What do you mean, balance? This isn't that kind of game.

The difficulty spike being vertical is a feature.

Imagine if you will, a game, where shooting yourself in the head may be the correct option. Jokes aside, this is well designed cosmic horror. Not what you'd lovecraftian-lite. Yahtzee knows how to design things effectively, and this is a massive example.

Along the shore the cloud waves break,
The twin suns sink beneath the lake,
The shadows lengthen, in Carcosa.

Strange is the night where black stars rise,
And strange moons circle through the skies,
But stranger still is, lost Carcosa.

Songs that the Hyades shall sing,
Where flap the tatters of the King,
Must die unheard in, dim Carcosa.

Song of my soul, my voice is dead;
Die thou, unsung, as tears unshed,
Shall dry and die in, lost Carcosa.

Early Access Review
SmoothBrainDev dared to ask very simple questions: Do you like bodyhorror and industrial hellscapes? Do you ever wonder if "What if Quake 2 but had the atmosphere of Quake 1?" Nah, that's not quite right, but it's how I'd pitch it if I had to. Incision is a game that just gets itself right. Good and well thought out shooter, soundtrack, and worldbuilding intertwined with industrial tinged cybernetic horrors and flesh.

It feels like Quake, and that really is a compliment here. The guns feel like guns, the monsters feel like monsters, the world feels like the end. The soundtrack ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks you in given the opportunity. iNi isn't far off. I enjoy myself some Nine Inch Nails and banged my head to the industrial mess that is the soundtrack. The whole game is just exactly what it wants to be, what it needs to be, what it can be.

Welcome to Incision. Welcome to the End. What it could be.

Essentially, the opening to Fallen London no one asked for but is still a good idea. I'd advise this as an introduction to the weirdness of the setting, to be felt and read as you would begin the browser game. I have no professional opinion, it's a fine story so far, it's a fine setup so far, and you can ignore the dating sim aspects for the most part. I'm not here for the dating sim parts, I'm here for the mystery. Romance is the core of the setting, but not the only reason to experience it.

"To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand the basic mechanics of a Project Moon game."

A year in and still accurate. Most games have a wall of difficulty you have to scale. Most games have a filter that separates people who know how to play a game, and people who don't. Every canto is a wall, every canto is a filter. You either figure out the game or you don't. The difficulty spike being vertical is a feature of Project Moon games.
