A bunch of quite interesting game design ideas buried under an at best "eh" gaming experience. Far better than what I initially expected though considering what can be read about it online. Don't get me wrong, the jank is real with this one. For starters you have to apply a community patch to the game right after installing it, because the unchanged retail version overclocks your GPU and crashes your game when you try accessing the graphics options, but the occasional jankiness aside, I had considerable fun with this title. It's worst aspect is probably the fact that due to it trying to be everything all at once, nothing in it is too polished, everything is noticeably janky and underdeveloped. Starting as a survival-horror with Uncharted-esque bombastic scripted action sequences, but also ridiculously overthought crafting mechanics with tight inventory-management, then continuing into an RDR2-esque open-world collectathon experience with semi-immersive world interaction elements (you can swap between third person and first person on the go) sprinked with third person hack n slash functionalities. And of course a B-movie script to top it all off, because I'm the copulating universe. Sounds chaotic, innit? That's because it fokkin' is. But it's the good (best) kind of chaotic jank, imho.
If you ask me I'll always prefer overly ambitious games swiftly crumbling under their own sheer weight compared to titles that were either created by developers carrying a bloated ego, not actually bothering to listen to the feedback of playtesters or design consultants and/or games developed with apathy (looking at you Postal 3, now THAT'S a bad game, if you think THIS game is bad, go and play that one, you've been warned).

For some reason the soundtrack is amazing. Someone within Atari must have suspected this as well, as the game's original releases were often bundled with different versions of the physical soundtrack. I think I'll try getting it myself, it has no right to be this good.

Do try it if you're curious, just don't forget the patch before starting your game. ;)
