Hollow Knight is a interesting metroidvania style game. I've played several metroidvania style game before, and i love them.

The combination of exploring and finding new equipment and powerups not only makes you stronger, healthier, and more capable to take on stronger foes, but many times they also allow you to explore new areas you couldn't reach or get into before.

Hollow Knight started out fun, with a large area for me to explore, currency to collect, and so called people to find a talk to. After about 3 hours into the game, that fun ground to a halt. There's is a quick and unforgiving difficulty spike as you push on from the initially mapped area.

No matter where i went i either faced giant foes i had no chance against, enemies whose defenses i couldn't penentrate, and bosss creatures that smashed my face into the ground over and over. No matter where i found, i only found death, and that was quite unpleasant.

On top that, i wasn't able to find any powerups or eqiupment that would make me stronger and more capable of taking on these stronger foes, nor could i ind any items that would help me miitigate the damage i took, and no the healing spell you get at the start does diddly squat for you in a fight.

I have to mention that i have a cognitive disability that makes me take longer to process information that other people, which means my reaction timing for most things sucks, and cannot really improve. Thus i am reviewing this from a point of few from someone who has congitive disability with the intention to inform other people with a cognitive disabilty.

Thus, if reaction timing is not a problem for you, and you don't mind dieing over and over in the hopes that next time you'll do better, then you most likely will even enjoy this game alot. Otherwise, I can't really recommend this game to people with cognitive disabilites.

Snow was a fun, relaxing, zen like game for me. Exploring Sialia was a blast, finding my way down all the trails, getting in the helicopter to go to places where i couldn't get to via lift, and using my remote camera rover to figure out where i was was a blast. Trying out the snowboard was a blast. I had a lot of fun with SNOW....

but that fun didn't last. Sialia was the only open mountain map in the game, and it became boring after awhile. It didn't take long until i had seen everything there was to on Sialia multpile times, been down each slope, been to all th tracks, all the hidden areas, forests, towns, resorts, vineyards, etc. After a while, with nothing new to see, the mountain just became boring, and with no new open mountains to explore, I hadn't had the urge to pick it up again.

Recenty, i found out that they released a new explorable mountain in august, so i was excited to jump in the game again to experience the new mountain just to find the mountain was not on my list. So i pressed the plus button to find that it plus a large number of events held behind a paywall, and the worse kind of paywall. Microtransactions.

I didn't mind seeing microtransactions in the game before, but now that your putting content behind microtransactions, that is unacceptable.

One word of advice for the developers: When you come out of early access, provide one price for all the explorable mountain content you have in the game ( like 40-50 dollars for 3 to 5 explorable mountians) and i will not only pay it but i will recommond it to everyone else.

But until then, until the game's full release, until i can get all content for one low price, I cannot recommended for others to play in full honesty. Putting content like that which is needed to keep the game fun and not become repetitive and boring behind microtransactions is not acceptable practices.

For a few weeks now I have been looking for an rpg that I could lose myself in on this 2007 macbook pro that only has 256 mb of vram on an old video card and 3 gigabyte's of ram. The search has been long and hard.... then yesterday I during the Steam Autumn Sale I picked up Dust...

Oh my god! Dust is such an awesome game, and I don't know why I have completely ignored this game in three years since it's release. I am a gamer who got into gaming with games such as Legend of Zelda, Secret of Mana, Castlevania, and Metroid. This game has elements of all those, and it stokes that nostalgia nerve so hard that I just want to experience more of this game.

On top of that the story is great and has tough emotional moments that will make you think twice about your actions. The music is so pretty and it always fits the mood of what's going on. In fact, there are many times when the music stops cold, leaving a feeling of either dread or just calmness, depending on the situation.

The art style and character design is kind of unusual, where every single character you meet is some kind of animal person, but that is cool, again it's a throw back to some of the quirkier games in the 16 and 32 bit era.

The combat is also a lot of fun. It is fast, you'll be using your mouse to kick up a wind storm, put a little magic from your helper in the mix to create a wide variety of effects.

There is a wide range of difficulty levels that will suit every gamers needs, so you can go for hard mode and have a real challenging experience that really requires you to respond to things and be on your toes, or you can go on casual difficulty and just enjoy the story and the exploration side of the game.

Overall, if you've grown up on games from the 16 and 32 bit era, if zelda, metroid, and castlevania are some of your favorite retro games, you will love this game.

For someone looking for another 80s/90s syle exploration rpg, I highly recommend this game.

This is a great open-world metoridvania action adventure game with rpg-ish elements. The best part of this game is that 99% of the adventures are community made (another words, made by other players).

In this game you play as a ninja who has arrived on the world of Kryl for adventure. There are three training maps, 1 developer made adventure map,; then the rest of Kyrll is yours to explore. You can go in multiple directions from where you left off, or you can teleport to any part of the surface to find more adventures below. As you complete adventures in this open exploration mode, you'll be invited by your sensei to complete these story driven epsiodic quests.

The is free to download and play, but if you want you can support the developers. I recommend this for any who has enjoyed 2d side scrolling platforming action who also enjoys open world games.

This is the best Ys Game available for Steam. The world is quite large compared to Oath of Felghana and there are plenty of places to explore. The bosses are difficult as always in these games, and they get even more insanely difficult as you go furhter in. I had so much fun exploring the islands of Canaan i also like the upgrade system very much. The final that I love about this is that this game allows you carry healing items, which was one of the most annoying things about the other games, expeciallyy Ys Origin. If you are a Ys fan, you should pick this one up.

