A survival game with objectives and an ending; Explore the four biomes in the world, find upgrade materials to level up your mana infused bullets and collect of the gears of time from elites and bosses to save the world.

Aesthetics are cool.
Music kept me going.
Upgrades and experimenting effect modifiers keep things interesting.
Combat is engaging if you bother with combos although I don't see how you can get far if you ignore them. The chaos enemies make it impossible to slugfest as they destroy floor tiles.
Varied enemies

Not very difficult: the bosses are basically bullet hell stages except for the last one which is an anticlimactic endurance match on the overworld map. The normal stage enemies are fine except for the sand map as everything is super aggressive and will keep following you throughout, not difficult but very hard to see what's on your screen with all the AoE effects going off.

I was playing solo and honestly got bored before the 3rd boss as it becomes very grindy as there's a constant need for materials and the gameplay loop forces you to go back to the hub world to reset the world timer and generate the gear objectives.
You can decorate the hubworld with over 100 decorative items and 2 dozen floor tile, which I couldn't be bothered with, the most I did was fix most of the floor as 70% of it is damaged and makes it a pain to get around if you don't. I kept playing because of the music and how cool the game looks.
It's disappointing and confusing that the game is only 2 player co-op considering that there are 4 wizards in the thumbnail/poster but after beating the game I saw that there is a mod on Thunderstore that allows up to 16 players in a lobby. I'm not sure how long that would last for since the game is really easy single player and having more players would obliterate any challenge but you could see how long your team lasts in the horde phase that happens after the 5 minute world timer.
I liked it but it is another survival game, thankfully a short one. Worth the asking price.

More of the first with some rad motorcycle levels. Very cool.

Two issues I had with the game: There's a new character that has the worst personality that nobody seriously likes (You know the one) and she talks to you throughout three missions with that tone. Give me back the sincere Zoe. Also the last boss is a bit of a faff to fight and has cringe dialogue.

The first couple of levels in the campaign are really good however it drops off after the first half.

Levels in the beginning explore the streets and abandoned buildings, the night and all the dark interiors are very tense, the lighting torches mechanics is used for fun rather than necessity and all the arena fights and one encounter fights transition to each other quite well. After the midway point you enter the underground of the map and I feel that it goes downhill quite a bit. There are a lot of "puzzles" like buttons on the floor that need things to weigh them down, completely took me out of the experience since you have to trek for a few barrels to do so. Not to say that there weren't such obstacles in the first set of levels, you do need too carry a torch at one point to burn some rags in your way and blow up some walls that wouldn't be erected in a normal city but it was more in the way after the fifth level. I was going to wait until I finished the campaign to review but the second to last level annoyed me because you have to backtrack to light some basins with fire arrows to proceed and I do not like the archery so I don't think I'll put myself through that.

Combat is pretty good, visceral, easy to slice and crush limbs, found it very satisfying. Parrying not so much, sparks fly and look nice but there's a lot of telegraphing making it seem a bit on the easy side. There's a large selection of weapons (60, 80 equipable items in total I think) which would be great, however, there are damage numbers so there is a progression path you are pushed into taking. On one hand, whatever, it's an obvious way to see that you're progressing but not particularly immersive. There's a durability system which should balance things out so you're not always carrying the highest damaging item but all the weapons past the second level have a really high durability health bar so you're not going really be thinking about it too much. There are 3 bows, only difference is weight so I would think that translates into arrow distance, not quite sure because I didn't use the bow unless necessary.

Enemies are a bit wonky, the noise they make when they run seems either too infrequent or too low, I could never tell when one was behind me so I was constantly spinning to make sure nothing was there. Their AI is ok, they take turns to strike, they do notice you when you're in plain site and within a reasonable distance, not quite homing tracking, unless you're in a building which makes sense, you've just opened a heavy wooden door and have made quite a bit of noise on the way in. Archers don't take a shot unless you're in sight and are quite real in terms of accuracy, they're accurate about 60% of the time so no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ deaths via them. Tank enemies are easy to exploit, stagger them once and wail on them with a one handed weapon and they can't recover, only an issue if there are more than one.

