been subjected to. I didn't get to most of them until the last few hours of the game. If I didn't 100% the game, I wouldn't know these things exist. Other games give you an idea of what you're working towards. Littlewood hides it from you until the moment you get it. It's hard to understand what to prioritise your resources towards when everything is a black box.

- The story and characters are as deep as a puddle. All of the dialogue repeats ad nauseam, the dates with other villagers all go nearly the exact same way, and there is no real story. There is a (tiny, tiny) bit of interesting lore built up but nothing is done with it.

- The balance is way off. Some things take way too long to get. This ties in with an earlier point of unlocking things way too late. Some things aren't possible to progress for weeks and weeks until you roll the right RNG and get the item you need.

I had a blast for the first few hours until I had enough time sunk into this to finish it. If I knew the grind that was ahead of me, I don't think I would have chosen to start Littlewood in the first place. It certainly has its charm and I know a lot of people would love it, but it's not my thing.

KUNAI is a visually impressive, well polished little platformer, but man is it boring! Levels consist of chains of simple rooms. Each room contains some amount of spikes and/or predictable enemies that can almost always be run past. Though movement can be quite enjoyable through the use of the grappling hooks, it gets old quickly. Combat is floaty and unsatisfying. I will not be finishing this game.
