Excessive focus on content that's not the Main Missions that are unfun and overly restrictive challenges. It feels like challenges in The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth(the worst part of the game barring Delirium) cranked up exponentially in quantity. They need to be either immensely shorter or turned down massively in just how many there are.

I initially wanted this review to be a plea for an extended version of Ratoo. The area in which it's played is one of the most beautiful areas in the game and that is in no short part in the slightest because of this very song. But if it has to be 49 seconds long, then so be it. I can still listen to it for hours on end.

Overall, an amazing and unique soundtrack that sets and fits the tone and theme of the game perfectly. I don't usually buy game OSTs, especially since River Boy was gracious enough to put them on Spotify anyways, but I will 100% make an exception for this one.

I don't know how to describe what I just played through without spoiling stuff.
That or I'm just lazy.
Yeah no, it's both.

For real though, it's 2 hours long, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself throughout the time I played it. So go get it. It's the cost of a 5$ footlong. Ya ain't got no excuse.

Good game brought down by the developers' god awful design choices.

It's a huge flop from the first game. A transition to 3D was a bad idea. VERY BAD.

The game consists of 10% Getting to the bosses and 90% Fighting the bosses. And I assure you that you'll either be raging or bored as ♥♥♥♥ for 95% of the time you play this game. It revolves around you... Well, revolving around a center point of gravity. Some times what surround that point is material you can stand on. Some times it's surrounded by two balls of water on opposite sides of each other. Or just water. You have many different ways of moving around this terrain. How well do these mechanics function? Pretty damn poorly. I'm a frequent player of Team Fortress 2, so I came into this game biased and used to a certain form of aerial movement. Though a good game will know how to get you associated with its movement system. Anyways, the quality of the game is Sonic the Hedgehog levels of transitions to 3D. There's not much good to say about it, excpet that it has good music. But that doesn't give you an excuse for making a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. Now, onto the bad things.

The first three inch thorn stuck in my big toe is getting to the bosses. Dear god is it tedious. Some platforms are so difficult to get to, it comes down to spinning around the panet that you revolve around and hoping to god you somehow land on one. Though this isn't that bad, since the game puts you straight back into the action when you die, but it's still so annoying. It can take 15 Minutes to get to the boss. Not going through an action packed level or being taken through an intriguing story. Just looping around a planet, trying to get onto a foot long platform while at Mach 4. An when you finally get to it, you're treated to a hardcore BDSM room, Who's on top? That depends on the boss.

Yes, the bosses. The footlong porcupine quill stuck into your chest. Some lay on the table and strap themselves in, crying for punishment. Others shove you onto it and make a lamp post come out the other side of you like a rotisserie chicken. The prior kind of bosses are so easy, it comes down to holding down three buttons for about 5 minutes. No need to prepare this scenario. It's that simple. The latter bosses are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane, They either keep you in an cramped space or have attacks that are so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying to dodge, and may I add you can only get hit three times. And even after five minutes of arbotrary button holding or hours of trying to dodge those attacks that literally made a hole in your wall, directly or not, You have to deal with something else. A boss after that boss.

Yes, the heart shaped vortex. The dog that's finished eating your reproductive organs and is going to your brain for some dessert. This thing shot the chance of a good game in the leg. This thing rapid fires large green orbs I can only identify as sea urchins and makes rods come out of the terrain. May I also mention that it seems to have a lot more health than the actual boss. Just imagine it. It's taken you so long to defeat a boss. You finally take away its last heart, only for the game to say "Nope, ♥♥♥♥ you. You have to fight another one. Oh, you failed? Well do it all again." I never finished the game. Because I am not a masochist. I am a sadist, but definitely not a masochist. Even Dark Souls veterans wouldn't and shouldn't beat this game. It is a pile of crap that does nothing but make a mockery of what Spaceman Sparkles 3 could have been.

