One time while playing this game, I was minding my own business just doing some bug killing. I hear the shouts of one of my friends - a fellow helldiver - who’s being set upon by stalkers.

Lo and behold, I look over at a ridge to my right and I see the flash of his muzzle as he’s backing away from a group of stalkers who are just waiting for an opening.

He guns one down, two, but then runs out of ammo. As I’m lining up a shot on the last one, it jumps for the killing blow on my wounded friend.

I pull the trigger.

In an explosion of guts and firepower, the stalker dies mid-leap.

The land is quiet, and my barrel smokes. My fellow helldiver has been saved.

It is cinematic moments like these that are the true magic trick of this game for me. I’ve played many FPS games, especially in the sci fi genre, but I’ve never played one that so consistently makes me and my friends feel like action heroes. The world is constantly evolving and responding to everything you do, and the set pieces are absolutely breathtaking. This is a game that I will come back to for many, many years.

And I didn’t even mention the rich upgrade systems, tight as hell mechanics, and fascinating world lore that continues to unfold on a daily basis. This game feels truly alive in a way I’ve never experienced before.

It is the best online co-op game I have ever played.
