Angels Fall First is what i'd describe as the Battlefront 3 we never got.

It's a sci-fi, large scale combined arms shooter, with a mix of infantry combat, ground and air vehicle combat and space dogfighting and ship boarding.

As a multiplayer shooter, it's servers are kiiiiiinda dead, but I think there's pick-up games here and there.

However, it has very solid and fun singleplayer computer bot games, akin to Battlefront 2.

Technically still in Early Access, but it's pretty much a fully fledged title.

At first, it can be kinda confusing to get into, with the many somewhat poorly designed menus and the complex loadout system (Albeit, it's not that bad once you figure it out)

Unfortunately, on the bad side of the coin, this game looks and feels quite old, and it basically is. It's essentially a 2009 game, that's been built upon for several years and was originally a mod for Unreal Tournament 3. As such, it also still is on the long out of date Unreal Engine 3.
As such, this game is filled with tech debt from 10+ years ago and might as well a lost Mechanicus artifact that has been rediscovered by the Mechanicus, who no longer have any clue how the hell it works. It performs pretty badly for it's visuals due to some questionable optimization choices, ESPECIALLY in space battles.

Space battles I tend to get sub 40 frames in on a BEEFY rig made to run modern games at high FPS 1440p.

That is to say, as a relic of a bygone era, there is not much like it out there any more and as such, I generally recommend it.

One of the better VR games I've played.

It feels like a fun combination of Pistol Whip, Robo Recall, Superhot and action movies.

The soundtrack is awesome.
The combat is pretty fun and it's very active. Requires a lot of ducking, dodging, leaning, aiming

The mission design is really fun too, some really fun missions here

Dagger Directive is basically the tactical shooter genre boiled down to the purest elements. It's built off the bones of the classics such as the first Ghost Recon and the early Delta Force titles.

There's not much room for fancy pants tactical barbie, you get camo choices, gender, voice and helmet choices.

You're not individually putting stuff on your plate carrier, you aren't deciding which of the ten foregrip, 30+ red dots and holographics, 5 laser aiming modules or which of the two suppressor types you want to use, nor their exact position on the gun.

You get the only things you'll ever need, your rifle, your ACOG, your GL and your suppressor. You're not picking between a heap of random options that do the same thing. You get a selection of curated equipment and you pick and choose whatever you need according to your mission requirements and playstyle.

There's around 25-ish guns, with a few more to be added. Most of them serve some degree of variety. You're not picking between 10 AR-15/AR-10 variations, you get an M4, M4A1, M16A4 and the C7 rifle and that's basically it for AR rifles. You get AUGs, OICWs/XM29s, a variety of marksmen rifles, smgs, MGs, Anti-Tank launchers and pistols.

Speaking of playstyles, Dagger Directive is on the more open ended side, with big sandbox style levels that give you complete freedom of movement, assuming you're willing to hoof it on foot. Lots of variety in terms of ranges, as you're often fighting at distances up to 300m+

In terms of mission variety, you get three campaigns, each having five missions each. All of them have a different theme and environment, from the frigid forests of Canada, to the rocky sands of Mexico.

Dagger Directive supports co-op, but it's far more single player designed than most tactical shooters. In terms of carry capacity, you're a one man army. Capable of rucking an M4, a M240 and an RPG 7 across long distances without slowing down in the slightest. You're still limited by backpack space and maximum carry capacity, but it's extremely lenient to make up for the fact the game is balanced for singleplayer play. You have no AI teammates, but you can play in four player co-op if you have friends.

You also have freedom to save-load whenever you want. You die in one shot generally, but the freedom to save and load lets you pace yourself however you want and gives you room to experiment and try different tactics, This also helps avoid making the long stretches of navigation something you have to repeat after dying. This is something most modern tactical shooters do not let you do

It's easily one of the more unique tactical shooters on the market right now because it's aiming to be on the same level as the original tactical shooters of the early 2000s. It doesn't try to be fancy, and for that I appreciate it a lot.

One of the better old-school styled shooters.

Essentially a love letter to titles like Blood, Quake and Resident Evil 4.

It's got some very fresh gunplay, great level design and very fun combat in general

Unfortunately. The lead and now only developer is going to jail for some unknown reason.

Either way, it seems likely that development will be on hiatus for a year and a half or at worst three years. Or maybe it'll never be resumed.

Hopefully best case scenario, developer is let out for good behavior. Either way, we've got one last major update until the looong wait.

I think this game is one of the VR GOATS.

It's probably got some of the most satisfying melee combat, and it's actually fairly difficult and has a pretty decent skill curve.

Dialogue is pretty fun, and the boss fights are fun.

Pretty lite on roguelite mechanics, but they're there enough to be enjoyable.

Could use a little more bonus content such as some new weapons and stuff though
