I really love this game. I do.

I really hate poor performance and incessant crashes though. Today I've attempted to play 4 missions. 3 of these missions crashed at different times. No warning. Game just shuts down and I get asked for a crash report. I've seen the crash report more often than the mission complete screen today.

On top of this, the performance. Holy crap is this game not optimized at all. Specs are as follows:

Ryzen 9 5900x 12-core processor
Gigabyte Nvidia 4090 OC
32 GB DDR5 Ram
Installed on NVME

Low difficulties it's passable. Once you reach 6+ in difficulty level (Of which there are 12) I get anywhere between 30-60 fps. It's not at all excusable. It's not just here on pc either, even on PS5 (NEXT GEN YAKNOW) The only way they reach 60 fps is at 1080p. Laughable. Comes with a kernel level anti-cheat to help the game tag-team the crap out of your cpu while your gpu sits at 15% usage. Only playing at 1440p, not trying to do this at 4K.

And for the cherry on top, too many upgrades in the ship flat out don't work. Weapon stats are off since launch, there are plenty of bugs that show as still present in patch notes back to launch that actually do affect gameplay.

I want to love this game, I've had so much fun with it. I was just hoping with time they'd fix the above as it's been this way since launch, but no.

I'll change my review when they do something about the above.

Post Review:

Tried playing again today 6/22. 1 match, 1 crash. Half way through the mission and the game shut off for no reason.

I'm absolutely thrilled at what they did here. This is an older game, but the fact that they finally came back to remove the absolutely terrible DRM that in some cases made the game unplayable, and added steam achievements and fixed bugs just blows my mind.

Props to whoever did this. Very happy that I can finally play again... and it's steam deck verified! Good stuff.

Amazingly fun. Runs fantastic too even with RTX on. Reminds me of the intensity felt in Hotline Miami. One downside being these um... cyberspace "puzzle" sections. Horribly placed puzzles that pull all momentum and pacing to a SCREECHING halt. They aren't even difficult. They're just... boring.

A blast to play otherwise... when it actually lets you play what you are here to have fun with.

Early Access Review
Great Sequel. The change over to Unreal for 3D ships was a great decision. Still runs beautifully. The entire galactic campaign thing just blows my mind. On top of this, using open mic to capture Spotify music and use that as a basis for an enormous galaxy you can play in with literally anybody you'd like. Just share your galaxy code. Amazing ideas all over. UI is a little rough currently but the (Single) Developer seems to be updating the game almost daily... Excited to see what comes from this.

Great old Game. Unfortunately uses Denuvo so performance can vary. Also, Do not waste your time building the offline scrap projects in the game. They are projects you can build in each base that use to give the player scrap when they logged in after being offline for a time. However, after WB shut down the support for the game, these are now broken and do not work. If you're not careful, you can find yourself pretty under-powered mid to end game when it comes to scrap and upgrades. This will also prevent you from getting all achievements as there are achievements tied to this feature.

Also, the gameplay is overall fantastic. The biggest gripe I have with this game though is the fact that it kills itself. Seriously. You want a fully upgraded car? Go get it. There will be NOTHING left to do with it, as you need to complete all side-missions to get the parts you need. Once you have them, there's nothing to use them on. I guess take screenshots. No new game plus options, no respawning convoys, no respawning patrols... just emptiness.

If you can get it for less than $10 go for it. More than that and it's not really worth it.

Absolutely. Yes.

Great time. Feeling yourself wanting some old school FPS Action, look no further. Great themes, amazing art direction, Fun weapons, constantly barreling forward like a train with no brakes and full of death? Over the top and fun as hell.

Buy the soundtrack too. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is it worth it.

This game is incredible. The remaster is a mixed bag. I did receive this for free as I already owned the original.

However. This isn't a good buy. I'm not like all the other folks complaining about the launcher that was recently added. Yeah, it's an extra step, but it's really not bad. Compared to the likes of old origin or Uplay, it's very unobtrusive.

The game does look a bit prettier. Some textures and models were either remade or touched up in some way. Dynamic lighting for sure adds some spice here. Some changes or "Enhancements" were done by someone who clearly didn't understand the original dev's art direction. Overall though, not terrible.

The main problem is the crashing. Dear lord. I've played a good amount of the original across all platforms, as it's one of my favorite games of all time... and I've never experienced crashes. Maybe one or two. This remaster however, save often if you do buy, as across several hardware configurations I'm getting the exact same crash. Everything is fine, and the game just freezes. The picture remains, sound continues, and it locks up so bad you can't get to your task manager... just gotta wait it out. It happens far too often, as I've experienced enough crashes to the point that I have not been able to complete a playthrough due to just giving up as I'm tired of losing progress to crashes in a game that never had them to begin with. Major step backwards in quality, as this happens often enough that there's no way they didn't catch this in testing. I'm not alone in experiencing these either.

We'll see if they fix things up. There are rumors of both a new Bioshock and an RTX remaster of the original, so the Bioshock wheel is turning. They have acknowledged issues with the launcher, but we'll see if they actually do anything, as they didn't make this game. Irrational did.

Barely any features that step this one up over the other. Shameless cash grab. On top of it, it's a game that came out in 2021 and we have no fov slider. Default fov is close to 65. Horrendous. Devs promised an fov slider shortly after launch. Here we are in May of 2022. Still no fov slider.

Was very excited for this, but after the long wait, I can't recommend. They lost sight of what made the original great. This is just Far Cry with zombies at this point. Very grindy. The story is absolutely atrocious. The NPCs are grating. The voice acting is rough. Promised branching storylines just end in the same outcome. Choices have no weight save for maybe 1 or 2. Both sides of this "war" are downright unlikable.

I tried and tried and tried... I just couldn't bring myself to finish it in the end. It's pretty, but that's about all it has going for it.

This game is a Master Craft. Hands down. The story is absolutely amazing, well thought out, and deep. The visuals are top notch, the gameplay is just plain fun and intense. Been around since the original God of War back on the PS2. Man. This series has come a long way. I laughed, I cried, it moved me Bob.

If you're on the fence, Buy it. This is a game done right, and a port done very well. I've beat it several times on my PS4, and now it's been unleashed to it's fullest potential. It's incredible.

This is how you reboot. They kept the important things that happened in Kratos' life, and built upon that in a creative way. No throwing it all away. His past still happened.

Master Craft.
