A great sequel to the original, and it feels (almost) like SimCity 4's successor.

CityState is a city management & simulator with politics placed eloquently into the mix. You manage your city's police forces, fire stations, education centers, hospitals, park systems & traffic grid while finding a great balance between your nation's policies, how they affect the populace with a budget that needs to stay in the black.

And there is a lot to balance to maintain homeostasis and growth. The game mechanics prevent you from thoughtlessly placing residential, industrial & commercial zones and clicking fast forward. Your tax rates, border policies, and speed of growth must be carefully handled—otherwise your city will end up in flames like many of my own have. And watch out for another 9/11. Planes will hit skyscrapers if they're too close to the airport!

All in all, this is a blast. 15 hours in, and I've nearly perfected the balance of a Libertarian Utopia. This game at 15 hours in does leave a bit to desire, however. In retrospect, when I had 15 hours into SimCity 4, its talons were gripping my heart and an addiction was brewing.

In its current state, I believe it should be early access. More buildings need to be added, the policies need to have a greater effect on the city (allowing private schools, for example, does NOT change the amount of students in public schools), road building could use some polishing, a master slider to adjust capacity of public services, an improved chart system & statistics (SimCity 4 had that ♥♥♥♥ perfected), and so much immersion is left to be desired! It needs more complexity (running a socialist state or dictatorial state just doesn't have any benefit or fun to it in it's current form, and being able to have different nations next to each other would add a lot of replay value). Maybe it would benefit from storylines and challenges, too. It feels a bit empty at its core.

I would still purchase this game knowing what I know now, however. The dev is updating every few days and very responsive to feedback, bug reports and suggestions.

Let's pray modding becomes available soon, too, when appropriate.

Wow! Lots of fun. 6 hours flew by seamlessly.

This is a great mixture of The Sims & house flipping games.

You begin out doing odd jobs of renovation and building up your cash until you can buy your own apartment to fix up and rent out. When you rent out your properties, you get to choose the tenants! Being the landlord, you answer to their beckoning calls (or not).

While you are managing your properties, you can take on more tasks of renovating and/or various landlord work (such as looking out for another landlord's tenants or helping another landlord rent a property).

It's a lot of fun, and it requires a good amount of multitasking!

Great mixture of design, finance, management and simulation.

Great competitive economic simulator—you can gain victories through multiple strategies such as esponiage, monopolization or just straight wits. I am a huge fan of economic and management games and I recommend this 100%/

Can't win as a Conservative. Win every time as Bernie Sanders... Even Gary Johnson can't stop me!

Great political simulator and pretty challenging. Would recommend to anyone remotely interested in politics.

My God... This game is just absolutely phenomenal! If you were a fan of SimCity 4 or any of the previous ones and were let down by the newest SimCity disaster—please, give this game a try. This game is everything that SimCity [5] should have been! It runs great on my integrated graphics card and flawlessly on my dedicated graphics card. The gameplay is amazing and I have yet to run into any bugs (few hours in so far).

I feel like I will be losing much sleep playing this..., and as a college student I should be worried, but I am PROUD!

Mini Metro is simple in nature but complex in the whole scheme of things. I like to turn on some relaxing music and play this game; I have already put quite a few hours in the game and the replay value is ... great. Buy it.

Oh. Your. God. This game is brilliant! Not only are the controls simple, but... it is actually one of the funnest games I've played in a while. I have already lost a few night's sleep to play this game just ONE more time (ok, maybe five, but still). I was able to get the DLC and the game for $.99, but somehow... I feel like it is worth nearly $15, and I would definitely consider paying that amount considering the entertainment and replay value of The Binding of Isaac.

If you don't know if you want this game, let me decide for you: BUY IT OR DIE.

This game is OK; if you are into tycoon(ish) & games similar to this, you will probably enjoy it for a little. To be honest, it feels a little basic, clunky and outdated, but it does make for some fun. It is relatively easy as well, and not difficult at all to grasp what is taking place. I would recommend this to someone who takes up a lot of interest in the idea of the game, but do not hold your breathe or hope for any miracles. I appreciate the effort and time it took to create the game, and it is fun (for a bit), but there is room for improvement.

I have probably put over 100 hours in this game. I bought it from the Windows Store sometime around Dec~Jan '13, and have been playing ever since (recently got my Steam key).

This game is exactly what it seems like - a game developer simulation + tycoon, but it is truly so much more. Initially, you begin your game company in your garage. From there, you begin to make a name for yourself. Your fledgling game company is able to become a multi-million dollar corporation!

When developing games, you tweak and control the focuses of the game (engine / gameplay / stories & quests... level design / artifical intelligence / dialouge... etc). From there, you choose what technology you want put into it -- 2D or 3D graphics, mono vs stereo sound, etc. As you progress, you are able to research more and a variety of technologies, and different game genres - like racing and government.

This isn't a half-minded game. Personally, I put quite a bit of thought into each game I create on here and what direction I am taking my company! I've had numerous starter-companies get so far and end up bankrupting themselves... It is survival of the fittest, or at least of the funnest!

A LOT of effort was put into the development of this game, and I love it. It's quirky; it's fun. It is different and captivating for what it is. If you are considering purchasing the game, I would 100% recommend it. After the probably over 100 hours I've put into Game Dev Tycoon, the entertainment has never lessened.

Good luck and try to develop that BLOCKBUSTER game!

One word that sums this game up - "interesting", but a little bland.
It's almost a world similar to George Orwell's "1984".

To sum it all up, you're a character working at the border patrol for a dystopian and authoritative country. Each day, you decide who goes through, mostly based upon if they have the right documents or not. Making a wrong decision can be horrific, resulting in a terrorist attack (probably an inside job); as time progresses, the requirements for entering the country skyrocket. Sometimes letting people through is a question of morale - perhaps they forgot one document and their visa expires the next day... do you risk your job performance for another man's happiness?

One thing that is unique with Papers, Please is the various endings your game can have.

For being what it is, this game is alright. I would recommend it, but I wouldn't recommend it over a lot of games. It's a little quirky, quite dark, and you might be wandering what the hell you are doing on it... but at least you're entertained.
