Clair Obscur is generational.

The story is compelling, with twists that keep you guessing and do not feel cheap. The characters feel alive, with real motivations, desires, and fears. The themes about confronting your grief and not letting it consume you completely will resonate - especially for anyone who has experienced the pain of loss.

The art direction is breathtaking. This game is oozing atmosphere, with a setting so immersive it refuses to let you go.

The soundtrack is iconic. Easily up there with games like Halo, in my opinion. It isn’t just music. It’s part of the world, part of the story. The emotional weight of the big moments wouldn’t land the same without it.

The parry and dodge mechanics are challenging but very rewarding. The picto and lumina system rewards creativity. The variety of builds offers genuine depth and replayability. There aren't many games where I look forward to playing NG+, but this is one where I feel like I need to do it.

By the time the journey was over, I felt empty in that rare way a piece of art leaves you asking yourself, "What now?" It is easily one of my favorite games in the last decade — perhaps ever. I really recommend it to anyone looking for a game that is not only mechanically satisfying, but also tells a story that hits you in the soul.
