April 9th update: With the recent changes to how the game works, its (already present and already mentioned in my original review) predatory nature trying to force the user into dumping money in this game, the removal of playable characters you don't own (this plays a big feat in case they pull the plug of the servers, since it could preserve at least the local play) I am no longer able to point any positive side of the game besides its gameplay, which is heavily filtered by the average user's inability to access to everything the game has to offer in a reliable way.



I invested my previous three days playing nothing but this game, first on Switch, then on PC. Let me get this straight down:

Pros:
- Very solid kart racer. Skill floor is very low, but the ceiling can be very high.
-Good cast of characters. Each have their own set of skills and they're all pretty funny to play. I just messed up with the free ones the game gives you and they're funny to use so far.
-Cross platform and cross progression. That's the base for every single multiplayer game nowadays, but I'm glad It's the norm now. I can play with any friend or carry my progress whenever I go.
-Works on Steam Deck. It can't keep 60 FPS most of the time, but the experience is smoother than Switch. Although on Switch is hardlocked at 30 FPS and here It's 60.
-Offline play or private lobbies all have everything unlocked with the characters maxed out. Saves up some grinding. [THIS IS NO LONGER THE CASE]
-There's an online multiplayer mode (where you can also party up with some pals) where you can use your own set of characters but they're maxed out, so you don't have to deal with them being levelled up to use them seriously.
-OST is alright

Cons:
-Content is pretty dry. The single player challenges are all "Finish first", "Finish while attacking foes", "Finish after drifing 10 secs" and so on. But they're mandatory if you want to progress and unlock the better stuff.
-Being free to play means the game has to monetize somehow. And the way the game does it is very, very predatory and aggressive. It will, most of the time, send you prompts about things to buy, from characters, to upgrades for them. And you need the upgrades or certain characters to be able to progress through the single player missions or if you want to stand a chance in ranked.
-The game being pay2win it means that whoever got the Founders edition some months ago gained huge advantages in resources, along with the actual strong characters in the game being highly levelled and making low elo lobbies simply not fun for a good chunk of the playerbase.
-Physics can sometimes be janky.
-Mike Wazowski, Belle and Jesse are a thing apparently

Are you seeking a new arcade racing game to invest your free time on, appreciating its core mechanics? Ignoring all the pay2win stuff and focussing mostly on the modes where it doesn't matter as much? Then this game may be for you.

Are you seeking an actual competitive game where you want to invest your free time on? If you do then be ready to invest a lot of money in this game.

Things I'm fine with OW2:
-Being F2P (although it should have been F2P since OW1's decline and not NOW)
-Replacing loot boxes with a Battle Pass
-Not using using BNet's app
-Being fine to run it on Steam Deck without additional steps so I can play while on the toilet

Things I'm not fine with:
-Being F2P that requires a verified phone number to combat smurfs and cheaters (it doesn't)
-New heroes obtainable only through battle pass at first or endless grinding
-Battle Pass not having the currency that will let you buy the next one once completed (literally almost every game that has a Battle Pass does this, what the hell?)
-Poor balancing. Very, very poor balancing. And not that OW1's balancing was good either, but... man, where do I begin?
-Taking away features from OW1, such as Looking for Group. How am I supposed to befriend people now in this game?
-Just three paid PVE missions where only the Torb one is good
-Content drought for 4+ years in this game for basically nothing

Mosaique Neko Waifus 4 is a very highly suggested piece of art. You will engage dialogues with fictional women who are interested in you just because you're playing a game. Dev had a huge tight+latex fetish and it shows. I also developed such fetish thanks to the dev. I 100%'d it though.

I hope none of my irl acquaitances knows I played this. It's very awkward and very hard to explain. Avoid if you aren't a degenerate. If you're an horny mfer then this is for you.
