good game. anyone that has played PoE for any significant length of time already has their own opinion on it, so this review is for new players looking to get into the game, or that are currently struggling with it

new player experience is very unwelcoming, with lots of important mechanics that are very poorly explained, so even getting a character through the story can be a lot of trial and error. because of the unforgiving nature of PoE, trial and error in this case can sometimes mean making an entirely new character when you realize the one you've been leveling for hours isn't built properly. this, in my opinion, is the biggest weakness holding the game's growth back.

however, if you can push through and get past this and learn the basic mechanics of the game, it's extremely good and probably one of the best value free to play games out there. there's an unbelievable amount of content for a free game.

a lot of people make a ton of knee-jerk complaints about the game based on what the subreddit or their favorite streamer said about it, and if you are a new player looking to get into the game, just try to ignore those. while not all of those complaints are invalid, and i tend to agree with at least some of them, the vast majority of these complaints are, at the very least, completely irrelevant to anyone but the people who put thousands of hours into the game.

It works, the multiplayer works, it's free, it's pretty okay.
