Pretty much dos2 with cutscenes. Combat is boring and there's no build diversity - reminds me of why I don't like 5e rules.

Pretty tedious, even for a roguelite. The core combat loop is hit-dodge-hit-dodge for any melee, and hit-run-hit-run for ranged. Enemies do large amounts of damage quickly, so it's more dodging than hitting. Items and powerups are not satisfying and you never collect more than a few.

You are forced to switch characters after a few runs due to a debuff that applies if you use a character too much, which is just bad design. Give incentives to use other characters instead of punishing players for using their best character. Similarly, you need to level up characters before they're capable of taking on higher levels which is really just a slog.

It seems that they have implemented such features to make the game seem like it has more content, sort of like a Diablo style do-the-story-again-but-it's-higher-level kind of thing, except way more boring and inane.

I recommend you check out Hades or Slay the Spire instead of this game. If you've already played both, try a different genre instead.

Hades is a masterclass on how to make a proper, engaging gameplay loop with satisfying progression and a story to match. Slay the Spire is a card-based roguelite, so it might not tickle your fancy if you were looking for hack and slash, but it has some of the most depth I've ever seen in a genre where you restart every time you die.

Wolcen is an ARPG that fails on all possible aspects of the ARPG.

An ARPG must feel good to play. Smooth movement is essential, as is good targeting and near-lagless gameplay.

Wolcen has terrible, choppy, default-attack-when-I-meant-to-walk-over-there movement.

Wolcen has huge collision boxes for everything: (enemy) attacks, movement, and skills.

99% of all damage I have taken came from attacks that were aimed halfway across the screen. When I use a skill, it takes half a second to actually activate and then locks me in endlag for another five thousand years.

Overall, Wolcen is the worst game I have played in recent memory.
