I love Ion Fury.

As someone who played too much Duke Nukem growing up, this game takes me back. It has a deep respect for what went before but uses that self awareness to mock some of it's embarrassingly misogynistic inspirations.

Shelly is bad ass, from start to finish, with a great sense of humour and solid voice acting. Her weapons are excellent too, with a wide range of tools to smash through the varied and challenging enemies. The level design is also very strong, going from cityscapes to underground strongholds, brimming with goons and secret areas.

Despite the bosses being fairly good, it was disappointing to see some repeated and a real lack of a proper final opponent in your nemesis Heskel, was a let down for me.

Overall though, Ion Fury is a gem. It's a throw back to the era that started my love of PC shooters and an important release in a seemingly reborn genre of classic style shooters. Hail to the Queen, baby!
