This is where I would like to be able to have a neutral rating. Bioshock 2 is not a bad game by any means. However, would I, someone who has finished the story, recommend this to my friends as something they should spend their hard earned money on? No. If it were a standalone game, it might be seen in a more positive light. However, when related to the first Bioshock and Infinite, this game comes up horribly short. In it's time, it may have been an adequate snack while waiting for Infinite to release, but buying it now simply isn't worth it.

Pros:
+ Drill dashing enemies is extremely satisfying.
+ Dual-wield plasmids with guns.
+ Nice little insights to the Bioshock franchise, but not really necessary. Think of it as talking to that one random NPC in the inn that gives just a little extra story. If you missed him, it doesn't really matter. Same thing here.
+ Hacking system is a lot better than the first one.

Cons:
- The story overall was very forgettable. I literally just beat it and I can hardly tell you their names. I beat the first Bioshock several years ago and can still tell you all of the names from it.
- Lots of ammo and guns to choose from. Usually this is good, except most of them are completely worthless. You can use upgrades to make the guns somewhat useful. I never felt like experimenting with all of the combinations because it was such a hassle to be able to do damage.
- The camera gimmick is still not good. It's necessary to make the game significantly easier, but it feels like work to have to keep pulling it out to research before killing something.
- Dying or wasting ammo/money didn't matter. I played on casual and would simply have an abundance of money. I could and did play like a braindead idiot and still beat it. In the first Bioshock I had to make sure I had the resources to kill a big daddy. If not, they were carefully avoided until I could fight them later. That was excellent. In this, just run and gun and win. Meh.
- There's just a lot of things trying to kill you the entire time. It was very easy for some stray enemy across the room to just start lighting you up. More annoying than anything.
- The creepy feel is entirely gone. Other big daddy's were not scary in the least. Rapture did not have that same insane charm.
- At some point halfway through, I lost access to all of my guns. I don't know if this was intentional but I'm pretty sure it was a glitch. ( I continued to find ammo and gun upgrade stations, but.. no guns, restarting the game did not fix it, and it wasn't worth starting the game over) I still had plasmids and my drill. Mostly what I used anyway, so not a huge issue for me, but this could obviously be a big problem for someone else who still wants to experiment weapon combinations for whatever reason.
- Harvesting ADAM was a chore. Nice idea that was poorly executed and rarely worth it. I stopped bothering with it entirely.

Overall: This game wasn't a waste of time. But, I will never touch it again, or recommend it to anyone else. It was $5 when I bought it so I feel like I got what I paid for. Very disappointing in comparison to Bioshock 2's counterparts but if you try to ignore they exist, the game is decent.
