Insurgency Sandstorm is the Dark Souls of FPS games that should tell you everything you need to know.
Here are some details I really liked about it:

+ You are already dead
There's nothing like clearing an objective in Insurgency Sandstorm. You don't know where the enemies are, you only know that they are there and a single shot can kill you or them. Lo and behold as a flurry of grenades, molotovs and automatic gunfire takes out your entire squad or theirs. There's no "oof I think I'm hurt I've gotta go back to the front". You are already dead. There's also no coming back from a grenade. Your teammates will find your limbs scattered across the room (literally). This game is brutal.

+ No ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
This game doesn't ♥♥♥♥ around with features it doesn't need. You won't find any perks or damage multipliers. You can customize your guns to add scopes, supressors and whatnot. At the cost of carrying sidearms, explosives and armor. They really went the extra mile to balance the classes and weapons.

+ Real teamwork
If you want to call in a chopper for support or a smoke artillery strike you need both the commander and the observer. It is up to the team to keep them alive so they can be of use. Have your commander killed and it will cost you. Likewise you can take out the enemy commanders and observers to deny them their arty.

+ Original weapons
Drone strikes, A-10 strikes, Molotovs and even IED's. Insurgency Sandstorm has unique equipment not found in most other FPS games. All these unique weapons feel well balanced and really add something to the experience.

+ The Sound
Remember when people praised the action movie "Heat" for the sound design? This is the heat of video games. Every gun sound is basically perfect. If you turn up the volume your neighbours will think there's a war going on next door. It's that good.

- Needs more maps
The game isn't perfect yet. It could use more maps especially remakes from the previous INS game. The developer has said that those are coming but in the meantime there's only 6 (although very good) maps to play.

Insurgency was made by the same dev and was quite hardcore but you still had your modern sniper rifles, nightvision and other gadgets that made it easier to survive. In Day of Infamy there's no fancy technology and nothing that can save you from devastating artillery or deadly MG's as you storm the D-Day beaches (Dog Red) or sneak through the Reichswald to defend your homeland.

The graphics are a bit dated, there's no denying that but the game offers a variety of locales and environments that have been made really wel from both an artistic and more importantly atmospheric point of view. Like with Insurgency the team as put a lot of effort in gun models and props as well to create a convincing WWII setting. The sound design is also very convincing. You won't find pea-shooters here but not overly loud Rambo MG's either. Although the explosions might be deafening ;)

Some things things are too early to judge at this stage, such as team/gun balance and replay value but overall this is a title anyone who's craving a WWII shooter should definitely pick-up. It might not be your AAA+ Battlefield 1 experience but it offers a lot of fun, strategy, quality and attention to detail that is seldom seen in other modern WWII FPS-games.
