The only thing that can fix this game now is a time machine. I'll play it until something better comes along, but it's on a downward spiral with every update. I'm glad I only bought it on discount and never paid for anything else.

Also it's clear they covet the players that choose to pay for cheats and buy their overpriced slop. There are blatant cheaters that I have encountered in 2021 that still play in 2024. Crytek is almost as bad as Ubisoft.

Early Access Review
The core concept is great, but it seems to be going off the rails and the developers have passed the point of no return.

Many of the ideas seem ambitious, but ultimately the game doesn't pay the player a high enough return on their grind. If you're a solo player or play with a small group you will have a bad time with Rust. You will waste hundreds or thousands of hours only to end up repeatedly being a resource for larger groups to conquer and pilfer.

Modded servers can be fun, if they're unique enough, but most of them are just watered down clones with no identity of their own. Finding a populated server with a recurring community and admins that enforce their rules and don't play favorites or abuse their powers is a challenge.

I found this game the most fun at its earliest stages of surviving and building up a moderately sized home to defend. Once your home is built and you start thinking of raiding other people it just gets dull fast. You might enjoy that to no end if you're easily amused or of low intelligence.

I found it got boring too quickly and it would have been more interesting as a low-tech game without ballistic weapons, save for primitive weapons like bows or slingshots. Crafting guns just makes it too easy to kill other players and diminishes the value they would otherwise have if you had to find them by chance.

This game simply doesn't run very well on any kind of hardware and the shooting mechanics just feel terrible. If I want to play a shooter I'll play something AAA. Shooting guns isn't what drew me to Rust and it did nothing to keep me there.

The Rust community itself is highly toxic too, as most game communities are. It seems to be made up mostly of kids who shouldn't be playing Rust at all, and man-children who take it so seriously that you'd think their actual lives depended on it. Maybe they do.

Maybe another company will come along and take the core concept somewhere better, but I'm not counting on it.
