Are you tired of getting scammed by EA hype year after year?

Ready to break the Stockholm cycle and leave your abuser?

Try Axis Football.

This is my first year purchasing this series and it is right on the cusp to being a true contender to Madden, which it has to be compared to for obvious reasons, and in some ways already is. Let me list the pros for you:

Best Franchise mode I've played since Madden 2008. And I've only played an hour. I could have honestly made that statement within 10 minutes of starting the game though. I have actual coaches with stats? I have scouts with proficiency and position focuses? I can manage my team facilities? And EA's big franchise improvement this year was a scouting update that isn't even in the game out of the box? Give me a break.

Price: $30, Go buy another great game like Hades and a pizza with those sweet savings.

Huge amount of customization. If you like to make your own team, design the uniforms, etc. Here's where you're going to want to do it.

Sort of following the previous point this game is very moddable which, with some community help, allows for NFL, NCAA, and any other football leagues you can think of.

You don't have to give your money to EA for a roster update. Always a pro in my book.

Active community: Check

Engaged Developers that interact with the community transparently, listen to feedback, have a plan and vision for the perfect football game, and don't try to trade your grandmother's teeth for a shiny gold 99OVR Micheal Vick Card that will be useless next generation: Check, Check, Check, Check.

Nuetrals:
On-Field Gameplay is pretty similar to an older 2000s madden, if a little bit behind. Do I personally like it? Yes. The jagged edges here and there don't bother me a bit. Is it going to be what everyone wants? Not necessarily. But the dev team has been very clear that the next three installments will make leaps and bounds in this area as a No. 1 focus so we are still getting there.

Cons:
Slight bugs because, well, it's a small studio. But if this turns you off to this game then boy are you going to be disappointed by Madden 22.

The Glitz and Glam of Madden isn't there. No un-skippable celebrations after every 5 yard run. Graphics are better than Madden 22 cut scenes, but definitely not as good as the on-field graphics of Madden. You can look at the pictures on the store page and compare.

No out-of-the-box real teams. It will take a minor effort to install NFL or NCAA mods.

Overall: I definitely recommend this game. Support a smaller dev studio that actually cares about the community and the growth of the game. Stick it to EA for putting out the same game year after year. Get back to good ol' Franchise goodness. Did I mention it is HALF the price of Madden? Oh and you can play NFL and NCAA rosters (with community mods), one of which an alternative doesn't even exist to, with this game. If you are a football fan and like good games, just go ahead and give it a try.

I know people have alot of issues with the game. But I thoroughly enjoyed it. I only purchased the base game but do not regret my purchase.

A good game for the non DMC series fanatic (And if you are then you are probably off cursing Ninja Theory and Capcom somewhere on a message board in japan). Most of the negativity for this game comes from previous DmC fans who absolutely refuse change. I have personally been playing Dmc since the original (have a copy in my desk right next to me :cwat:) The only one I haven't played is 2. That being said yeah, It's different, but it is truly an enoyable hack n' slash action game.

Pros:
-Surprisingly decent storyline, Not Squeenix quality... But good enough.

-Combat: Good 8/10, It has a wider range of weapons that can be used creatively and fit better to a play style resulting in enjoyable combat. I have my complaints some of them being that the devil trigger is now a next to useless feature and the guns are even less effective as combat tools as they were... be that as it may, the melee combat is superb.

-Gameplay: 7/10 Above average, The smooth gameplay is ridged with average linear level design giving you deja vu 20 times before the end of the mission, and the difficulty is definitely easier (I remember the days when you had to work to get the double jump ability), but overall the gameplay is nice and the interaction and dynamics of the levels make it a positive experience.

-Art: 8.75/10 Goodish Great, Grafitti is not really my style, however the art was fantastically done. Much brighter than past games and much more colorful. While some people like the pure gothic artistry of old, I prefer not to stare at grey walls for an entire 31 hr story based game. In game graphics are good quality.

Cons

-Character Development: Let's just say this dante, while at times can have good character enlightenment, is mostly a 15 year old kid who just filled out his profanity lexicon. The "bad boy" theme is way too overdone to the point that it is a pile of swearing and rude gestures on top of an ego obssessed frat boy. I found myself more interested in the development of the side/main character Kat. I'm not going to start on Virgil because spoilers however potential was lost.

Middle Ground:

-Music: While not my choice, there was still some death metal battle themes and that's all I expected.

tl;dr It's a good game, pick it up on a sale for some good old fashion hack n' slash fun

This is a review from a previously non Tomb Raider fan. (To clarify it's not that I thought the games were bad, I just never got into them.)

The reboot of Tomb Raider from Suare Enix (one of my favorite dev studios) went above and beyond all expectations I had going in.

Storyline: The storyline is surprisingly engaging. Breaking from the past tradition of raiding tombs with an overall background storyline, in this TR the storyline is prominent to the point that the game can be said to be story driven. I love it when a game takes the time to develop the story and this story was interesting in several areas: Historical, Thrilling, and even a little catharsis, the list goes on. Sorry if this is a little vague but I'm trying to avoid spoilers for the not yet owner. Overall the story was excellently done and is one of the few current titles that I'm so excited for a sequel that I would pre-order.

Gameplay: The mechanics of this TR are well done but can be frustratingly difficult. The puzzles are too frequently too simple and the action sommands a little sticky. That being said, there were parts that I spent hours on and were rather difficult. These challenging areas were reminiscent of the hard games of the past. Current titles are now too easy to breeze through and favoring quantity of quality. TR exhibits that you don't truly know a game until you've spent three hours trying to get a collectible artifact all the while getting progressively angrier until whatever you were doing finally works. To me these made the game so much more enjoyable, but if you don't like a challenge you should consider quitting and picking up a copy of CoD instead.

Action: This is seperate from gameplay because it is an aspect of it's own that ran a middle of the road approach. The combat can be easy or hard. Similar to splinter cell, the objective is to be sneaky, silent, and deadly; however, if you want to go in guns blazing they do give you the equipment to do that. The bow mechanic in my opinion works particularly well and was my favored choice of weapon as it is the silent killer. However, you do get grenade launchres, assualt rifles, and other devices to ensure you're a full fledged commando. Lara can die, but not easy, similar to CoD health regen, she can gain back life after a short period of time, allowing for prolongued fights or a big boss battle. Lara is not invincible however and can take three hits at most without dying.

Art: The visuals are stunning, and not just detail wise. The graphics are nitty gritty to emphasize lara's survivability and the amount of danger she is in. The also are realistic, not giving the impression that she is in a fantasy world but truly stranded on an island. The scale of the world is massive even though it is an island, with large scaling cliffs and deep valeys the terrain is ever variable.

Overall: I picked this game up on sale for 10$ not knowing what to expect, and I regret not picking it up for sixty when it came out. For the new comer it is a standalone story that is easily immersive. If you're looking to get into the TR series without playing all of the first ones, this is the way to do it.
