This is the best version of this type of game ever made to date. It captures the feeling of adventure and discovery you encountered back with the N64 Zelda games, or like the first time you played Skyrim, only with WAY better combat.

Enough said, this game is the GOAT of Open World Action RPGs.

Early Access Review
I was super stoked to play a coop Blade & Sorcery, but this experience was WAY too buggy and I'll probably never come back to it.

Main issues I ran into during coop:
- Not being able to holster weapons
- Not being able to use the bow at all, and not being able to use any weapons afterwards if I attempted to use the bow
- Equipping weapons from my inventory causes them to freeze in place until I let go of them, after which they disappear from my session.
- General lag. Not as bad when hosting the session, but still pretty rough even on a decent connection. Combat just totally falls apart and becomes mostly a spam fest instead of the parry focused system they built the melee combat around, especially when you're fighting groups of enemies.

I didn't make it more than 10 minutes each session before encountering a game breaking bug.

The game just doesn't feel as good to play as Blade & Sorcery either, so I have no reason to play this solo. Sure, there is more depth to some extent as far as the systems the game has, but the moment to moment gameplay feels much worse.

Also, why are 90% of the enemies skeletons?

The most fun I had was clashing swords with my friend, but that was fun for all of 10 seconds since you can't actually duel.

Just finished the game.
Oh my god.
I've never been more excited for the future of VR.

This was by far the most immersive gaming experience I've had.
Boneworks came close with its sense of physicality and fantastic weapon mechanics, but Half-Life: Alyx has set a new standard with its atmosphere, level design, and world building.

The set pieces were fantastic, the characters were great, and shooting was rock solid. Also, the gun upgrades - collecting the raw materials made me feel like a kid on Easter, and spending them to dramatically improve my guns was oh so satisfying.

As for performance, I ran this on my Razer Blade 15 with a RTX 2070 Max-Q and was able to get fairly smooth performance on Medium settings throughout most of the game. The optimization here is great, even on Low the game looks and feels fantastic.

My score:
9/10

Why not a 10?
A handful of odd design choices, with my biggest gripe being movement.

There is no run or jump action that can be performed, and your movement speed is bit too slow for my taste. The only way to 'move faster' or 'jump' is by teleporting, and in a lot of areas you will need to use it to move forward. I feel like teleporting detracts from a game's immersion, and it makes any sort of platforming completely pointless. Granted these aren't easy problems to solve for in VR, and even Boneworks received a decent number of complaints about it's platforming sections.

Regardless, buy this game.
You won't regret it.

This was my first Final Fantasy experience - and unfortunately, it's been a very disappointing introduction to the series. It's especially disappointing since it's such a gorgeous game, and the soundtrack is honestly pretty decent.

The game is just so slow, the story is pretty bland and uninteresting, and the characters aren't much better. Not to mention you spend the majority of your game time doing things that just aren't fun. The side quests, from my experience, were either fetch quests or monster bounties - sometimes both at the same time. And man they just weren't at all interesting or satisfying to complete. Character interactions feel extremely robotic as well which didn't help one bit.

And perhaps my biggest gripe is the MASSIVE open world this game has. There are some genuinely cool creature designs and landmarks, but beyond that there really isn't anything worthwhile to do. Riding the Chocobos was exhilarating for all of 10 seconds, and the combat is fairly decent (though super easy to cheese through), but man that's really about it :/

My first impressions of this game weren't great, but I'm glad I gave it a second chance! This game doesn't really excel in any area, but the overall package is pretty great. Here's the rundown:

Combat:
Basically a slightly clunkier Dark Souls / Sekiro with lightsabers and force powers. The game slowly introduces new abilities / ways to play as you progress, and paces itself well.

Exploration / Puzzles / Platforming:
Well integrated with the way the force is used in this game, but isn't all that fun in my opinion. I'm honestly not sure how the devs would address this though. Platforming really hasn't changed much in the last 20 years.

Level Design:
This is pretty great. Amazing set pieces and Metroidvania style exploration. Space travel is basically nonexistent, you'll just be jumping between planets and using your ship as a hub, but this is really a non-issue for the style of game.

