Le Panther s'est avéré efficace en terrain découvert et dans les engagements à longue portée. Le Panther avait une excellente puissance de feu, une excellente protection et une excellente mobilité, bien que les premières variantes aient souffert de problèmes de fiabilité. Le Panther était beaucoup moins cher à produire que le Tiger I.
