It took me nearly 20 years to finally finish this game, because I always had horrible luck with it (memory card corruption once, then a HDD failure the second attempt deep into the game)

But man this is a really good game. I don't know why this one is so quietly in the background when people talk about the old FF games.

I'd actually rank this one above VII overall. Pure story wise, 7 probably is still better, but when also considering gameplay, this is easily the best of the old guard.

FFVIII will always be my favorite for personal reasons, but biases aside, 9 is the best of the 3 overall.

This is a good game, with some flaws as with any game, but the developer is very active and quick to make changes to try and improve the game.

I like the different approach this game takes as well, with limits on wildlife and such that can be over hunted and run out.

The art style is nice and overall I've had no crashes in 11 hours. If this game continues to develop, it has the potential to be one of the best games in this sub genre of city survival games, and I have seen no reason to believe it won't with how active and responsive the dev is to feedback.

This game will always have a special place in my heart, behind only Xenogears,

This remaster has some flaws admittedly, but it still gives you the FF VIII experience. I'm sad I've finished the game. Perhaps the time saving of the 3x speed wasn't a good thing after all lol.

Good game is good.

One of the best optimized games I've played in awhile. Runs great on ultra settings 1440p with DLSS 60+fps without 45+ on my i9 9900, 3070, 32gb PC.

Gameplay over all is am improvement over the first game.
Graphics also improved, still the most natural looking environments I've seen in a game.
Lockpicking still sucks.
Story is solid.

There is some questionable additions, if you're worried about "woke" stuff in the game, they did add "gay options" which make no sense based on what we were told about henry in the first release, but they are easily avoidable/ignorable. I was hesitant because so many games have been ruined lately, but this one is fine imo.

Graphics 9/10 overall 15/10 for environment natural feel/look.
Gameplay 8/10 for the most part better than the first game, but still some irritating things and weirdness here and there * May be improved with patches TBD *

Story 9/10
Sidequests 9/10
Mini games 9/10

Combat is hit or miss right now, its either a 7/10 or a 1/10 depending on the games mood. Sometimes everything works good, other times they'll hit you with a 30 hit combo you can't do anything about and its just game over with no logical reasoning. I just had it suddenly stop giving me the option to defend at all (and no its nothing to do with stamina, you can perfect block with no stamina at all, that's actually supposed to be how to get it back in combat), which obviously resulted in my death once they started a 8 hit combo (not exaggerating) that I literally couldn't do anything about, for no apparent reason.

Some enemies will take out almost all of your health with one hit while you're strength level 30 in plate armor, and then take 8 hits while they are wearing nothing but some mid tier armor, while others will hit you and do nothing and die in one or two shots while wearing full plate. It needs some work.

They also tend to block everything, countering is the only option most of the time, even then master strike is often the only thing they won't block anyway. And ranged is all but useless, even the heaviest cross bow won't kill in one shot and if they get to you, you may as well not waste any time and just reload your last save, because they will start an endless combo you can't do anything about until you're dead anyway.

I'd say overall, the game is a 8.5/10 even with the combat being a bit of a mess.

Fix the issues with the combat to make it make more sense, and make ranged not completely useless, and I'd say 9.5/10

If the other 2 DLCs are as limited as this one, this will not be worth the price at all

The game essentially requires 3 launchers. Steam, EA, and a web browser. You have to launch the game from a web browser....

And controller support, despite what the store page says, is trash. You cannot do QTEs with a controller, so you can only play about 2 minutes of the campaign before getting stuck in a death loop that you can't get out of with a controller.

Looks like I'll have to dig out my old 360 version to get a properly functional BF3 campaign.

Solo player review (its more fun with friends, if you can get them to play it).

The AI is just meh, they'll stand there and watch you get gunned down, but other times clear a room no problem. Enemy AI is psychic, this wasn't fun in shooters 30 years ago, its not fun now. You enter a room, and they will already have their gun trained perfectly on you and open up instantly.

You'd think "Well I have good reaction time and aim!" too bad, because it seems the game has a suppression effect that makes the bullets come out of your gun at upto 45 degree angles or something. I've damn near mag dumped an enemy at about 5 feet away (1.5 meters or so) while ADS and still not hit them, while my aim was on target the entire time.

There's an ok amount of missions, with more locked behind DLC. Some of them are fun, some of them are not. The buildings with maze like interiors I don't find fun, due to how slowly you move, there is no sprint, and moving slow like that is a waste of time since the enemy will always be aware of you entering the room in my experience, if if you're crouched,

Over half of my play time was back when my friends played, solo it just doesn't hold up for long. So I wish there was a neutral option, but since there isn't and I'm solo play only these days, its a negative.

I don't recommend at full price. and at least 50% off if playing solo.

This game deserves a mixed rating, even if most of the negative reviews are unfair. Not because of all the random non game related complaints but because the game is actually a mixed bag.

Any awd car is pretty fun to drive some issues here and there with weird physics or bad reset areas (will literally reset you while still having wheels on track in some spots). FWD cars are ok in general. But RWD cars make no sense half the time, its like the steering in them is 0 or 100% and no in between at times, they will snap over steer completely at random, at any % of throttle including 0. I don't find them in the least bit fun to drive except the really slow ones because you can actually correct them most of the time. Even then its like driving on a razor edge and not in a good, fun way. Glad real cars don't handle like this or I would have died many years ago and not even been here to write this review.

Aside from some crap RWD physics over a year on, and the game still has odd performance issues and bugs. Restart a race in career mode? Prepare to watch your hood flop around the whole time, even though you had no damage. Sometimes impacts will just not make sense, it will look like you miss something, and then a delayed impact will happen, like the game decided you didn't clear the object too late.

Also I randomly have the game fall to 20-30 FPS and get stuck in that range, when normally it'll be at 60, sometimes restarting the game is the only way to fix it, restarting the stage does nothing.

They have never added proper triple screen support despite marketing it at launch, VR support seemed ok to me, but a lot of people say they have problems with it. To be fair I haven't played with VR much and was using the ancient Oculus so maybe the much lower resolution made it run better.

Overall, this game has a ton of potention to be great, when everything is working correctly and you're not in a POS RWD car, this game is an absolute blast. But when it isn't or you're in a R3 RWD car that just snap over steers completely at random, its not fun at all.

So, I'll give it a thumbs up, for the parts that actually work and matter most (Jr WRC, WRC 2 and WRC (current cars). But I'll give it a "mixed" for the bugs and a thumbs down for RWD cars.

P.S. I shouldn't have to do a bunch of set up changes to make a car driveable. I have top 600 times in the WRC cars on default setups, RWD cars just ****ing suck.

Grapics are fine 8/10
Physics in awd/fwd cars are solid 8/10
physics in RWD cars is ass 1/10
career mode is decent 7/10

Overall 6/10
Overall without RWD cars 7.5/10

Wait for a sale.

Goated BF game.

Dice, just compy this game, but make it in a modern setting. Keep aircraft slow, and slow rockets down to balance it, and improve destruction, and you'll have the best BF ever made on your hands.

The idea of the game is decent, the execution frustrates me. I bet it would be more fun multiplayer, but I'm not interested in that. The AI cheats or something, I've sent forces bigger than theres in and been wiped out with close to half of their force still remaining.

Maybe I've missed something, but even with forge upgrades they basically walk through my troops. I don't find this sort of gameplay fun, especially when you then have to wait an eternity to reinforce.
