Probably one of the best and one of the worst Yakuza games I've ever played. The combat is incredibly tense and rewarding at times (if you don't cheese it). The plot is forgettable but it's pretty laser-focused on a goal and a series of events unlike One or Four where it's just a trainwreck of threads and "Actually I was betraying the guy betraying you midway through betraying someone else and betrayal doublecross also I'm trying to take over the world!!!" The grind is unreal you need like 1000 ryo and 20 of each super rare ingredient for just an average sword others at the end of trees are like 500 and for context a super highstakes gamble with insane odds will net you like 100 if you're ballsy and have the devil's luck with a rarity of roughly 1 in 50 tries per chance at this jackpot. There's 400 troopers apparently? I got like 20 by the end of the game spending a moderate amount of time screwing with that part of the game no clue how you get 20x that. Some of the bosses are cartoonish literally unleashing kamehameha's outta nowhere where you're probably gonna die to them just cause who the hell would assume someone can just do that? The sidestories are generally awful such as "feed me 10 healing items, one by one, spaced out by 5 dialog boxes each plus ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO USE THIS ITEM" now do that 5 times and you're this guy's friend good job. Can't forget that veggie kid who wants to be fed vegetables 20 times or the junk kid who wants garbage 20 times or bone dog who wants a bunch of bones! They can screw with other stuff in the remake and add new features or mechanics but decide to leave that stuff in I really don't get the logic. The fighting styles are fun but you're gonna use one the entire game unless you've got a mental disorder that makes you like trains and consistent predictable patterns. A lot of the casting makes no sense like Awano's character, other's nailed it so I can only assume they're bait and switches for fans but it still is annoying seeing the miscast when other way better characters existed for the 1 to 1 roles from other titles. Apparently they censored Ryuji's ass too which is unacceptable. Overall worth it like any other Yakuza game (on sale).

Run straight ahead clicking through the endless cutscenes establishing lore literally nobody cares about until you hit endgame then bust out the commode and hotpockets and cast away your life to grinding for nothing for months while everyone around you wordlessly commits their own personal jihad devoting years of time to this soulless husk of an MMO.

Sick ass soundtrack, deceptively hard.

Actually pretty fun and nails the vibe (unlike NMH3). Jim Sterling is and always was a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ disregard all his reviews like I've been doing and realizing most of the games he's trashed are actually great.

What a sad excuse for a sequel. Let's turn the main character into a depressed broken record that won't get old in under 15 minutes of him repeating himself. Max Hass has more to say than BJ in this game. It's framed as a victory lap for the nazi's but in reality it's a victory lap for lefty morons giggling at nazi's being (gasp) humans! Wouldn't it be funny if a nazi in full combat armor was professing his love for a woman? What if a fat incompetent daughter of a general decided to become a self-indulgent race mixing fetishist who gets publicly flogged by the enemies she gave up everything to help out. What if the replacement for a strong independent woman was a cowardly drug addict escapist? New Order and Old Blood humanized monsters without making it a parody. This game just reeks of twitter posts bragging about when they came across a white supremacist rally at the local supermarket and they stood up and said that's not right and the whole store stood up and clapped.

Building is still pointless and the survival aspects are now way easier. They should just remove eating and drinking and make it an action horror game at this point.
