I enjoyed Helldivers 2 when it first released. It ran well, the co-op chaos felt fresh, and I was excited for future updates. But over time, the downsides became obvious: the gameplay loop is shallow, and new updates haven’t expanded it in any meaningful way.

Instead of new gamemodes, factions, or more complex politics and missions that expand on the potential of the game, we keep getting bland objectives (Kill 100000000 Terminids cause why not), Warbonds that lock most new weapons, armor, and stratagems behind either heavy grind (50+ hours for 1000 credits) or more money. It’s not just cosmetics, a huge chunk of actual gameplay variety is paywalled.

It became a game that dangles “just enough” content to keep people grinding while avoiding the real improvements players have asked for: new factions, large-scale operations, deeper customization, or missions that feel different than “kill bug/squid/bot, push terminal button, extract.” Even the Illuminate update, fun for a handful of hours, quickly fell back into the same repetitive loop, made worse by lag and new bugs, the performance issues make it unplayable for my PC, which is definitely suited to run the game at a stable 60fps.

Yes, you can grind for credits, but not everyone has the time to sink dozens of hours just to unlock one Warbond. And telling players “don’t buy it then” ignores the reality: this game now locks most new content behind 10€, unless you want to spend 130-150€ (THAT'S A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ LOT) to get the most you can out of the game, don't expect you'll like it for long.

TL;DR: Great concept buried under repetition and ABSURD monetization. I wanted to love it, but Arrowhead’s priorities are clear, more Warbonds, not more game. What could’ve been an evolving co-op classic is now a cashgrab with horrendous performance. I'm not here to gatekeep you out of the game, but please, CONSIDER IT VERY WELL BEFORE PURCHASING.
