This game is hella fun if you enjoy souls gameplay and bosses as well as souls co-op. If you play Elden Ring or Dark Souls for story and setting don’t get this game. If you appreciate souls gameplay most and have buddies to play with, get this game.

Yo, we finally get a live-service style PvP mecha game and the FREE beta has Mostly Negative reviews? Mech enjoyers have been waiting for something like this for years. It's not a perfect game by any means but the potential is absolutely there. I'm sure as I play the game I will find things I dislike, but just for the sheer fact that this game exists, I will positively rate it. I want this game to succeed.

Hawken Reborn is trying to be borderlands.

I came into this game literally wanting to give it a positive review. I figured the mostly negative review was just salty ex-hawken players pining for their old game back (me.) I wanted to judge this game based own merit and not the legacy of Hawken that it's trying to ride.

Pros:
- Mech game

- Mechs feel pretty good with a faster paced combat and movement. Almost a more true-to-form battletech compared to mechwarrior.

- I don't hate the idea of a lootershooter mech game.

Cons:

- Simply boring very quickly. One single mode to play: Patrol.

- Patrol is an open world (boring) map full of open world (boring) objectives such as "blow this thing up" or "press f on this console" Riveting stuff. You go in and as time progresses the "threat" (baseline damage and hp of enemies) increases. Collect materials to upgrade/create stronger maps so you can last longer in patrol missions so you can collect more materials. That's the loop. It honestly cannot get more basic.

- Enemy AI and combat is just uninteresting and reminiscent of a 2004 arcade game. Enemy mechs are basically big bullet sponges, You won't really miss them. The impact of your weapons barely exists. Honestly I'm so tired of watching numbers fly out of enemies especially in a singleplayer game. It's such a cheap way giving players a dopamine hit (wow look how big my number is). When I shoot a rocket into a mechs arm, I want to see that damage. It should reel from the hit unless it's a heavier mech. Instead I just get numbers and the enemy mech looks vaguely more damaged as you hit it.

- AI literally does not put up a threat. It can't hit you if you hold A or D, it doesn't try to dodge / maneuver. And as a fundamental design flaw.

- No part-based damage is lame for a singleplayer mech game. I don't need mechwarrior level detail, but something similar would be nice. It would at least add another layer of combat to think about whether I should try legging a fast mech, or go for the arms of a scarier looking mech. I dunno. As of right now I just shoot my weapons with no care of what I'm hitting, no worry about overheating. Just throwing my number guns at the bullet sponges.

- UI and HUD are kinda bad. It literally feels like borderlands. It's clean, boring, and generic. If any of you haven't played old Hawken google some gameplay images and take one look at the UI there. It's integrated so nicely into the cockpit of your mech, and even things that aren't are designed so nicely that it just feels like a holoprojector or something.

And that's essentially it. Yeah I only played an hour of this game, but I essentially saw everything there is to offer sadly. Give the game a try if you want and see for yourself. It's free but I still can't recommend it. It just isn't fun and there are other more entertaining singleplayer mech games. You can feel the lack of passion for this game. It's pretty sad, I hope it can make a comeback and will be following the game closely. But sadly in the modern dev cycle I highly doubt this games servers will still be up next year (which is pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ considering it's a singleplayer game.) I happily want to be proven wrong. We need more quality Mech games.

Great game for free, I have a lot of fun with it. It's dark and darker, but a good bit more casual with (IMO) better combat.

Auction pass is lame, but considering all the rest of the game is f2p, it's fine. You can get by just fine without selling on the auction house.

Huge fan of necromancer games, sadly not a huge fan of this one. I was sadly bored enough that I couldn't push through and unlock more abilities. By the second run, I was done. This review is just a first impression, sure, but I just could not force myself to play through it anymore. There is nothing here that wows or hooks me. Even Unliving (considered to be a mediocre necromancer game) did enough interesting and cool stuff that I couldn't help but stick around for several hours.

Sound:
+ Really nice choir soundtrack

+- Minion sound fx are cool, but play too often and sound kind of low quality, or flat. Gets annoying eventually

- Not a perfect loop (nitpicky but still)

- Terrible 3-hit combo sound fx. It's the same scraping sound over, and over, and over, and over.

Art & Animations:
- Run animation is sloppy and doesn't feel like it matches the run speed properly (and generally feels off) look at RoR2 for an example of stellar run animation which feels good and scales with fast speeds.

