Like a Dragon Gaiden is what I would call, Yakuza lite. It has all of the things that you would expect from a Yakuza game, but in very small quantities, such that I believe it would be a great introduction to anyone new to the series, it has minigames, substories, an epic boss song and an epic boss battle, it has easier to obtain achievement lists and a simplified ability tree.

It has everything you know, just a lot less of that everything. So to keep this punctual and help you make your mind up, here's some points about the game!

- Numerous minigames make their way back into the Yakuza series, Shogi, Mahjong, Koi Koi, Oicho Kabu, Golfing, Sega Arcade and more

- The Completion list is shorter than usual and not tied to achievements, making a 100% significantly faster than before

- The normal Yakuza series averages 12-13 Chapters of story, sometimes even more. This game only has 5 chapters of Story

- The events of this game happen at the same time as Like A Dragon's story about Ichiban Kasuga, if you do care about the overarching plot, it's still worth playing that title first

- Classic Yakuza combat with an albeit simplified 2-style system.

- Only a couple of boss-fight cutscenes in this one sadly.

- Despite being connected to Ichiban Kasuga's story, this is the classic Action RPG style, not the JRPG Style they used for that game.

- Great music

- Only some comedy

- Substories rework here falls very flat for me, lost a lot of the charm and personality.

I'm a die-hard fan, and I do not regret this purchase, however this is definitely a Yakuza game where I think "wait for a sale" is a justified stance to take. It has all the things I love about this series, just not enough of it. It left me wanting more by the end instead of feeling exhausted like I'd been taken on an intense, emotional journey.

First Yakuza game in the series to not make me cry.

Good game though.

Where it all began.

A worthy trip for Nostalgia's sake, I suppose!

A very fun little game absolutely full of references for the Horror Aficionado, World of Horror combines some of the stat mechanics and core game-play of Board Games like Eldritch Horror and Mansions of Madness with more straightforward, simplified RPG mechanics.

The game-play loop is straightforward, Pick A Character > Pick A Difficulty > Pick A Background > Pick A Timeline > Pick An Eldritch Abomination > Stop the Eldritch Abomination by completing 5 mysteries.

However there's a lot of variance, with each character having a unique set of abilities, timelines having different endings available, Eldritch Gods having different, unique ways of punishing you and backgrounds offering their own spin on a challenge. The Randomise button is your friend if you crave truly limitless replay-ability.

The mysteries have multiple endings depending on the actions you take whilst investigating the mysteries as well, meaning if you truly want to go full collectathon, the options here are numerous.

The music in the game is great, it offers a real ominous feel and adds to the depth of spookiness the game wants you to feel without breaking this old retro-aesthetic charm that the game has going on for itself.

There are over 90 in-game achievements for you to obtain as well! A real shame they're not integrated with Steam, but the desire to collect them will create many unique scenarios for you as well.

A good game for both horror and RPG enthusiasts, and some of the board game like elements may also appeal.

Love this game!

It's a very difficult, resource management game. You must sustain the lives of a small settlement of villages, with up to three species in a settlement and each species having its own needs and requirements, you have to carefully plan around your expansions, especially when expansions come with great risks.

The game is actively being worked on at the time of the review, with new features and improvements being added semi-regularly and the whole title is full of love and charm. Each species has their own voice, models, building-style.

It's difficult to get your head around at first, but is so endlessly re-playable and incredibly fun you can easily sink a day into your settlement.

The actions each settlement takes will affect approval, both positively and negatively, max out your positive approval for the win, max out your negative approval for an embarrassing defeat!

Lastly, the sound design is charming without fault, the changing of the seasons comes with a comforting musical cue, the music itself is almost serene and beautiful whilst the storm phase feels overbearing and intimidating.

A great experience of game, with a good balance between challenge and fun.

This game is wild, wacky, zany and yet...

A lot of fun?

The game follows an old, gladiatorial concept. You are a young aspirant from one of many randomly assigned backgrounds who fights to fulfil a unique goal; From currying favour with nobles, getting elected or just outright kill-counts, each identity will put its unique spin on your experience, with boons and banes that vary depending on the background you come from. My personal favourite being the politician who is just... universally hated.

There are a few resources to manage, fame and gold whilst also managing pleasing the crowd whilst you're in combat. Equipment is complex and breakable, so you have to also maintain your health, your gear durability and your training to improve your skills.

As you get more famous, the combat gets harder (go figure)

Now for the combat... It's a loveably jank take on the combat system used in Mount & Blade, and it is charmingly hilarious to play around with. Whilst appearing purely comical at first, the combat does become incredibly nuanced, especially as your enemies get better equipment although throwing weapons is an art of science I've yet to master.

This game is funny, it's a good time, and most certainly a labour of love.

I enjoy it greatly.

Do you like Deckbuilders?

Do you like Difficult games?

Do you like having to strategise?

Do you like great stories?

Do you like incredible music?

Do you like fleshed out character design?

If you answered yes to any of the above, then you're probably going to like Library of Ruina. Library of Ruina throws us back into the dystopian world outlined in Lobotomy Corporation with a twist. We're no longer managing a Corporation, we are now a Deckbuilding Librarian Badass.

That's right, we're a Deckbuilder now and Mr Bones' Wild Ride doesn't stop there, Library of Ruina features a very simple concept for you as a player, invite people from outside the library into the library and turn them into books via a 'Reception' (Kill 'em ded).

Yet despite this simple concept, you're forced to look at the world around you, you'll find characters you care about and feel a pang of guilt as you kill them, you trudge through multiple areas of grey unsure of how you feel whilst sometimes getting immensely satisfied at finding a horrible character to wail on instead.

