Valheim is the journey of a viking who sails boats, crafts weapons, collects resourses and builds as he/she moves from the Meadows, through the Black Forest to the Swamp, Mountain and on to the Plains, building ever more complex bases and powering up to defeat bosses. Its a ton of fun if you like survival/ crafting/ base building games.

Heres a guide to help you:

There's also this addon game at the end called "Mistlands and Ashlands" which is terrible and I have no interest in. So just stop before that. It's still a great game.

The train valley series is one of the best casual transport management games ever created.
Strips back all the nonsense of transport strategy games leaving only the fun.

I'm an explorer/ builder open world player, and I like a bit of complexity. This game is awesome. It has the mind-bending numerical problems of building and running a factory, and some crazy crafting trees. For the other half of your brain it has open world building and exploring, with some beautiful places you can jump and whizz around.

The hypertubes are great fun, and it's also a full railroad sim. The transport building tools and animations are sublime and it all means something because its also a full logistics strategy game as well. The environment is unbelievably beautiful. Although the map is crafted by hand and finite, its very deep and much of the map is very tall with multiple layers. There are several biomes, and the detail is excellent - often the beauty is breathtaking.
⚪ 800 hour review = Now running a 6 loop network of 60 trains, exploring the desert canyons now, not making factories so much, just building infrastructure mostly and loving it.
⚪ 700 hour review = Obviously I like this game! I now have a 4-loop train sim and am at tier 8 which is nuclear. My map is covered with factories of course but also civil eng megaprojects. Im _still_ exploring the map .. it has at least 1000h of exploring in it I'd say. Main weaknesses? Progression is a bit lumpy, animals have 2 settings (psycho and passive) and build parts are a bit limited and could use more beauty. Its really fun though and there are so many ways to play.
⚪ 450 hour review = I'm on Phase 7 of 8 and it REALLY steps up the progression. Need huge factories.
⚪ 400 hour review = Great Civil Engineering Sim. Huge scale buiding with no limits rocks!
⚪ 350 hour review = Rebuilt all my buildings as flashy blueprinted modular builds - tools are awesome.
⚪ 300 hour review = Widened my exploration and wow I never get tired of ithis map. Beautiful
⚪ 250 hour review = Wow these transport networks take some building. Still only explored half the map.
⚪ 200 hour review = The train system is fantastic, and I'm really into designing industrial buildings now.
⚪ 150 hour review = This is basically an open world engineering megaproject sim for me. Love it.
⚪ 100 hour review = Things getting serious. Factory spaghetti. Flow rate maths. Lets go big!
⚪ 80 hour review = HYPERTUBES RULE!! seriously, this is so much fun!
⚪ 50 hour review = Just made it to the far end of the map and wow, just wow. The love and care that's gone into this game is amazing. Fed up of walking tho, cant wait til I unlock trains (and I really need a spaceship!).
⚪ 20 hour review = Loving the building mechanics and exploring - this place is BEAUTIFUL!
⚪ 5 hour review = "Advanced settings- turn off psycho-pigs" then it's a great great game.
⚪ First hour review = The start is a terrible pig-death loop overlain with a tutorial that doesn't tell you how to avoid constant pig-death. Gave up on the game, tried again later.

Nov 2022 update: I have 1500 hours in this game and every time I play it I still find something new. The core game itself is a masterpiece. HG have added so much that its unrecognisably better than 2016, but it's a slightly tatty masterpiece - expansion and quality are different mindsets, I wish they'd just increase the quality of what's there because the game needs to reach a 'mature' phase now. Its still great though, just a bit 'quirlky' in places.

If you dont mind a quirk or two, it's the best game in the universe. The most fun activity in the game is exploring new planets and building on them. No other game lets you build 'in the environment' like this one. If you like a game which let's you write your own destiny a bit, where you can explore through huge diversity, you'll love this. Of course some people just follow the script but they don't ever see a fraction of what's in the game. Expect to need the community to help you too.

- PLOT = The main plotline is kind of like asimov meets hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. Philosophical and hilariously silly in equal measure. You're unravelling what's happened to the universe and simultanously discovering the things you need to chart your way across the universe. There's a lot of depth to it.

- COMBAT is basic. This is not a combat game, but there's enough to add a bit of tension. You can fight pirates, alien creatures and drones (but dont buy it for that)

- BUILDING - You can build on volcanoes, underwater cities, space freighters, sky bases, in caves. The building is amazing.

- VEHICLES - You can pilot your robot, bike, racing car, bigfoot truck thing, hovercraft, submarine, and even flying beetles, butterflies, dinosaurs. The list goes on. Oh and spaceships. Lots of spaceships.

- MINING - You mine resources and plants to craft and build things, at the most basic level. You can deep-mine, with industrial-scale extraction, refine and do advanced crafting.

- TRADE - You can trade resources from one system to another for profit.

- MULTIPLAYER - There's limited multiplayer, either with existing friends (co-op) or at the nexus (in game player hub) .. its a bit clunky as it was added afterwards but still fun, within limits.

IMO this is the best game of all time .. so far.

neither YES nor NO .. obviously a work in progress but not sure i would buy a completed version.
- needs an easy recovery option, too easy to get stuck in a ditch and have to reset everything.
- why is the traction so bad? why no chains?
- world is tiny and one locale. City etc would make it intersting but currently its boring tbh.
- Im not sure what the point is. will it have timed missions or something?
- nice snow physics, barrel physics etc. Tracks look awesome, sounds good too.
- SNOW BLOWER PLEASE! :)
Summary ... interesting sim/ physics, now it just needs a GAME designing around it.
Or if its an open world sandbox, it needs an open world :)