- Attack animations are alright, but something definitely feels missing here. Swinging the scythe and casting spells feels very "eh." A power fantasy is not well delivered here, and hits do not feel impactful. Spell animations are okay.

- Art and visual fx are very eh. Really just sits in the camp of mediocre. It fits right at home with the trend of third person action RPG's having poor and commonly used visuals. (crowfall comes to mind.) That said, RoR2 has a similar art style but does it exceptionally well. I can't pinpoint exactly why, but it just feels more cohesive and interesting to look at. I think the stellar animation quality is a huge reason why.

+- Minions are kind cool but get repetitive and uninteresting to look at super fast. Their animations aren't great either.

Gameplay:

I won't do a list here because it honestly just feels like everything needs work. Attacking as a necromancer gets unbelievably boring. Just hitting things and doing a janky dodge then using spells off cooldown. It's not fun, but hey, that's alright as long as necromancy is fun right? That is the main draw afterall?

Sadly not, Necromancy falls under the same trap as so many other games. Resurrect minions without a thought or care in the world for what they do or how to use them best. Just chuck them at the enemy then get swinging. Both the necromancy and the melee/spellcasting are underwhelming here.

Roguelite elements are cool here, but most upgrades ultimately devolve into stat-boosts except for the pinnacle upgrades, which are just very simple alterations to your skills ultimately. I just couldn't find myself caring about the upgrades I picked. It kind of reminds me of V=Rising in a way? But definitely less fun to use ability-wise.

TLDR:
Game needs serious work. Idea is good but nothing is quite hitting the mark. Not much good to say here but will leave a positive review for the sake of an indie dev trying to put something good out, but I can't say this is worth the money in it's current state.

Gave it a solid amount of time before writing my review, unlocked every character, got a lot of the unlocks.

I'm a big fan of Survivor games, played most of the top tier ones. I gotta say, this game is loads of fun and good value for it's price. I love GSP and the price of this game is low, so it's worth the price. But otherwise, it isn't the best Survivor game to sink time into.

Pros:
- Easy survivor game to get into, super easy to understand. Simple
- DRG skin, fun and thematically exciting
- Objectives and digging are cool, changes things up a bit but not too much
- Getting OP is very fun

Cons:

- Upgrades early on are just kinda boring, takes a long time to get powerful
- Needing to upgrade a weapon to 12 then end the run just to unlock overclocks for it feels a bit grindy for grind sake.
- +% upgrades are mostly the only upgrades outside of overclocks (which means if you dont have them on your weapon yet your first runs are crazy uninteresting) and there aren't enough synergies to make it fun like Halls of Torment.
- Glyphid exploders in every swarm gets boring, since early on it's just about triggering the explosion then running out of range over and over. A fun gimmick at first but every swarm gets boring.

For Honor "fans" try not to mental boom at the slightest inconvenience challenge: Impossible.
Just close out of the game and make sure uplay is off (task manager.) Suddenly you'll have the hero, wooow!

Varangian feels like a pretty good new hero. She doesn't feel frustrating to play against or as. No Hyper Armour cheese, and a pretty weak offence with very predictable mixup. In return, she is highly defensive with a aramusha-style full block and superior block light attacks. Solid character, very strong in 2 v x situations.

Excellent animations, good voice acting although way too much shouting. It's like Jorm on crack. Ideally ubi turns down the frequency of these shouts. Great fashion. Worth 10 bucks.

This is the kinda game where the long development time + early access is insanely frustrating, only because it's so damn good you can't help but want more of it.

Seriously, the animations are fluid and detailed, the enemy design is unique and artful, the cel-shaded graphics are executed beautifully, the dark fairytale aesthetic is amazingly executed, character mechanics are intuitive yet deep.

The only issue, seriously, is a lack of content. One 20ish minute mission is simply not long enough to fully enjoy the character you begin to build as you play. I find the first 10mins super fun and challenging, Then you become much more powerful nearing the final 10 mins. By the time you beat the first boss you're just like, "That's it? I'm so strong now though, I want to do more, use more of my build, see more!"

It's like if Hades only had the first zone to play through, then ended after the first harpy boss.

That said, if the only bad thing about a game is that you want more of it, I think that game is a big recommend in my eyes. Devs, please continue to take your time. It is clearly paying off in spades.