Flaws, Flaws Everywhere

I wouldn't say that I recommend this game, yet I wouldn't say that I don't.
The game itself is fun, especially when you have a really good build, but it's got so many faults.

For one, the melee classes are abysmally bad. Getting close to enemies is bad enough, but all of melee classes have a slow attack. With the exception of one, but you still have to get close and personal. Which is bad, because it makes fighting ranged enemies tedious. And fighting some of the bosses is impossible because they either move around a lot or getting close will put you in a bad position, making you die faster a Mayfly. It's just better to use a Ranged class, the best example being Archer and Rogue, because of their quick rate of fire, ability to cancel out projectiles by firing at them, and starting off with the most speed.

Another flaw in this game is the fact that it lags (this one is personal). A Pixelated game that LAGS. This is something that I very rarely see. From what I can tell, it's all the dynamic lighting and particle effects from the torches. It could also be the corpses as well, since the farther I get into a level, the more lag there is. And the worst part is that my game runs at 30 FPS as oppossed to, what I can tell, is supposed to be 60. So my game runs at half the speed it's supposed to. Everything feels sluggish. It's kind of frustrating in its own right.

This game seems to be trying to be a difficult roguelike, somewhat akin to something like Nuclear Throne and Dark Souls (And not just because of the "Souls" in both names). And it achieves that. In all the wrong ways. As Vlambeer, the developer of Nuclear Throne, once said, "it's not fair, it's not right". This game isn't right. Some attacks from bosses and enemies happen so fast, you can barely take in it's coming for you before you take in in the face. Some bosses, especially the final boss, fire so many projectiles that they feel impossible to dodge. And if you focus on dodging, you're likely to get shot in the face with a laser you couldn't even comprehend was there until you lose half your health.

I've unlocked hard mode. It was one of the biggest goals I had for this game. And I don't want to reach any farther. Hard Mode is, from what I can tell, Borderline IMPOSSIBLE. I can only imagine the final boss doing twice the already ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of damage. I hate games that do Hard Mode like this. The ones that don't change anything except the damage and health of enemies. Also, I'm pretty sure the final boss wouldn't be that bad, if I wasn't sure it would have twice the health.

Now that I've gotten through some of the flaws in this game, I will talk about the cons... After I take a break because I'm getting tired of typing. But it can all be summed up into 1 thing.

Dungeon Souls is a mediocre game.

There you go.

The Update is good, I guess. Added new Environments for the Chapters. But all of the Items are just Flashy! And most of them are based on things ALREADY IN THE GAME. Nothing is really new. Lillith is a nice character. Kinda. The Concept of a familiar (That actually takes on the effects you would normally get) I found interesting. Greed mode, though, is, more or less, an easier version of the normal game in a single room. It's... Meh. It's a decent DLC, but there's only 1 thing that made me almost rage and give this a Negative Rating: THEY DIDNT FIX THE MOST BROKEN CHARACTER, THE LOST. The D4 Doesn't fix ♥♥♥♥! A D6 would've been SO MUCH BETTER! If you get a good item, you're gonna be very reluctant to use the D4, because you could basically turn that item into something like Bob's Brain. And if it's a bad, the same thing could happen. And if you get an Activated Item, ITS ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ USELESS. IT CAUSES MORE BUTT HURT INSTEAD OF MAKING HIM BETTER AND MORE FUN TO PLAY. I CANT COUNT THE MANY TIMES IVE GOTTEN AN ACTIVATED ITEM ON MY FIRST ITEM ROOM AND ALMOST FLIPPED ME ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TABLE. AND THE MANY TIMES IVE GOTTEN A BAD ITEM, AND TURNED IT WORSE. I will keep playing with mods until you ACTUALLY FIX HIM. And you KNOW you've failed as a Game Designer if the Pirated Copy is better than the original.

Edit: Almost forgot to mention: TOO MANY NEW TROLL ROOMS. ENEMIES IN DEVIL ROOMS?! COME ON!!!
