I haven't played creature collectors since Red / Yellow, but I grabbed this on a whim since it looked cool. It's a metroidvania with a million gimmicks. Creatures have skilltrees, equipment, food and shifts so there is a lot of experimenting you can do. Very addicting.
Music is also great.

They added an achievement for winning a hand with a straight flush. This is doable, of course, just very tedious. After grinding for hours though, there is a chance you'll get it but the game doesn't recognize it.
They added an achievement for something that requires an insane amount of luck without even testing it.

Evoland has been sitting in my wishlist for the past 10 years and now I finally decided to play it.

EVOLAND 1:
Evoland 1 is a parody and doesn't take itself seriously. Nostalgia bait is shoved in your face one after another, in the style of: "hey remember random encounters? Those sucked lol. Anyway the world map will be full of them now.". The game play is garbage for the most part and the most atrocious segment is the Action RPG, which is more reminiscent of a zero budget mobile game. The specific game most referenced is FF7, which I love of course, but it doesn't save the game.
100% in 5 hours, no guides needed. They handled collection well in my opinion.
My favorite part was a town rendered in the style of FF7, that was cool.

EVOLAND 2:
Evoland 2 is a completely different story, they had a BUDGET for this game. They hired an artist and the music is good, the gameplay is overall much better. They copied many aspects over from Chrono Trigger, which fits the theme perfectly. Chrono Trigger is also somewhere at the very top of games on my list, so I'm probably biased.
Lots of variety in gameplay, mostly JRPG but we have bomberman, top down shmup, sidescrolling shmup, MTG, platformer, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ connect three, many more and a bunch of puzzles for some reason (Layton I guess). Basically a bunch of different games a millennial has probably played, with a brief glance at old games like Snake, Pong and Pac-Man.
Hard to say which part was my favorite, perhaps either The Anomaly or Antiquity. I even got invested in the story and really hoped to see more of the Magi, seeing that they are basically the enlightened ones of Zeal Kingdom.
100% in 23 hours, I really took my time with this one, didn't want it to end. Collection is a lot of work, but you can find everything without a guide.
I spent a long time just wandering around in the present, where even the characters look like they're straight out of Chrono Trigger.

Past the obvious RPGmaker/Wolf jank lies a passion project.
It's essentially Pokemon with girls, with combat directly inspired by Helen's Mysterious Castle. Lots of attention to detail, all the characters are cute, ton of events and text to go through. Pixel animations are fantastic.
Hope more people will discover this hidden gem.

In case you weren't aware, this is an EROGE and a patch is required. I also recommend a mod to remove the splash screen and disclaimer at startup for when you reload (for one reason or another)
