We Were Here is a co-op only game where you and a partner work together to solve puzzles, with one person playing the "librarian" tasked with finding the solutions to what the "explorer" describes the puzzle to be. This is a fantastic game for testing your communication skills with someone else, as a lot of the puzzles take some time to explain and then find the right answer to.

We Were Here tells the story of two explorers (you and your partner) who get separated from their group and stumble across an abandoned mansion. Seeking shelter the two of them enter and get locked in, seprated from each other and struggling through the mansion to find a way out. There are different hints through the mansion as to what happened there and why it's abandoned in the frozen wilderness, but the story within the story is for you to theorize as nothing is ever explicitly stated, just glossed over through the different puzzles and items in the library.

This game doesn't hold your hand at all, it is up to you and your partner to find your way out. Each of you are dropped into separate rooms with only your microphones available. Due to the nature of this game, each of you should be at your own computers separate from each other while playing, or play online from different places. The explorer has to solve the puzzles correctly based on the answers the librarian provides, without getting the either of you killed in the process by selecting a wrong answer. The puzzles aren't too difficult once the solutions have been found, and with a little communication and problem solving the game is easy to complete.

For a free co-op game We Were Here has a lot to offer, with the opportunity for two different complete playthroughs from both puzzle solving roles. If you want a quick co-op game to play with a friend this is perfect. It's casual while giving a sense of urgency, and makes for a great way to improve you and your friend's communication skills. I highly recommend We Were Here and the sequels for anyone who wants a simple co-op puzzle game that doesn't require being in the same room on the same screen.
