An rather disapointing game that is incredibley boring and not scary. And bad flaws in the game seems to be either overlooked.

Five nights at Freddy's is one of the most iconic games that there is out there. Probably the most ever iconic horror video game. But it seems to do an awful job at actually being scary. I feel like this game is massively overrated and the problems with this game is not brought up. If it wasn't for Youtubers like Markiplier, Pewdiepie, etc, this game would had only landed Scott the same result as chipper and Sons lumber co. If it was free i wouldn't be angry but it certainly isn't worth the 5 euro.

ALSO WHY IS IT CALLED FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S IF THERE IS 7 NIGHTS?

CONS:
  • This game defeats his main attempt at being scary. Around the first time ever playing this game you will get a kick out of this game and get scared, but after playing it for a while and getting to night 3, 4 , 5 this game is not scary, and the jump scares just become annoying at that point. And relied far too much on jump scares for any admission of horror compared to other horror games. Although there are a few creepy ambiance things added to the background. Youtubers like Markiplier afterwards most likely had ♥♥♥♥♥ getting scared to make the videos more interesting and kept its horror reputation going when in reality it isn't. Christ Luigi's mansion is more scary then this game.

  • Its very boring. Night 1, 2, 3 feels like im waiting hours for any of the animatronics to actually do something. On the first night alone Bonnie only comes to your door once. And asides from the animatronics moving from camera to camera, there isn't a lot happening in the cameras. Sometimes there will be a little easter egg like Golden Freddy but thats about it.

  • The game does start to heat up and get more harder in the night 4,5,6, but the entire game play is flawed. Watching the cameras does absolutely nothing in terms of gameplay, and the only camera your required to look at is foxy to make sure if hes gone or not. Making the whole system useless because you only need to flip it up and down to see if hes there or not. The game play is far too easy, all you do is hit a few door buttons, and doesn't at all much challenge to what your supposed to do.

Freddy is quite weird. Freddy is awkward for new players, asides from the amount of useless info phone guy gives you he gives you no clue about Freddy, in which you need to keep the door down at all times to make sure he doesn't enter the office. Because asides from that your in a guessing game of how he even gets into your office in the first place.

Foxy banging down your door and ramping out about nearly 10 percent of your power makes no sense. You can look at him in the cameras, but that isn't going to change if hes going to run for your office or not. Making players angry if he does because its then RNG, and losing all power.

  • Absolutely nothing else to do from looking at the cameras, or waiting for somebody to show up at the door. I felt like more things could had been added into this game. Something FNAF plus will be adding. Power meter dropping down is like watching paint dry.

  • More an nit pick, this game has quite a bit of technical issues that Scott should had came back and updated, from things like bad scaling, issues trying to tab out of the game on windows, and sometimes loading in 1280x720 instead of native resolution. Shame it also doesn't have native Mac, Linux, or BSD support.

PROS:

  • One thing that is under looked in this game is the visuals. They are quite good, and Scott managed to create some of the most iconic characters that there is, and the game has very little use of flat images. Scott has had always good game making visuals, and it was such a shame to see the visuals in ultimate custom night quite rushed.

  • As many flaws as this game has, it did inspire a huge community of fan games, which greatly improved the issues of the original FNAF and added countless amounts of new content onto it. So it has had a very important role of existing.

  • The 7th night is an interesting addition to the game, which does add for some replay ability into the game, and the infamous 20/20 mode.

  • It has an somewhat wiry and interesting ambiances and soundtrack. If Scott made them then props to him for it.

  • Something niche with how Scott developed this game (ignoring the technical problems i stated above) Because it feels oldish, like its straight out of something like 2008 or 2009, with how he made his trailers and some aspects in the game.I don't know if this is a good or bad thing but hey i feel awfully nostalgic. Even the font used on the front looks like something i
would see straight out of MS paint.

  • The power system does give players something to be concerned of. And is about the only real scary thing in the game, and putting more pressuring into the later nights into players. It is nice to see you get to the next night just 1 second before Freddy jump scares you.

A lot of people like to bring up this argument (BUT SCOTT IS JUST ONE PERSON, AN INDIE DEV, HE DOESN'T HAVE AN STUDIO OR TEAM!>!?!?) Just because one person made it doesn't mean its invincible to criticism. Obviously. When bad traits in the first game weren't recognized, the same carried over to FNAF 2, where again the camera system is nearly entirely useless which is important to realize. Surprised some cant understand that logic.

I don't have an issue with Scott allowing his Children to play test it, but thats the only people he allowed for it. Im not saying some nut job from mega corps should, but a bit mature friends of his should had tried it out before launch to give more different opinions on the game and perhaps if that was the case different aspects of it could had been changed.
But all in all, props to Scott for being an indie dev, its not an easy job, and where mistakes are made they are obviously corrected and that's why criticism is needed.

Its hard to put FNAF on something like 1 out to 10. But i would have to give it an 3/10.
