Oh, Rockstar. Where do I even begin? You’ve done it again. You’ve taken a game that’s been running perfectly fine for years and “enhanced” it into something that feels like it was coded by an internee on meth. Enhanced? More like embarrassed. This isn’t an upgrade, it’s a middle finger to everyone who’s been loyal to this game for almost a decade.

First off, the ray tracing. Or should I say, fake tracing. This is the worst implementation of ray tracing I’ve ever seen in a game. Zero graphical difference! I’ve seen more visual upgrades from turning my monitor contrast and vibrance up by 10%. And for what? 40% performance hit and a sharpness slider? And as if MSAA wasn’t garbage enough, they said, “let’s add TAA”! TAA, my friends, is the anti-aliasing equivalent of smearing Vaseline on your screen. It’s blurry, it’s gross, and it makes me doubt my glasses.

The legendary sharpness slider. The only reason this “enhanced” version looks and feels better than the legacy version. Take that slider away, and it’s the same game. The only good graphical thing to come out of this mess is DLAA and DLSS. DLAA actually looks quite decent, and DLSS is fine. But then there’s FSR 3. The shimmering is so bad it reminds me of the time when I used to play this very game on 1024x768.

And then there’s a nonsense fps lock. Previously, the game could go up to 188 fps, but now? Locked to 120 fps. Wow. So much for an “enhanced” version. Oh, and no HDR support. Not that I care, but come on.

And just when you think it can’t get any worse and it’s time to enjoy some online gameplay, they REMOVED TEXT CHAT. That’s right, the one feature that makes online an online game. The one feature that lets you communicate with other players without having to listen to someone’s dog barking in the background or their siblings yelling at them. Now you’re stuck with voice chat, which is basically just a breeding ground for toxicity and chaos. Brilliant move, Rockstar. Truly groundbreaking. You couldn’t have done a better job this.

10 stars!

As much as I miss Shaun's sarcastic history lessons, the Discovery Tour in these new games is groundbreaking.

A worthy successor! A worthy remaster!

I would never understand the unjustifiable hate for this game. Especially ever since the remaster came into play, it's been far worse. Personally, I can't find a single logical reason, why it's so badly received by the community, except one perhaps and it has to do with the modern-day story but I won't give any spoilers.

One thing about GTA games is, no matter how repetitive the missions are, how annoying some of the characters are, or how unrealistic the whole crime world feels, the “radio” is always on top. This game certainly has some of the most underrated songs of all time. Not as good as Vice City perhaps but the 80s vibe is on par.

10/10!

Went on expecting an average at best game, got the best detective game ever instead. Defenitely worth playing, if you have got a soft spot for a little detective in you.

Absolute messy PC port!

Be ready to apply tens of fixes made by the community, as the devs might be too busy to notice any issues.

Pathetic optimization!

Wonder who're these people giving it positive reviews? Even on lowest possible settings, it doesn't run smoothly. 2 minutes in, and it will crash to the desktop. Judging by the forums, it seems I'm not only one with this problem. Either the game's system requirements are misleading or it's just badly optimized. I'm gonna not bother with the unorthodox fixes on internet to even run this game. Let's see, if the devs are smart enough to fix these bugs, which I don't think they will at least anytime soon.

What. a ride it has turned out to be, I didn’t expect that it would turn out such a pleasing and rememberable experience. It’s an insanely underrated video game capturing its very well-written story through a fairly less orthodox gameplay style. Technically, it’s a point-and-click game but this is where many might go wrong, it is way more than a traditional point-and-click. Outstanding in its story presentation, it gives you lots of choices along the way that might or might not change the course of the future.

I had very high expectations from this game as it is based on a commercially and critically successful novel written by Ken Follet, and it exceeded my expectations in all departments. The story is the most consistent and methodical I have ever seen in a video game. Sets in one of the most intriguing timelines in history--the Middle ages--the game is full of interesting dialogues, cunning plots, and the nature of the simple ordinary folk.

One of the playable characters out of three is Phillip of Gwynedd, who I would even go as far as calling the most lovable and complex yet simple protagonist ever written in a videogame. Just the presence of him, makes you adore and respect him. He is not a traditional ant-hero character but he is indeed not without flaws but that’s what made his character even better. Hell, I wouldn’t even call him an anti-hero. He resembles all the qualities a good protagonist needs to have, yet manages to be as realistic as possible. I truly cannot wait to read the novel to learn more about his character.

The soundtrack also does its job very well, and how it fits through the charming environment of this game makes it even more striking. Especially Ellen’s Lullaby called “The Lark in Hunter’s Net” very beautifully sung by an unknown singer. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything related to her online. This theme also proves out to be the main theme of Jack and his family and resembles deep emotions.

It offers a minimum of 15 hours of joyful gameplay, separated into three books with 7 chapters each.
With the closing of each chapter, it gives you a summary of the choices you made in that chapter. Most of the choices do matter, and they will ruin your story if you’re not careful. The animated graphics are also top-notch and to some extent, it gives the story even more meaning. Would have been better if they used modern techniques but this was the best they could do, and I don’t complain.

Overall, I would rate it 10/10 and I really wish that there were more narrative-based games like this considering the Medieval era is my most favorite era for books, movies, and videogame. There are so many stories of that era that can be told through video games and I really hope Daedalic Entertainment gets enough support to make more games like “The Pillars of the Earth”.
