Just a friggin' great game for mindless fun and over-the-top antics.

Not without its flaws, but very on-par with the experience you get from The Witcher 3. Souls players will feel familiar while still bringing a new experience. I feel like Elden Ring is a good introduction to Fromsoft, and if you haven't already played the Dark Souls trilogy, then what you've learned in Elden Ring will help you if you decide to play those games. I was entirely captivated by the world of Elden Ring from the beginning, and after 4 playthroughs, I'm still finding things I'd never seen before. Absolutely one of the best games I've ever played. Can't believe it only cost $80. There's so much content and all of it is MEANINGFUL.

Much care and thought was put into this game. The mechanics of crafting and building don't feel like they were arbitrarily shoehorned in; rather, once you have the materials and tools, it makes perfect sense why you're able to do what you're doing. The game gives you just enough guidance to get you started, and then sets you free to explore and learn things for yourself. A truly exploratory experience with elements taken from Minecraft and Rust, it encourages you to be creative and discover things on your own terms.

Oh, and Norse mythology. Vikings. Need I say more?

Short game (5hrs for my first playthrough), but very fun to play. The progression and abilities system was really cool: rather than just stacking your abilities as you continue, you are forced to revert back to previous "ranks" in order to solve puzzles, making you more vulnerable or strong, since your abilities change based on your health. Got some serious "The Thing" vibes, which was great since it's one of my favourite movies.

You will get lost. There's a lot of backtracking if you want to 100%, and no map whatsoever. 2nd playthrough went a lot quicker since I had the general layout somewhat memorized.

Overall, I loved it, and I might buy it for the Xbox so I can watch my friends play it. Would love to see a sequel or DLC.

It's a "Ubisoft formula" game, what can I say. That being said, if you like that formula, it's good. I quite enjoyed it. There's enough stuff to do to keep you busy, and I thought the world was fun to explore. The story is meh, but the gameplay loop is enjoyable. Weapons are rather bog-standard. Late game, you'll have a loadout that you prefer and you won't really deviate from it. Once you beat the main story, the action calms down a LOT. I'd like it if they added an endgame option to keep the enemy population as high as it is during the storyline.

The audio is a bit buggy as of 12/9/19 - hopefully this gets patched soon. Reach feels amazing to play on PC, and it's great to jump back into the old multiplayer that I spent hundreds of hours playing in 2010-2014.

If you are the type of gamer that needs a compelling story, or some omniscient presence constantly giving you tasks to perform so that you don't get bored, this is not the game for you. If you are looking for challenging gameplay or puzzles that force your brain into overdrive, don't bother.

If you enjoy exploring, setting your own personal goals to accomplish, and calm, leisurely gameplay, you might like this. If you are a hiker, animal-spotter, stargazer - but find yourself indoors on a rainy day - you'll probably love this game.

I wasn't on the hype train for this game. I certainly knew about it, and some of the ambition it was hoping to achieve; but I only saw maybe 2 trailers. I waited for a friend of mine to try it out before picking it up. I have no comment to make on what the developers promised and didn't live up to. I bought a game that I enjoy purely for the serene wandering aspect of it and I'm not let down. This is the perfect remedy for a stressful day at work. I feel like they shipped a game that I got my money's worth out of.

I normally play way more frantic action games, cranked up to the highest difficulty, drooling for the challenge. Somehow No Man's Sky won me over with the exact opposite setting. I experience no frustration over having to respawn constantly, or scavange for ammo, or grind for XP and better gear. I can happily chill out with a beer next to me and take in the beautiful scenery of each planet I visit while soaking up the wavy music and just step out of reality for a time.

I won't say the game is perfect, but it certainly has suited a niche in gameplay that I haven't experienced before.

Before casting judgment on No Man's Sky or Hello Games, ask yourself: what is entertainment to you? Is it the publicity surrounding a game's development? Or is it the game itself?
