As far as stories go, Ghostrunner is nothing to write home about. It's short and predictable. However, that's not what you should buy this game for. The gameplay is exhilarating, combining fast-paced action with platforming and puzzles, often all at the same time. There's very little hand-holding and no second chances, which makes the game unforgiving but ultimately fair. As a rule, I'm not very good at video games, which means I have a natural aversion to difficult games such as this one, but the satisfaction of getting a sequence right was uniquely rewarding, and worth the number of times I died trying to get there. Without a doubt, this is the most I've ever enjoyed being bad at a game.

The Witcher 3 is, undoubtedly, one of the best games I've ever played. It's a masterpiece that deserves every ounce of praise it gets.

My complaints number precisely two: The implementation of horses is clunky. I spend more time fighting with my horse to get it to do the simplest of things than I do actually riding it. Also, combat is a bit of a mixed bag. When just dealing with mobs and normal fights this isn't a big deal, but harder enemies prove to be a fight both against them and the controls.

Beyond this, I have only positive things to say about the game. There's a very good reason it's 4 years old now and still regularly topping the charts. The story is long, gripping, and massive; the world is breathtakingly lush and full of adventure or scenery at every turn, and visuals are absolute top-tier. Few games offer such an amazing experience as does TW3 and it's an absolute pleasure to pick up and play. It's one of the few games that I would unabashedly give a perfect 10 out of 10. What are you waiting for?

Everything about this game is great except for the main storyline. The visuals are stunning, the gameplay is vastly improved, and the new mechanics are fun to play around with, apart from the skill tree, of which maybe 25% is even remotely useful. This is why the story was so disappointing to me; it's a phoned-in sequence of yawns from beginning to end, and a complete disservice to the Tomb Raider series. It contrasts very harshly with how well-crafted the rest of the game is.

If you buy this game, do not go into it expecting much of anything from the story. Exploring and side-missions are plenty of fun, but they do not redeem the game. I'm only recommending it because outside of the story I couldn't really find any flaws.

Yakuza 0 is probably one of the best games I've ever played. If not that, definitely one of the best stories I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I can't say enough good about it. The combat is extremely satisfying, and this is much more than a reward for the callouses on your fingers from button-mashing your way through it. The world is a walled garden focusing on two rather small neighborhoods, but what they lack in size they make up for in life, color, and the many activities within. Performance isn't amazing, but I've seen far worse in a console port.

I will warn the prospective player, though, that this game was intended for Japanese audiences. Sega has translated the game into English, and that's about as far as the adaptations for us Westerners go. As such, a lot of things get lost in translation. This is to be expected, but it still bugged me a good many times.

Overall, for $20 you get a hell of a lot of game. The story is worth much more than that, alone. Do yourself a favor and play this game.

This is the first Assassin's Creed game since Black Flag that I've properly, thoroughly enjoyed. That's an achievement in itself. I really enjoyed the setting more than anything else; ancient Egypt in its waning days was a fascinating place on paper, and Ubisoft's developers did very well at bringing much of that history to life, in their own stylized way.

Origins was a refreshing addition to a stagnating series. If future games are as good as this one, Assassin's Creed may yet fight that stagnation off.

Don't let my gameplay time fool you; I sunk probably a hundred hours into this game before I took off my eyepatches and decided to buy the game legitimately because I liked it that much.

This game is fun. Of all of Paradox's games, I think this is the only one I've been able to get good at because the scale is small enough that I don't panic about the billion things I have to be doing at once. Not that I don't do it in HoI4, it's just much easier to wrap my head around, which may draw some criticism but for me it's very refreshing. It's a great strategy game and I think that it deserves most of the praise it gets.

As far as DLC goes, I understand the criticism and I agree with it wholeheartedly. I like the game enough that spending a few extra dollars every once in a while on new content doesn't bother me, but I've ridden the struggle bus before (hence the aforementioned eyepatches) and I completely understand the criticism of their business scheme, and I hope they listen to it sooner rather than later.

I can't justify a negative review for the DLC scheme alone, and the game is very fun, so overall I recommend it even for the casual player.

This review contains a spoiler for the end of the game.

Don't buy it for the story. It's probably the biggest waste of a good concept that I've ever seen. Gameplay is great, it's a good shooter, and has a very well-made open world with probably hundreds of hours' worth of things to do.

The story is not so good. Every so-often, you'll have a "hunting party" or whatever the hell they call them sent to you, usually in relation to how much damage you've caused to a leader's region. It's at this point that you take one bullet and then get knocked out. Your character wakes up to a scene where one of the leaders takes a hell of a long time to say absolutely nothing, and then you pass out again and wake up somewhere, resuming whatever it is you were doing before you were so rudely interrupted. And then at the end of the story, after you've killed all the leaders and beaten Big Mister Cult Bossman, a nuclear war breaks out and everyone dies. Depending on the ending you choose, you and Big Mister Bossman might survive and he'll give a deranged monologue about being right or whatever, and then that's it. The end.

This game is not good because of the story; the game is good despite it. Enough so that it still gets a thumbs-up.

I'm going to start by saying that almost everything technical about this game sucks. Optimization is poor, gameplay is generally half-baked, and it's got TONS of bugs. The driving mechanics, especially; it's like the person who developed them generally knew how cars acted back then but also sort of had no idea, and then just rolled with that. If you don't notice a lot of the issues early on into the game, they'll begin to show themselves quickly as you progress.

That said, if you're a big fan of Mafia and/or you're able to look past the glaring technical issues (if you can't, believe me, I understand) then this game is pretty good. The characters, in my opinion, lack some depth but are still very well thought-out, and the story is decently engaging. The city, New Bordeaux, is about on-par with Empire Bay and Lost Heaven in terms of overall design and aesthetics, and the world around it accurately reflects a lot of realities of life in the South in the 1960's. I'm also a huge fan of the music, but that's just personal opinion. The world, though, is definitely the best part of this game, closely followed by the story and characters.

Overall, this is a good game for a Mafia fan, or someone who is willing to go to great lengths for a great story. If you're the kind of person who can't stand bugs or an otherwise rather mediocre gameplay experience, then steer clear and save yourself a whole lot of time and anger. I doubt I'd have bought this if I hadn't gotten it from Humble Monthly.

TL;DR:
Story, characters, and world are more than true to the game's predecessors, but is gimped by a clear lack of time and polish put into the technical side of things. Good for a story, great for a Mafia fan, bad for someone who likes their games polished.

I got this game from a Humble Monthly bundle and I honestly didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Gameplay is reminiscent of Saints Row, with mechanics that, while lacking realism, make the experience very enjoyable. The story and overall tone of the game are more suited to a Grand Theft Auto title, keeping the nonsense to a minimum. The story actually reminds me of a Mafia title, in fact, especially Mafia 2, except for the fact that you're an undercover cop the whole time.

That actually brings me to my main gripe about the game: The story doesn't really do a very good job of reconciling your status as an undercover cop with a lot of your acts as the other side of the coin. It's a bit annoying when your handler doesn't mention a word of most of your doings as a gangster, despite being far beyond what would be considered acceptable, even for an undercover police officer, and the fact that you're made to assume that every single one of your actions is reported.

Optimization is also pretty poor. My GTX 1070 and i7-7820HK struggled to maintain 60 fps with the settings cranked all the way up.

Despite all that, I think this game is great. I expected little more than something to keep me occupied for a couple of days, but I got a compelling story, beautiful world, and genuinely fun experience that I haven't had in a long time. 9/10.
