Don't know how I haven't reviewed this game yet, since this game is literally the reason I made a steam account more than a decade ago, and it is still going strong! If you are one of the three people who do not already own the game, it is well worth it if you like sandbox adventure platformers with a touch of power fantasy. As of the time of writing, it is still being updated with its tenth or so definitely, no cap, absolutely last update(tm) soon to come out.

A great game to be playing instead of Cities 2 because my PC is too crummy to run the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ main menu. Can't wait for Cities 2 to be somewhat on par.

CS1 itself is really solid. There are great mechanics that have been introduced across the years like Parks, Campuses, Airports in DLC, which you can now get for relatively cheap. It is not particularly difficult, but there are a couple of ways to play introduced over time with Disasters and Snowfall. The game is not perfect since there are some annoying mechanics that limit you to being always somewhat car dependent/centric, mainly pocket cars and cims bunching in one lane, but you can learn to deal with it.

Overall, the game has mechanics that largely aged well, with a bunch of (now affordable) DLC. If you also include workshop content, you'll have many hours to spend playing this game.

Having just completed my first character in the creator, I can say with ease it's THE RPG.

Wait, it's more than just the character creator? Yes

The story telling is immaculate aside from very few dialogue inconsistencies arising from doing things in a weird order. All of the lines in the game are voiced (and boy do they deliver) for those that cannot be bothered reading. And to top it all off, there are at least two (maybe even three) wildly different stories you can experience based on your choices along the way. The main thing that left me a bit disappointed is that there wasn't a reunion at the camp with your (living) companions... Until Patch 5 introduced that just after I finished my playthrough :')

The graphics are everything you would expect from a AAA title in 2023, but make sure you're hard drive is up to the task unless you are OK with very slow texture loading upon fast traveling or entering a different area. I had a fossil of a GTX 970 and I still managed to play the game with very decent graphics at a very decent FPS, even in the last act.

The soundtrack does its job. It don't see it winning any awards or landing spots in many playlists, but it keeps you immersed while you slaughter a camp full of goblins.

Gameplay wise, it is basically 5e D&D but better with a boat load of equipment to customize your builds. I do sometimes wish there was more customization while leveling for whacky stuff like in DOS2 or more subclass options, but we'll have to wait for those. It is not a particularly difficult game, and your biggest hurdles will most likely be at the beginning, towards the end of Act 1 (ahem, the gith ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with extra attack)

Also, free content updates!

Some things I wish would be improved as of writing:
- The companions not following you sometimes after you jump, even though they can. Rarely, they break and won't follow at all unless they are the leader (looking at you Halsin)
- Tooltips in combat for ranged attacks saying you will hit an enemy, but resulting in a firebolt against a random wooden pillar in between the two of you
- The small dialogue inconsistencies I mentioned (so far exclusively in Act 3)
- Occasional delays that happen in between selecting and the character performing an attack or in between an attack hitting and the next in queue doing something

Most of these are rare though and probably dependent on my setup...

Dying has never been so fun!

DLC2 Update 2:
Looks like they fixed the majority of problems with the base game, so it's playable again!

In my opinion better than Magicka 2 simply because you can spam spells left and right and this ♥♥♥♥ storm is what makes playing Magicka 1 so fun. If you like spells, wizards, chaos, that kind of stuff this is your game!

Great sequel to Magicka 1, has the humour and the gore. The only thing I wish they didn't do is make cooldowns on spells you type out (not the focus/quick cast spells).

Yes I know this game is optimised like ♥♥♥♥, but during gameplay you don't really notice it, only during camera actions like zooming, etc and cutscenes like returning from a mission. I've also seen a lot of people complain about the timers, but you can easily remove them using mods. This is a very fun game and is definitely worth buying at a max price of €50 (or what ever your equivalent is), specially since most AAA titles are priced at €60. And it will most likely come with a free expansion thanks to the Long War devs.

This game is a MASTERPIECE! If all the game devs were like these the gaming community would be flawless. It had half the budget of GTA V and managed to make this! The world is HUGE. An easy 200+ hour experience. And has so many free DLCs which ADD to the game not FINISH it. I'd love to see some more regions from the books, e.g: Cintra or Brokilon.
