[Reviewed for the Steam Grand Prix]

This is probably by far my favorite Rhythm game on Steam (and I still think there is a lack of good ones on here).

The game starts off easy which also fooled me, but the later unlocked songs are extremely hard on Master Difficulty.

You really just have 2 inputs, ground and air attacks but on later songs and difficulties some notes (monsters) come so rapidly that you are basically forced to use at least 2 inputs for the same action to click fast enough while it constantly switches from ground and air attacks.

But once you get the hang of it and get better it's a lot of fun.

I recommend it, especially for its cheap price. But I think you have to be at least half a weeb to enjoy the music (I always tell myself I'm not).

I usually don't write reviews but since this is such an amazing game, I am going to get to it right now. Keep in mind that most of the things I am going to mention are based on my opinion and mostly about the Tetris modes (not Puyo Puyo), so decide for yourself:

Gameplay 10 / 10
I haven't spent much time with the Puyo Puyo modes to give a good opinion about it (except from the story, and I suck at it). As for Tetris.. well it's Tetris and this game is probably one of the best Tetris experiences you're going to get. Default controls (which you can change). Clearing Tetris lines feels super satisfying, sound and visual popups for stuff like T-spins and Combos. Ability to hold onto blocks for later use and the next 5 upcoming blocks will be shown to you. It also uses a fixed algorithm that gives you at least one specific block every 7 blocks, so RNG shouldn't be a major reason anymore to screw you over.

Content 9 / 10
There are a great bunch of different modes for both Tetris and Puyo Puyo and you are not forced to play any of them if you just want to stick to a specific one (except for the story). All of them feel really stable and fun like the Swap mode, which switches between Puyo Puyo and Tetris in intervals, though I spend most of my time on the normal Tetris modes including Sprint (clear 40 Lines as fast as possible) and Marathon (clear 150 Lines with the highest score possible, also increases block fall speed the more lines you clear).

Design 9 / 10
The game has a really cute design. It has a big set of characters to play as, which doesn't affect gameplay at all, but on every Clear or Combo, each one of those have their specific animations and voice lines, which brings a lot of personalization into the game, especially in multiplayer. There is also an ingame store which lets you buy different looks for your blocks, alternative Voice Packs for the characters, etc. with the credits you earn ingame (this game has no microtransactions with real money at all, yay!) Keep in mind that the flashy animations and character design could be annoying to people who somehow don't have a tolerance to cute things.

Multiplayer 8 / 10
Creating a room to play against friends is really quick and easy and supports up to 4 players, and each player can choose individually to play either Tetris or Puyo Puyo (or the host locks it to one specific mode only). There is also a Competitive mode in which you can increase your ranking, but I haven't touched it myself yet in fear of getting crushed. The only negative things about this is that the mode can't be changed after a match and forces you to create a new room. One or more players failing to request a rematch in time also leads to this dilemma. Since the creating of a room is fairly quick, this isn't that much of a big deal.

Soundtrack 9 / 10
Nice variety of great tracks for the different modes, my favorites are Folktales from the Motherland (Tetris Theme Remaster), Fun Puyo Puyo Hell and Block by Block, Beat by Beat. I would've given this a 10 if it had the original Tetris theme. But I shouldn't complain, it would be weird if they didn't remaster the Tetris theme for a new game. Besides that, the sound files are very easy to replace, just slap the original theme in the game files and you're good to go.

Story 8 / 10
It's a Tetris game, so it's quite surprising that it has a story mode at all. It's a bunch of chapters with different Tetris / Puyo Puyo challenges with J-RPG like cutscenes and for being a Tetris game, I think the story is quite nice and funny. It also works very great as practice until you decide to play against others in Multiplayer.

Price 4 / 10
Okay, you might have looked at the price of this game and decided not to get it, and I understand. I agree that this game is quite overpriced for being a Tetris game. But considering how much effort has been put in the game and how well it works, I think it's 100% worth it to buy it during a sale at least.

Overall (price excluded) 9 / 10
So far, only one other person on my friendslist owns this game and she got it as a gift from me. I think a lot of people like Tetris and this is the best Tetris experience you can get on PC in my opinion, so therefore I think this game deserves a bigger playerbase. Like I said, get it when it's on sale, you won't be disappointed.
