One of the greatest games i have ever played 8/10
-AI 5/10 (it is horrible)
-multiplayer 9/10 (it is a great experience)
-mods 10/10 (the modding community is the best one i have ever seen, it fixes the game and adds so much content)
-DLC's 6/10 (they add new interesting scenarios to the game and make the base game interesting)
-community 9/10

if you dont have this game already, i highly recommend it

NEW review, 4 years later

Hearts of Iron is one of the, if not the, best strategy games out there. The developers still add content to this game. They may not be fast with updates, but content is regularly added to the game, If you like strategy games OR are interested in the time period, you most definitely will like this game.
A new problem with the game has risen though, in my eyes the game is still somewhat enjoyable without the DLCs especially if combined with great mods like Road to 56 (A mod that adds focus trees to all nations).
But I do believe that the game is enjoyed better with all dlcs this "problem" will only get bigger and bigger as the devs add more dlcs to the game.
tho keep in mind some dlcs add more then others.
Hearts of Iron IV is a no brainer to get in sales. if there is no sale at the moment of reading this, wait it out for a bit.
The game is best enjoyed with a group of (close) friends.
Now finally, my rating.

-AI 7/10 (They have improved it greatly through the years, but it is still not perfect.)
-multiplayer 9/10 (it is a great experience overall)
-mods 10/10 (the modding community is still active after all these years, i have even made some mildly popular mods myself. If you want to have something in the game I can almost guarantee there will be a mod for it.)
-DLC's 8/10 (Some dlc's are not that important, but in my opinion they are all of great importance and do infleunce the experience overal. the best thing is that only the host in MP needs the dlcs for all players to enjoy.)
-Community 7/10 (The greater hoi4 community has gotten a bit more toxic over the years, but it is still not bad.)

it is quite simpel the game runs AS LONG if you want BUT on 1948 you get a scorebord then you can choose, Go on or leave so you can go to 2100 if you like but it will take AGES

so it DOES end at some time? Can't it go on and on to 2100?

it can go on but starts lagging after a while, i dont exactly know the end i think it is like 1960 or something

One question: does te game end after war ends or does it keep going forever?