Loved the lighting system, I spent a good couple of sessions lighting up every intractable light source after a combat encounter for no particular reason other than because I could.

Voice acting is pretty surprisingly great, a strong portrayal of a knight with some bad tendencies with a Good alignment, in my mind it was someone akin to Arthur from Ghosts 'n Goblins.

Graphics looked really good, not on the level of Alyx but it is up there.

Overall, I'd recommend playing the first half at least, with that in mind the price tag is too high for that. For me to recommend at full price, I would need the devs to rip out the crap puzzles and if you need to replace them, do it with a lever or something to open doors, get rid of the exploding barrels or have them explode rubble instead of walls that would've never been constructed (Like the wall infront of the gate doors) and don't make me backtrack through the second to last level, if you're not going to have it be immersive at least have an archery puzzle right there that I can do. Also make potions a bit more abundant, I loved the freezing and slow mo but not a lot of potions to actually use.

I liked most of what I played but am not particularly interested in the horde mode to keep me. Will absolutely buy the next game the devs release.

The Yank in our squad had a great time. Probably because she has no team coordination or hand eye coordination.

Sickly to say the least. When entering combat, the framerate tanks and as I'm on a 7900XT with a 5800X3D, I can't imagine it's hardware related.
The weapon system feels cumbersome, hold the grip to summon your weapon, hold out weapon while using the weapon wheel to switch the weapon that hand is using, spells are 'Hold trigger and raise weapon' but worked maybe a third of the time, enemies have braindead AI that'll stand still and wait for you to approach before swinging,
The opening isn't very gripping so I probably won't open this game again.

I want to like this game but just can't. It feels like it's actively trying to make me dislike it.

I bought this game as a potion capitalist sim, it goes quite deep with its mechanics which can be overwhelming because they throw so much at you in such a short amount of time.
The brewing mechanic is great, throw items in the pot, each potion requires an equal balance of 'Magimins', and ingredients have five stats of Magmins 'A', 'B', 'C', 'D', and 'E'. Beginning ingredients have only one of these stats while potent ingredients have multiple and you need to use lesser ingredients (Or even more potent ingredients of the second required input) to balance those out if you want the two-star bonus that raises the level of potions. Some traits come are added by certain ingredients, these are positive and negative although the potent ingredients will most likely have a negative value on them, as to what they do, I don't know, the traits are relative to the senses - I imagine that the overall effect is an increase or decrease their potential value.
Potions are brewed in cauldrons that have a limit on how much Magmins and the number of ingredients they can handle. Better cauldrons can be purchased, and is advised to do so immediately when the trader shows up - I waited to have enough room for a second cauldron instead of replacing the first one and I was just not making enough money to sustain myself, if I had a better cauldron I probably wouldn't have needed to wait so long.
The shop is upgradable and customizable, cosmetics don't affect gameplay (They really should) and the shop can be expanded to have more shelves, displays and cauldron space.
Before selling, you can place your high-value potions on the display shelves which increases the amount you can sell the rest of your potions for - I'm not sure if variety changes anything or if this is limited to the type of potions on display because it's not made overly clear.

The haggling deck builder game is cool, each customer has a patience limit which determines the number of turns you get, you can apply difference statuses to invoke difference bonuses (although 'shocked' seems like the only choice to go) and overall value is calculated by potion value + interest raised. Some cards increase mental fortitude, not using these gives the MC stress that accumulates and give negative cards that invoke more stress, this can come up on normal days but for me only came up during bosses when the opponent doesn't shut the ♥♥♥♥ up to let you finish your turn. It's a neat system that I'm quite fond of.

