It's pretty neat.

There are a lot of good UI improvements (autotrade makes managing your economy slightly more streamlined without ruining the fun of build planning) and the new half-campaign is decently challenging. There's a lot less sitting around and waiting in the new missions, which will appeal to new RTS sensibilities.

I do think the marketing campaign around the new missions has been a bit misleading. They've been advertising the new missions sets as being themed around our old favourite villains of the series, but they're not really. The villains were characterised by their difficulty, their VA's fantastic performances, and the units they threw at you during the campaign. None of these internal consistencies have carried over. Just a personal bone I'd like to pick, the missions are still good (the Peninsula castle build was a highlight).

Run around in a giant mech blowing stuff up. What's not to love. You can even stand in the middle of a busy highway and watch the cars swerve to avoid you, crashing into each other. Highly recommended for a measly ten bucks.

I'm having a fantastic time after about 8 hours of gameplay, there's a lot of subtext in every scene to tread through and I'm seeing a lot of foreshadowing for the future that I'm very much excited for. The characters are all fun and interesting (shoutout to bestgirl Narasaki) the music is good, the animation is admittedly low quality but the developers clearly had fun experimenting with '2D stop motion'. If you're looking for a cute story, this is for you. if you're looking for a mystery, this probably is for you too! I'm looking forward to seeing the payoff and reading through this again with more knowledge~