When you start it, this game seems like your average city building game, then you start getting notices (low on food, low on firewood). Then winter comes and people start dying. Whoever survives get sick with a disease a few years later and dies from that,

Welcome to Banished, a hard survival-styled city building game. This game is a joy, at the same time it can be a frustration. You'll smile when 3 of your people give birth to new babies, because you know that your town is short on workers. You'll grit your teeth in frustration when winter is coming but your woodcutters are not cutting enough wood to add to the firewood supply which the people need to keep warm. Then you'll cry when people start dying of starvation because your town just ran out of food in the middle of winter.

This game will take you through the gambit of emotions: anger, fear, frustration, happiness, joy, sadness,, elation, etc. You'll actually get a high off of this wild ride of emotions, and it will keep you coming back for more, wanting to see if your people can make it through the next winter, or to see if you will have anything to sell to the trader if and when he arrives; etc.

The survival style gameplay in this game is what creates the year-to-year drama, and it is that drama that keeps you hooked. All that drama in a typical city building game programmed by one person (that right, one person).

This game is quite a feat and so lovely to play.

I do have some quirks with the user interface. You have to spend sometime when you start up your world to get all the important parts of the user interface up in the places that are good for you, like the town stats, the minimap, the events log, and the jobs window.

Still the game doesn't make it easy to gain all the info that you need to run your town. The town stats window will show you some of the resources you have stored (what it thinks as the most important ones) but it won't show you everything. For example, to see how much firewood you have stored up (firewood is important, right) you'll need to click on the stockpile. It also lacks a people list window showing you their age, job, and so on. There is no easy way to tell when children are going to become workers, for example.

Despite those problems there are ways to work around them, and although they can be frustrating at times, it does not detract from you're enjoyment of the game, it just makes the learning curve a little steeper, especially trying to learn all the intricacies that are involved in ensuring your people survive in the long run.

Overall this is an excellent game, and a must have for anyone that enjoys city building. Just know.... You have been warned!!! There will be hardship and death in this game.

At first glance, Child of Light looks like a children's nursry story with 2d platforming elements. However if you dig down a little bit further you find a story with a very dark tone to it, and a very rich battle system that will keep you engaged for hours. In fact, the battle system is the best part of the game.

I recorded on a video reviewing the games battle system in-depth: http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=369025252

It is very reminiscent of the battle system from the Grandia games. That battle system was my favorite of all jrpg's from the playstation 2 era. This game takes a unique twist on that system, and adds complexity through Oculi system.

The story itself is interesting, but the constant rhyming can get it a little boring. There isn't much for character customization other than choosing which branch of the different skill trees your characters go down.

Strategy Tip: Pick one branch of the skill tree for each character until you unlock all the major skills on that branch.

Oh and don't think you'll find your normal inns and shops in the locals you encournter along the way. There is none. All the items that you will get will either be from chests or enemy drops.

Nonetheless, it is the battle system that uplifts this game to a much higher rating than there would be without it.
Graphics: Good 7.0
Music: Mediocre 6.0
Story (plot): Good 7.5
Story (writing): Mediocre 6.0
Gameplay (customization) Good 7.0
Gameplay (Battle) Superb 9.0
Overall: Great 8.0

So if you are a fan of Japanese Roleplaying games, and want to try a new game with a interesting story and a wonderful, captivating and engaging battle system, I absolutely recommend that you get this game.

WARNING!!! This game is addictive.

You don't know how many times I left the house late or wasted hours of my day with this game. It does have a learning curve, but because I watch Youtube videso frequently, this was not a problem. So, it is so easy to jump right in and get started, but so hard to stop. The problem is that everything in the game takes time, and so while you are waiting for your dwarves to finish that last defensive wall that you've been working on as you prepare for the next horde to appear; or as you dig deeper with your dwarves trying to find enough iron and coal to make those new workstations that just got unlocked, all the while in the real world hours are just drifitng by at a steady pace.

With that said, this is an excellent game. It goes with out saying that addictive games are some of the most enjoyable games. It has great 2d graphics, great music that changes depending on the situation, and the crafting tree and tasks are well done. The game now has a tutorial that will walk you through the basic. Even if you don't push torwards completing the tasks, you will complete them anyway by moving up the crafting tree and bulding up you colony.

It does have some issues, but I am confident that the developer will fix them. The problem is that is missing quite a number of features that one coming from Dwarf Fortrress, Towns, or Gnomoria, will be used to. You can pause the game, but doing so will bring up the main menu, so it impossible to look over your colony and set new actions for your dwarves while paused.

There isn't a menu that allows you to control who does what, and there isn't an info menu that gives all info on your colony including the list of dwarves. Because to do somethings with your dwarfs you need to click on them, the lack of that list makes controlling your dwarves kind of frustrating. As I said, i do think that some or all of these things that I mentioned will be added at a later date.

Overall, it is a great game. 8.0 out 10 is the score I give it.

This game is challenging, but addictive. If you like rockets, then this is for you, but beware. You will crash and burn, again and again, but even so you'll still be coming back for more because the thrill of this game is building your rocket and then seeing if it will fly. Once you get into it, everytime your rocket blows itself apart you'll be heading back to the Vehicle Assembly building to try to determine what went wrong, and how in the world you will lift this heavy thing into orbit.

Some knowledge rocket science helps, even some knowledge of aerodynamics can help, but I started the game not knowing much of either, and I still had fun. Again, if you are into rockets and spaceships, this is a must buy.

Do get it while it's still in Alpha, because once it goes into beta and beyond, it's price will skyrocket.

Note: This game is fully moddable, and there are several mods that actual help to reduce the steep learning curve. Kerbal Engineer Redux will give you all the info you need to build and fly successful rocketships. Mechjeb will help you with the complicated maneuver's, and ShipManifest will help you transfer crew and resources from one ship to another, which is useful for space stations and landings on Kerbal's two satellites, Mun and Minnus; as well as interplanetary trips to other planets.
