Early Access Review
Let's be real - those server issues were absolutely horrendous. Game was pretty much unplayable until a week ago.

That being said, they're fixed now, and it takes about thirty seconds to get in game. It's a wonderful MMO if you like chasing power increases, and the combat is fun, builds are varied. Most Wayfinders you run into will be running a different weapon than the base for their Echo, and that makes the way that Echo plays substantially different.

Why read reviews? Go watch a stream - there's nothing I can say here that you can't pick up in thirty minutes.

MMO/S.T.A.L.K.E.R./Tarkov, and it actually does quite a good job of it. You don't drop armor or guns on death, but ammo prices make taking out other players still give the good dopamine rush, without having night-ending deaths with hours of progress lost. Faction play makes you feel like part of a much bigger team, but a team that WILL scavenge your corpse if you die. Alone amongst friends, if you will.

Map design makes very good use of the voxel-Minecraft-esqe graphics (this was originally a minecraft modpack), and progression feels good.

Only monetization is a CS:GO style skin case, and a premium sub that offers extra daily quests and a few login items. There was a set of starter packs (which skipped the first ten hours of progression towards a certain playstyle) that weren't too bad, but they removed them due to public response.

Finally, the updates from these devs have been crazy so far. Day 1 of release they changed matchmaking to be more fair and dropped the starter packs, and now on day 2 they are adding chat filters and report systems. They seem really passionate, and if any of the three games I mentioned above you enjoy, you should probably just stop reading these reviews and go play it.

Oh, and do the main story please. You get guns and items very quickly that way, and I feel bad for killing so many pistol Timmys.

The most afk mobile mmo game there is. Auto play, auto walk, auto talk. But it's fun, in it's own throw-it-on-second-monitor kind of way

A fantastic blend of AJRPG and farming sim - if you like both of those genres, you're gonna love this. I really wish there was full VA, but the farming content is quite diverse and gets deeper and more complex the further you go. The action combat can be difficult if you don't prepare, but a smart player will set aside part of their farm to grow things not for money, but to use as healing and buff items for fights. In this way, it does something with the farming sim genre no other game has - make you actually think about what you are growing in terms of it's usefulness, instead of how much it's worth.

8.5/10 Great music, story seems good so far, farming has depth and nuance, and the world is beautiful.

You'll notice that the majority of negative reviews have a few hours in-game and complain of getting stomped by experienced players. The thing is though - this isn't Tarkov, or Cycle, or other extraction shooters. Running away is always an option and as a chaser it is very hard and dangerous to catch, because explosives are very powerful and easy to use on Others that are chasing you. If you have the starter pistol - that's pretty much just a mob killer. Stay low, stay quiet, like a scav run.

There is virtually no storage at home in the first twenty hours of the game. I've finally gotten about 12 inventory slots at home, with more than half of that in the last five hours. This means that most players are going to bring their best gear every raid, and you should too.

Finally, as a new player, you should put a heavy emphasis on completing tasks, even over collecting money or levelling up. A lot of the mechanics in and out of raid are locked behind tasks (for example, fridges, storage, bullet plants, bank, safe storage, merchants, inventory space, house space, and more). You'll be shooting yourself in the foot by not prioritizing these, as no storage means no ability to collect and maintain power and wealth.

But my actual review is that this game is great. It's a classic top-down shooter with range strafing and flanking, but with a great twist of extraction shooter. It's also the fastest match time of any extraction shooter, with a max time in raid of 12 minutes. Quick games make the sting of a heavy-loot into death raid feel less painful, and the flavor of the world and story are just :chef's kiss:

If you like extraction games, and you like the flash-esque world of top-down games (and maybe a sprinkle of horror?), then this is an easy sell.

This game is an absolute mess...

Edit 9/28/22: ...an absolute mess that manages to be fun in the late game. Grind is still the worst out of all western MMOs.

It's a fantastic, calming puzzle game about scaling your city as big as you can with the tools you've been given, and not having too much traffic slowing the city down. Only complaint is that the global leaderboards are infested with cheaters, with almost every #1 place being a score of 2 billion, even though the next highest is like 100,000. So don't bother trying to compete online, just enjoy yourself.

This game fits into a particular genre that has gotten quite popular over the past several years, starting with games like Rust and Ark. On it's surface, it is very much one of those games, a dedicated server open-world survival PVP game, albeit with slaves instead of dinosaurs (More useful? Yes. Less ethical? Also, yes.).

However, this game is drastically different than those once you look behind the curtain. For one, there is a lot of story here, whether told through the environment, journals you find, or NPC's you talk to. There are dungeons, instanced, that put some MMO's to shame. These are high quality, high difficulty, curated pieces of content that are so satisfying to chew through. The combat is souls-like, and if it seems too easy for you, don't get complacent, because some of this content is a kicker.

There is a level of detail and care put into the Exiled Lands that puts both Ark and Rust to shame, and you'll find small, interesting tidbits of environmental storytelling throughout the varied, beautiful enviroments of the world. I haven't even stepped foot in the forests or volcano areas yet.

For those looking for PVP focused games like Rust and Ark, this is an amazing choice. Better base-building than either and the amount of specificity you can set your AI thralls to is incredible. Bases actually feel alive whether players are on or not because the thralls are very capable of defending themselves and the areas they live in. There are huge Avatars, god-like summons that you can become for a short period of time if you just really need to crack open one particular base, but you will need to sacrifice much, both time and resources to prepare such a deity. And these deities? Also explained in the main story.

TL;DR: This game is one of the best in the genre of open world survival PVP's, but also stands proudly amongst open world RPG's in terms of storytelling and flavor. If you love games like Rust and ARK, or you like open-world souls-like combat, it's simply a must pick up.

One last thing: I haven't picked up Isle of Siptah yet, the only real content DLC, but it was review bombed pretty badly while in Early Access. Might be good now, might still be trash. Who knows?

Game recommends you play the 8-12 hour campaign before playing Multiplayer... and now that I've gotten to multiplayer, it's filled with game-breaking bugs and crashes. I expected more from the companies responsible for this game.

Wow, don't even bother with the other classes. Just buy the ParaKrieger and stomp everyone else. It's so worth it. Plus, they get their own storyline. It's like a totally different game. 9/10
