Let me be clear, I have only just gotten started in this game, but the palpable amount of depth here is very clear. My friends and I cheekily bought this game on sale as a side activity. However, it quickly took the main stage as the center of our collective attention.

Starting in the Haven district, I was originally underwhelmed by the slums and basic activities. That was before I realized the scale of the district-- the verticality is INSANE and is jam packed with tons of pastimes to take part in (THERE'S EVEN A SPORT WITHIN THIS GAME WITH ITS OWN VARIATIONS AND ARENAS, GAME BALL ALL DAY BABY). By the time my friends and I had obtained some mid-level chips to help us navigate this world, we started to feel that we wished the overworld was bigger. That was the instant we found out THE HAVEN DISTRICT IS ONLY THE BEGINNING, BABY-- THIS WORLD IS HUGEEEEEE.

Of course a dope game world matters none if it isn't a joy to navigate. Hover really excels here, the movement is the most gleeful thing you can possibly imagine, it never gets old. Running, jumping, bouncing, sliding, grinding, wall riding/jumping/sliding and stunting are your methods of travel. For me, I used to be a huge fan of CS surf maps and GMOD parkour mode, and this game really embodies that free spirit to the max. It doesn't squander it either, where most games would stop at racing and time attack modes, Hover offers a huge variety of missions to take part in-- all of which can be done solo or with a group! How rare is that??

The atmosphere is worthy of writing my mom about and I intend to, the glowing neon, hyper energetic freestyle atmosphere is overwhelmingly charming and I swear to god I actually have the soundtrack playing on Spotify pretty regularly-- the music is always either incredibly chill and groovy or HYPE AF BOI.

It doesn't matter if you're /dancing, cruising at 60mph or facing off with friends in the game ball arena/race of your choice-- the world is absolutely infectious and immersive.

The upgrade and leveling system play into the world insanely well-- by destroying propaganda/radar dishes, spraying graffiti, finding collectible items, chasing spy drones/traitors, or completing missions you gain experience and level up your character. By doing so, you unlock slots for chips that you get from containers and missions all over the city. There are many different levels and varieties of chips to help you build stats that fit your playstyle, or even just a specialized character for your team. These chips can be taken at face value or essentially gambled at e-swap machines that will either eat your chips or give you that next BA upgrade you've been lusting after.

Is there any danger in this game? KINDA. Fun is illegal in this city (I can't think of a better plotline than that, get the stick out of your rear end if you don't think that's cheeky af), and cameras always have an eye out for you. If you get caught, a secubot or e-cop will hunt you down and relocate you to a timeout tube somewhere nearby. Get caught 3 times and you go to PRISON BOI. Then you get to BREAK OUT OF PRISON. It doesn't sound like a huge deal, but when you're running an illegal gameball race against the rival gang and you trip a camera and are now outrunning the other gameball players AND THE LAW IT GETS CRAZY. Don't feel like getting locked up? Find a radio antennae and hack it to clear your record!! DO YOU SEE WHAT I AM GETTING AT? THE WORLD IS SPRAWLING AND DAMNED FUN.

I definitely recommend this game to anyone, and it's a huge shame that it doesn't have a larger playerbase. However, as of right now there are always plenty of people online at any given time to give your session some life and chaos. Get in here and GET HOVERING.