What I'm not fond of is the dating sim, which I didn't know about until I opened the game - The description says that you CAN befriend or romance fellow vendors but with all the characters they throw at you and all their dialogue, it doesn't feel optional. There are also user tags but I tend to ignore those so it's my fault for not knowing but I bought this on release because it's a potion-selling capitalist sim and that's my niche I want to support. It's not bad that this dating element exists, it's bad that you are bombarded with so many characters with little time to play the actual game - 9 characters within the first 15 in game days with SO much dialogue, false choice, and little explanation to their business and the mechanics. It doesn't help how they are all obnoxious in how they're written, very much tumblr character vibes for most of them, I just started skipping everything and awsting time to visit them to see what service they provided. The ones of use to me were:
Casca look-alike: The first adventurer you meet, they go out with your potions and bring back loot, they need specific potions per area and take a day to bring back any loot. This is the only way in the beginning to obtain any new ingredients - Cool mechanic, she's an essential NPC.
Shop witch: She takes new items off of you and expands her item selection so you don't have to use adventurers for items you've already seen.
Walrus sells you better tools.
Pirate cats: Remove the need to deal with the adventurers with 1 loot box per day, it's all I was using for a certain point to get ingredients because I found that more worthwhile than making potions for adventurers instead of selling them - Although, again, that's a really cool aspect of the game, it felt obsolete very quickly though I feel like it will be a requirement to run through this with all adventures near the end.
Then there's fuel girl, essential to get brewing time down and expanding the shop.
Everyone else was useless to me, the first rival can add positive potion traits, there's another adventurer that you could use, a barkeep who does stocks? Bug girl who I'm not really sure about and the second rival, I haven't progresses through the game to see what he does.
The adventurers could've probably just been a board of randomly generated NPCs that you could use and die if you didn't equip them properly but I guess that wouldn't fit in with their dating sim.

Now, for the most part, my review seems favourable as it seems like I can play through the game quite happily and skip through the dating sim crap - No. I have mutiple issues.

It takes so long to get through a conversation and get through the dialogue choices to get them out of my shop or to get out of a vendor's shop, for dialogue, I wish for an overview button that just gives me the end dialogue selection. There is a skip button, but it's not fast enough, it still makes you sit at the end of an animation transition and select the choices individually. Just let it be over in 2 clicks.
The rivals in competitions boo you but they also take too long and drag out the whole affair, they camera cut, they let out a line of dialogue or two of dialogue and it cuts back to your character who reacts with a debuff. Just make it a two-second animation that plays over your turn in the corner with a chibi-style smirk or laugh or insult instead of dragging this out. Make it all happen quickly.
Navigating menus and locations take a while, in the house there is an extended fade out and transition for every menu and I find it very hard to believe that displaying potions cannot be an immediate overlay or that customising the shop can't just be a quick switch to a different mode. It's little things like this that killed my flow when trying to explore what everything did.
The travel menu is a hover menu, not particularly a bad decision but I accidentally clicked on a few locations instead of opening the menu, thought it was worth noting.
And the thing that made me give up is that I wanted to start a new game with what I had learned and maximize profits from the beginning, but the tutorial is unskippable, very long, and forces you to act and sit through all the NPC convos again. Not worth doing, My last save is one timeslot before the second competition which I could win by changing out the deck so something more defensive but I just want better potions. It's not fun to start this game over.

The game looks stunning, big fan of the 3D style it's got going on, but the card art not so much, the chibi shop overview is lovely, I love the style of the MC, and I liked the Uncle/owl character and do want to see their story but the game isn't worth finishing in my eyes. Maybe if QoL is updated but not as it is now.

Something else to mention, there's no endless mode which feels like a no-brainer to add, purely a campaign that supposedly has no end game. If it had an endless mode or scenario mode (Like what Frostpunk has going on), I would change this to a positive and front load this review detailing that mode. I'm interested in what else the devs have to offer as the gamplay is good, just needs better QoL really, it's quite polished in every other aspect.

Not in 2023. I like the canyon levels but the mechanics are very dated. You will always hold a gun in your hand even when interacting with objects with I find very jarring, you cannot drop weapons - Only switch them out, when doing the horde bit at the end of the level some areas (Like a balcony) get invisible walled off to force you to be out in the open, and something that just stopped me from playing: You get a flashlight but can only hold it one way - The backwards way that's really uncomfortable to hold.
