tl;dr at the bottom. I may have made this too big..

Metro 2033 is one of those games that you really don't expect to have such nice qualities to it, especially given the age and graphics of it. When I came into it I was fully expecting just a generic post-apocalyptic story where there would be over the top action and little to no focus on story and other such details. I was horribly wrong. Metro 2033 was surprising in just how well many elements of the game were executed. Despite it's age and lower graphics/animations, it still holds up very well in regards such as storyline and atmosphere. It's hard to capture the feeling of being in a post-apocalyptic nuclear torn world where mere survival is a challenge, but this game did just that.

The extent to which the developers put detail into it, especially at such a time (2010) truly did pleasantly surprise me. While playing you don't feel like you're some sort of gigantic superhero capable of leveling whole cities, the characters you meet along the way don't seem like dull lifeless robots who perform their own set actions and paths and forgotten minutes later, they feel like actual characters you can get sort of attached to, and not many games at least from my experience can really do that right.

As mentioned before atmosphere is a major positive of this game. During your journey through the decimated ruins of Moscow or your trek through the mutant and anomaly packed tunnels of the Metro you never feel safe. There's always that unease of where something could easily kill you, constantly keeping you on your toes and never truly feeling as though nothing can harm you. Many times while playing the game I've felt a fear creeping up on me, whether up on the surface or when underground. You never know when a mutant might just jump up on you and begin mauling you from behind, or when a tripwire would cause the death of you a moment after creating the dreaded sound of a fuse being lit. Metro 2033 isn't a specifically horror based game, but it sure did scare me quite a bit throughout the game purely because of how well the world was created.

As for the negatives of the game, there are a few. It's not a perfect game by far:

One kink is the fact that you cannot change the FoV. When first beginning to play I felt extremely weird trying to aim and move around, and actually had trouble starting out. You get used to it over time, but it's certainly annoying if you prefer to have your own set FoV. There may be a fix to this, but I myself haven't found it.

Another issue occurs when fighting mutants. Almost all mutants will charge Artyom and at times will actually phase into you, making it difficult and sometimes frustrating to shoot at them. This becomes far more prevalant when fighting packs of mutants and can quickly lead to your demise due to inability to kill them immediately after they charge.

One last issue that I have with the game is that there is no way to backtrack with your current game's progress, so if you miss something for an achievement or moral points. you have to either finish the game and make a new one (on that chapter, or from the start) or just remake a game from that point and discard your progress. This is understandable though, as it is an older game and was created under less than stellar conditions from what I have heard.

Despite these negatives I still absolutely adored playing this game, so much to a point where I've played it twice already and am actually intending on playing it a 3rd and maybe 4th time. There's so many little details that you can miss during your first or second playthrough, it allows finding more stuff and discovering different things every time you play for the most part. The combat isn't too bad, and some of the gameplay mechanics (The fear of running out of gas mask filters or it actually breaking during a hard fight is horrible.) are pretty okay. I would recommend this game. It's not a masterpiece, and it's definitely not the most amazing thing ever, but it's a great game to come across.

In short, Metro 2033 is a semi older game with amazing atmosphere, pretty great storytelling, okay combat/gameplay, and less than stellar graphics compared to games of today. It's fairly unique, has a side of some bugs with kinks here or there, but still retains the status of a great game in my eyes. I recommend it fully to anyone who is a fan of story oriented games, and to those who enjoy a very well made world.

An extremely fun co-op or solo fps tower defense game. The layouts for the maps are for the most part great and allow you to think of many ways to delay your enemies and bring out the full potential of your towers, including creating killzones. The soundtrack in my opinion is fairly nice, gameplay is unique and not exactly boring especially when feats of strength (Difficulty multipliers) are enabled. The story isn't exactly the best, but the comics that explain it are really well done. The game actually has a large amount of replayability, and a huge pool of content to go through when including the DLC. Which brings me to one of my only complaints, the fact that some towers and perks are not accessible if you didn't buy the content. However, to me the DLC is 100% worth the money as it brings a VERY large amount of content into the original vanilla game. Almost 40 hours into the game and I'm still barely halfway through it trying to beat every map with all the feats of strength enabled, but the good part about this is that so far it's been really fun trying to 100% it and nab all the achievements. I fully recommend this game to anybody who is a fan of tower defense and co-op, and even if you don't it's still fantastic.

One last thing, the Easter Eggs in this game are pretty nice, been a while since I've played a game where they're pretty prevailant and reward you for exploring.

Honestly...This is one of my favorite games from this year. It's a side-scrolling rogue platformer as it says. I like almost every aspect about this game, the music, the levels, the gameplay, and the story. The way it starts you off small, with weak enemies, quickly progressing to become a literal monsoon; with souped up versions of the once weak advesaries you farmed money off of.The collection of items with unique properties in order to survive make every run for the most part a unique experience. A continually increasing difficulty based on how long you've spent in-game gives a sense of urgency, choosing between exploring for more items or leaving for the next area. The game instills a comedical nature at some parts, but also a dark depressing story aspect at others. Above all however I absolutely love the music as composed by Chris Christodoulou, especially the ending song which essentially summarizes the entire game's experiences.

The Single-player is for the most part easy as long as you play smart, playing with friends actually makes it a tad harder but that makes it all the more fun. I seriously recommend this game, as horrible as I am at recommending stuff.