This new format allows the game to really go into detail, explaining E.G.O., Abnormalities and the world in so much more depth, and the Abnormality conflicts themselves become a phenomenal jump in difficulty, becoming more like puzzles than straight up fights.

Between the charming art-style, great story telling and fun but difficult gameplay, you'd think I'd be stopping there! But no, it also has to be said that Library of Ruina has some of the best music I've played in a game, the songs are great with an ever-increasing sense of urgency as you progress only to be derailed by some unsettlingly calm and beautiful piece. They know what they're doing with composition here, and it really adds to the over all experience of the game.

This game is hard, it will punish you, it will expect you to learn

But it accurately reflects the story it wants to tell.

Absolutely recommend this game

Is it worth playing HD in the world of DE?

Yes, actually.

Whilst it is completely fair to say and accept that DE offers a great deal of quality of life upgrades, including improved hotkeys, revamped graphics, clearer sounds and regular balance patches, there is still something beautiful about going back a step and seeing what it was like, experiencing how things were.

"So this is pure nostalgia then?" I hear you claim!

Whilst Nostalgia plays a heavy, heavy part in why I love this game, it shouldn't have to play a part in why you can love this game, the older graphics have a sense of charm to them, something that is pleasant to look at even without years of experience.

But above all else, Modding! This game is heavily modifiable, and has been heavily modded by a dedicated community for many, many years. This flexibility in a game can help you craft and create it into what you want it to be, and this is a great and enjoyable experience. There are hours upon hours of things you could do, and all it takes is a creative mind to see it done.

Lastly, Achievement Hunters! Have no fear, do not be intimidated by the excessive looking achievements, they are as old as the game, and farm-able quite rapidly through the use of the scenario system, with a full community approved guide on how to do so!

A masterclass in fear, this game is a take on Phasmophobia that actually managed to pull me away from the iconic Ghost Hunting game onto this one. The game still uses a lot of the same uneasy-environment techniques that have you uncomfortable the whole time, with a lot more unpredictability added in to stop the game being too routine.

And Jump scares.

But these aren't your cheap overdone JPEG jump scares, but careful, well thought-out jump scares with enough rarity in their occurrences that just when you start to feel safe BAM, hospital gurney chases you down the halls. There are a number of spooky interactions, with jump scares or ghostly happenings being linked to one of the following:

- Drops in Sanity
- Randomly Happening
- Entering a specific area
- Looking at something too long
- Saying a specific word
- Death

With all of these triggers happening, although you know there are some jump scares, you're never sure when they're going to come, so this keeps you delightfully easy while you perform standard ghost-hunting faire.

Pros:

- The game gives you enough items for 2 people to complete a hunt without adding anything, so easy to bring a friend and show them around
- With the different ghosts, there is replay-ability
- The variance in events is wide enough it takes a long time before it even begins to feel samey
- Maps added reasonably regularly
- High levels of customisation, spend your money on a house, a cat and clothes to make your hunter unique
- Creative approaches to exorcising ghosts differs from map to map

Cons:

- Surviving the ghost is quite hard
- Items are very expensive compared to what you earn
- Sometimes you just 'get ♥♥♥♥♥♥'
- ESG evidence, y'all will learn

That said, I love this game, and actively enjoy playing it with friends. If you have at least one other friend to play this with, you simply must give it a try.

Without getting caught up in the overwhelming hype, It's... alright.

The game lacks the absolute variance of its predecessors, but comparatively it's still an exceptionally open game. Scope and ambition shine through the game in ample measure, but that often leads to a number of situations where the game feels rough around the edges. Amelia Tyler does a fantastic job as your narrator and speaking to you in a kind of, disapproving mother way.

Baldur's Gate 3 is not perfect, when putting aside the hype and initial excitement, there are plenty of flaws that stop it being a guaranteed must have, and there's no shame in people saying it's not for them.

With that said, this game is fun, the writing is entertaining for a couple of playthroughs, and of course the ability to play with friends makes for some great and chaotic scenarios. The overall design starts great but showly shrinks to become more stifling as the playthrough progresses.

If you have a group of friends to play this with, I highly recommend it.
If you just want to play an RPG that leans more into the TTRPG elements than the JRPG elements, I highly recommend it.
If you just want to die in a bunch of weird inexplicable ways, I highly recommend it.
If you want to collect some fair achievements while on an adventure, I highly recommend it.
If you want to engage with writing that has a sense of humour, I highly recommend it.
If you're that guy who "likes" the narrator voice, I highly recommend it.

If you're looking for a perfect, flawless, bugless, glitchless, clipless game without faults, then you should look elsewhere, this ain't it.

Gnosia is an unbelievably fun Visual Novel style game about surviving on a ship with Gnosia infectees using a Werewolf-style mechanic. The crew must find the Gnosia, the Gnosia must eliminate the crew with each phase taking the shape of 5 conversation-type interactions and then a vote. You can defend allies, call out enemies or even betray your collaborators.

Each of the Crew have their own personality and discussion style, be it Raqio's purely logical approach, Yuriko's ruthlessness or Shigemichi being... well... Shigemichi. Meaning you have to truly know and understand the characters you're on the ship with to be able to read them for deception.

There is story, with a wide variety of loop endings depending on both what roles you had, who survived and what actions you took, with plenty to do to unlock the mystery of the characters within.

The art style is nice, characters are visually distinct and whilst I could've done without Comet's underboob, it really isn't a focus of the game.

Gnosia is exceptionally fun and really rather well made. The achievements are also not obnoxious, and I personally had a lot of fun with this.
