Early Access Review
Few levels but there are some harder challenges that will likely take a few replays to beat. Also the perks and such that you unlock can really change the way you play levels so that also helps it feel new and fun.

Hey, one little thing you pro gamers may want to note is that button prompts for ladders and chests will not pop up while you sprint.

Really like when one of these awkward controls games is made in such a way that your character makes motions similar to what an actual person might do and I think this is one of those games. Also I think the controls have a good learning curve. After a few hours I felt fairly confident in my ability to move but still failed levels and took a while to do things and now I've completed all the achievements and challenges, one of which is completing most of a level in under 10 minutes

It is a bit short though, I hope more levels are made at some point.

My hands hurt.

A shooter with procedural generated levels and destructible environments. If you like Helldivers, Left 4 Dead, or similar games you will probably like this. Single-player feels pretty good with a robot helper to shoot and mine with the player. Co-op feels pretty good with different classes that have abilities that complement each others abilities.

One thing I especially appreciate is that the devs have made the game with a lot of modern game features but without any of the monetization methods. For instance they added a season pass sort of thing but you don't have to pay for any of it, you just progress through it like the rest of the game.

I might say that I find this a little weird, part of me almost wonders why put a progression thing in the first place. Often times the only reason to have progression is to keep people playing. In MMORPGs this has been done to keep people playing and paying for monthly subscriptions. In other games theses days you can unlock stuff for free if you grind long enough or buy it immediately. So this game has just the progression. Obviously an improvement but part of me almost thinks you could just release the cosmetics with no progression required to get them.

This game doesn't do anything crazy interesting in terms of being a rougelite/like, but it has fun physics things going on and if you like Dead Rising, you'll be happy to know that this game involves a lot of picking up random objects off the ground and beating things to death with them.

The humor is very relevant to current year, which I would say is a good thing, but your mileage may vary as I've seen some comments on youtube saying it gets a little too real. That is to say that if the workforce (specifically in the US) these days is a cause for stress, you may be often reminded of it while playing.

This is a very nice western themed top down rougelike game. I see a lot of top-down shooter games get compared to Hotline Miami, and to some degree this is understandable but, I feel, usually unwarranted. However I think this game actually is quite similar to Hotline Miami. The gunplay feels quite smooth and fast. Melee and throwing weapons are also viable methods of killing. There are also some stealth mechanics. Most of the enemies die quickly, especially if you can catch them off guard.

As the game goes on the player can save prisoners who can give the player perks like better accuracy or more damage with certain weapons. Most of them will also offer to join the player instead of giving a perk. After enough levels the player can get a whole posse of followers going.

One detail I appreciate is that the various guns are era accurate, at least as far as I can tell. However the game also takes a few fun departures from realism in the form of flamethrowers, a man-portable Gatling cannon, and TNT cannons/launchers.

There's a pretty good amount of variety in the enemies. You got guys with guns, guys with melee weapons, guys with shields, fat guys, fat ladies, Native Americans, buffalo, dogs, wolves, rams. I think the bosses are pretty interesting given the setting, though I will say that, at least at the time of writing, they are a little repetitive due to the fact that there are only three and they are always in the same order. The bosses, in order, are a slave owner who uses a whip to attack, and his slaves as human shields and additional guys for the player to fight, a bear, and the final boss, a guy who uses the aforementioned man-portable Gatling cannon to force the player to survive various bullet hell-esque bullet patterns while fighting him. I think the first boss is pretty unique and makes for a decent fight while making sense in the setting. I think the second boss simply makes a lot of sense with the setting and is also fairly difficult. Finally I think the final boss is, while perhaps unoriginal, absolutely cool and very fitting, and the fight is pretty good and very rewarding.

As with many other rougelikes/rougelites this game has some permanent unlocks. These are characters and different starting load-outs for said characters. So for instance the first character you start with is pretty balanced in all stats and starts with a revolver, but the load-outs let you start with different revolvers. Another character can choose to start with different rifles, or another character can start with different throwing weapons, etc. Some load-outs also allow a character to start with something more different from most of their other load-outs.

One thing I feel is worth mentioning is that I sometimes feel like individual runs can take a rather long time, like at least an hour. This may be due to my efforts to be thorough and find all the ammo I can however.

It also has a very cool style.
