In general, the Monster Hunter franchise has always been something I enjoy. Now, a few years into this newest iteration I can say for sure that this is the best version of the game for me. I also think it's very welcoming to newer players. If you're new to the game, a few things to note:

-Combat is not like your typical action game. Things are slow and deliberate. Reflexes are only just as important as pattern recognition and timing in combat. And beyond that even there's a lot you can do before combat even begins to ensure your victory.
-The story, while fun, isn't that robust. This is Monster Hunter. You hunt monsters. It's truly that simple.
-Each weapon is it's own unique playing style. So if you start and it doesn't tickle your fancy then try another weapon.

Beyond that this game is pretty receptive to however you want to play it. I hope you have as much fun as I have.