Story:
Nothing to write home about, but fits nicely within the canon and is actually pretty decent.

I honestly wouldn't have regretted buying this at full price, and at 50% off this was well worth it! If you love Star Wars, this is an instant buy.

This game is a must play.

It's immersive, beautiful, and has excellent storytelling.
The open world almost never feels stale or boring & there are endless possibilities for a unique and memorable adventure.

So, instead of buying Skyrim for the 3rd or 4th time, do yourself a favor and play this genuine masterpiece.

If you're a fan of first person shooters, heavy metal, gore, and/or fast paced, high octane action - BUY THIS GAME.
It's INSANELY fun and easily one of the best games of 2016!

Reasons to buy:
  • Most refreshing FPS experience I've had in years
  • Amazing soundtrack
  • Fast and fluid gameplay
  • Intuitive controls
  • Awesome world, enemy, sound, visual, and level design
  • Map creator with an active, creative community to enhance replayability (a mode not available on the Nintendo Switch Version)
  • Fast paced, quake style multiplayer with unique gameplay mechanics

Overall Rating:
9/10

Only reason it didn't score a 10 is because of the semi repetitive glory kills mechanic, a strange feel to the multiplayer (kinda hard to explain, more just personal preference), and a lackluster/predictable story (not like you play DOOM for the story anyways lol)

This is absolutely a great game, and arguably the most well-rounded souls game. However, this is the souls game I've put the least amount of playtime into, even less so than DS2.

If I had to say the reason for this, I think it's the atmosphere, and the fact that the souls series hasn't really pushed boundaries or innovated in a way that evolves the genre or the games themselves much at all.

Don't worry though, the combat is rock solid and feels the best it has in any souls game in my opinion.

Simply put, DS3 is a refinement of all the mechanics present in previous souls games. The themes have stagnated a bit since it's conception as a franchise though, and this game doesn't really add anything significant to its repertoire.

Again, it's a great game with great combat and awesome boss fights, but I came out feeling slightly unsatisfied with it.
While I partially blame the pre-release hype (which I feel happens a lot these days) there were way too many callbacks and references for no other reason than to just appeal to fans (and dare I say to just add more content without having to design more from scratch). This level of self-awareness and the endlessly repeated themes just gets sort of tiresome and can take you out of an otherwise excellent experience.

Also - weapon arts:
While certainly cool, they often are the only thing that will differentiate a weapon from another within the same class. And even then, one weapon art will often be shared across multiple other weapons, sometimes that are in different classes. It's frustratingly counter intuitive because weapon arts should help each weapon feel unique, but what ends up happening is more or less the opposite.

I obviously still recommend that you play this game, especially if you're a fan of the series. It really is great, I'm just showing some tough love as a fan myself. Just don't expect it to be the sendoff you were hoping the series would receive.

This is a fun game.
An extremely fun game.
And best of all, it's the kind of game that you can keep coming back to.

  • Controls are tight and responsive
  • Gameplay is fast paced and exciting
  • Regardless of skill level, anyone can have fun with it
  • Despite being a somewhat simplistic game, the depth that can be reached at higher levels of play is astounding
  • There are a vast number of customization options to help keep things fresh and personalized
  • The devs are constantly pushing out updates and adding more value to the game at no extra cost (minus dlc packs)
  • Playing with friends is easy and fun

This game is absolutely worth the asking price.

I do wish crates dropped more frequently though and that keys were less expensive - having all the good customizations locked behind both rng and a pay wall really sucks.

As a piece of art, I absolutely love Cuphead. Everything is polished to hell and it's just so damn charming.
But as a game, it's just not for me.

The controls don't feel as tight as they should for a game this difficult, and the gameplay just doesn't feel fun or rewarding. After I beat a boss, I don't get this sense of accomplishment that I'd get with a Dark Souls game. I'd instead equate the feeling to relief that I'll never have to do that again, followed by an immediate sense of dread that the next challenge with probably be even more frustrating.

I'm honestly not a big fan of arcade style run-and-gun games so I admittedly have some bias there, but this is probably one of the least enjoyable I've experienced within the genre.
