A story about growing old, endings and beginnings, family ties, and most importantly, parenthood. The narrative is very straightforward and includes a lot of references to previous games, as this is a culmination of that. However, whether you've (hopefully) played the other games in the series or you decide to jump straight into this entry, Yakuza 6 provides a beautifully told, hard hitting story that most players should be able to connect with. (Some of the writing can be exposition heavy or in a few rare occasions unnecessary, but it's ultimately great that it's there!)

As for the combat, I personally like it. Some people used to the more lightweight combat in the other entries may find the weightiness a bit off-putting, but I feel it really matches the tone of the game.

Same goes for pacing in that Kamurocho and Onomichi provide very different extremes in terms of pace. Kamurocho is very much the vibrant, chaotic beast that it always has been, with Onomichi providing a much more serene, slower pace of life. Both are great in their own rights, and while some players do complain about Onomichi feeling "empty" or "too little" compared to the Kamurocho we've grown up playing in, again I feel it's very much intentional of the experience, and I highly recommend just taking your time to take in that more gentle pace of living. The game always has things that you can do, and you can lose countless hours in its various faucets of gameplay. However, with this one it's worth taking your time to really digest the details and intricacies on display here.

As for audio, the game is fully voiced in all aspects. This is a huge jump from the partial audio with dialogue boxes from the previous games, and quite fitting for this entry. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio really went all out when it came to the presentation of this game, and it shows. The music is great too however, I highly recommend downloading the licensed music restoration mod, as Citypop legend Tatsuro Yamashita's music provides that emotional gut punch for various moments throughout the game that while the replacement music does a great job of conveying a similar mood, doesn't hit quite as hard as the nostalgic synths and Yamashita's uniquely gentle voice.

Overall, I recommend playing the entire series in general, but if you do make that journey through the games that chronicle 28 years of Kazuma Kiryu's life, please do stop by and play this. The series can provide hundreds of hours of gameplay and, it can probably be hard to imagine putting in that much time just to buy and play this entry, but in doing so you'll be taken on a deeply personal journey of your own - one that will take you through all kinds of wild, hilarious, and sometimes heartfelt places, but will leave you with an experience that you won't find in many other games out there.

(P.S./TL;DR - I didn't quite expect to write as much as I did but, there's a lot to unpack with this game. It's essentially the culmination of 10 years of storytelling and games development, and it may be confusing or bewildering to new players. It's brilliant though, and for as low price as it is there is so much packed into this game to enjoy! You should buy it, even at full price)

Reviewing based off the PS Vita version (which this is a much more enhanced port of) but yeah, this game is pretty amazing, I'd highly recommend it.

I'd also highly recommend supporting HD Remasters at price points like this, unlike Atlus' upcoming SMT3 HD Remaster which they're charging £45-£55/$50-$70 for in all territories, for absurd and probably gross capitalistic reasons.

Best nightclub simulator out there!

Oh and yeah, there's the rest of the game too, which is pretty great I guess.

A great entry point into the series for beginners, but also a nostalgic trip through the series for veterans - Yakuza: Like a Dragon provides a fresh take on the series with combat that feels like a mixture of Dragon Quest and Persona with the chaos you'd expect from a Yakuza game, a huge plethora of sidestories and world content that makes the game world feel really lived in, and the narrative has a fresh, yet familiar feeling to it with protagonist Ichiban Kasuga being more of a charismatic leader, than Kazuma Kiryu's more stoic nature, with the differences represented through every aspect of the game.

The gear and upgrade system is in-depth and paced, though to complete the game's post-story endgame content you will need to max out everything you can, as the encounters are more than willing to leave you on your ass again and again.

Overall, yeah, just get it for the Karaoke tbh, if you need any other reason to play this game. Maybe get the middle tier version of the game too, as some of the DLC isn't as worth it.

Haven't even got through the first act yet but already it's pretty awesome! Deep combat, interesting characters, the potential to run custom campaigns D&D style, honestly looking forward to seeing what they do with Baldur's Gate 3!

Early Access Review
Really promising, fairly polished alpha that shows a lot of potential in terms of what the full game will be. The level of challenge feels just right, mix of 2v2 and 1v1 battles keeps things varied and fresh, monster designs and general art style is quite nice too. It honestly feels like the Pokémon MMO that fans have been waiting some time for now, especially in terms of how this game handles online matchmaking and trading in a lobby-esque system vs. Sword & Shield's weird Y-Comm/stamp system that barely works half the time. If they allow for cross-play when the full release with console ports come out and add a few more features to improve the variety of gameplay interactions, they could really be onto a winner here.

Only thing I will say however is that they're currently running the game off what feels like a pretty small server, so be ready to queue for a while during peak times. Also be prepared to disconnect a lot right now, and probably be prepared for any character data you accrue during these stages to eventually be wiped closer towards full release (this is an actual Alpha after all).

Also, there's no EXP share for your party so be ready to grind each of your caught Temtems to get them all up to appropriate level.

That said though, at least this game's got actual attack and movement animations.

There are many activities in this game that you can do, but they all serve as mere filler to the main gameplay mechanic/true means of progression: invading unsuspecting women's (or men's, if that tickles your fancy) bedrooms in the middle of the night and coerce them into having sex with you.

10/10
