I just bought this game, and here are my thoughts. Be aware that this review might change, so take it with just a very tiny grain of salt.

BASICALLY:
game good, bad marketing

DETAILED SUMMARY:
From a purely objective point of view, this game is good. Although that statement doesn't add up, especially if you look at the games popularity. The guns feel good, the gameplay is consistent, and the game mechanics are intuitive. From my experiences so far, I think this game preforms exceptionally well as a traditional take on the Virtual Reality FPS genre. To me, it hits all of the boxes a successful game of that type would need to hit. HOWEVER, something about this doesn't feel right, and I don't think its because of game design.

Although the game is really good, its downfall is that the marketing is beyond horrible. It doesn't reflect the nature of the game at all, and the way it is advertised to me seems to be geared towards an entirely non-existent audience.

From what I have seen online, it looks like VAIL is geared towards e-sports. Let me be clear, no-one on planet earth, will ever buy a game, that's marketed to be purely for e-sports. Anyone who likes e-sports, only likes e-sports, for games they already play themselves. That point is also completely ignoring the fact that most people don't even care about e-sports.

CONCLUSION:
The truth is, VAIL is good. However, people don't play VAIL, because VAIL is marketed to people that don't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ exist.

I'm recommending this game purley because it is fun. Although it lacks an actual playerbase.

good ♥♥♥♥, Bethesda fixed it.
