if you play as Syria your AA will lose communication with their EMCOM settings set to "free fire" and shoot your planes down as they take off from your 2 airbases, even though they have line of sight and are within 3 km of the base. Very cool and realistic feature that you cannot change if you unpause the game at the start of the scenario.
