The year is 3217. Humans have left Earth. Some say this was because of pollution, others say they just got bored. The true meaning has been forgotten in the ever perpetuating river of time. Multiple government funded interstellar cruise ships were launched in the year 2987, on course for separate know solar neighbours with planets suitable for life. Each boasting 50,000 souls.

Alongside these came the private interstellar cruise ships. One such was the ETTS Hermes, run by the newly formed company Earth To The Stars. This ship boasted only 27,000 souls but with double the living standards and double the ticket price. The ship however, can support up to 100,000 souls allowing for interstellar babies to be born.

In the present year, the ETTS Hermes is only 20% of the way to its destination. Population has been maxed out and with medical miracles, mitosis has been enhanced so much, DNA damage no longer occurs, allowing for perfect replication of every cell, ceasing the aging process.

Humans now grow until they deem themselves at their "peak", in which case they undergo the procedure which locks them in this state for eternity.

Death is no longer common place. It becomes a commodity. New families can no longer be supported. Therefore, it has been mandated that all couples seeking children must sacrifice one of themselves whilst the other raises shall raise them. The suicide hotlines have been swapped out for IVF hotlines, where individuals volunteer so that others may have their babies.

With individuals routinely living to beyond 100 in peak physical conditions - more have begun to experiment. Literal death rides become the norm in carnivals, promising a 20% chance of death.

The messages of past generations are slowly forgotten as the ETTS Hermes approaches its destination.
