Early Access Review
Many of the issues in the negative reviews have already been resolved by the devs, namely the low fps and unskippable cutscenes. In addition there are a number of incorrect assumptions, such as people believing the heal skill doesn't work on yourself (It self applies when used to ground slam)

The game is certainly still rough, with a lot of unpolished edges. However the devs are being extremely proactive in addressing issues and actively seeking out community feedback. Perhaps most importantly is that the core of the game is a lot of fun, and there is a ton of potential in the game itself.

Combat is fairly streamlined, and what clutter does exist is mostly in the form of bugs with certain input combinations, not an issue with the combat itself. Certain skills feel weak or strong compared to others, and there is a lack of enemy types, but these are all things that one can expect to be addressed, rather than being flaws in the combat system itself.

The game is early access and certainly shows it, but it has all the foundations to be an excellent game so long as the devs continue to polish it.

Okay, so Furi is a game I have fairly mixed feelings about: Some very good, some very bad. I suggest reading through and deciding yourself if the game is a good fit for you.

So to preface: Furi is a bullet hell high action game with some pretty demanding reflexes. It has a (from how far I got) fairly interesting, though confusing and questionable, story and a pretty strange mix of graphics which I will cover below.

So I enter the game and am immediately disappointed. After seeing the comments about amazing graphics everything I was initially shown was very rough and unpolished. A short time later I got into the actual fights though which are far more interesting and well done. All the cutscenes have pretty lackluster models and animations (especially the character's walk) and while the terrain was both interesting and decently done the only thing that really held the cutscenes together were the camera angles. There was some amazing camera angle work in these shots and I love them. Unfortunately they are tied into one of the things I hate most about this game.

So they cutscenes aren't truly cutscenes, you still have to walk through them which would be fine if the character controlled well. Unfortunately the character continues to control based on the same directions as the original camera shot of the scene. Kinda immersion breaking when I am walking along these twisting pathways that curl through the sky and am trying to remember whether the down button will move me forward or to the left.

Frankly they should be turned into "hold forward to progress" or just straight up cutscenes. They were my big initial issue with what was turning into a pretty fun game.

-------------------------------------------------

So, out of combat nitpicks out of the way what was the actual gameplay like? Well the game is composed of a series of bossfights, each VERY unique and interesting. There was of course some frustration, I don't claim to be a great reflex or bullet hell player, but I can beat Sans fairly consistently and consider that good enough to progress through similar games slowly if nothing else. Parry windows are laughably short when you consider both the CD and that there is both a parry and a perfect parry window. This was initially very frustrating as you don't parry when you see the enemy swinging at you, you have to parry part way through the attack or the parry runs out first.

So in order to parry bosses you basically need to learn the separate timings on each attack of each boss as well as the number of attacks (and timings of each) you need in case you don't perfect parry. Kinda sucky, but you can actually beat a number of bosses without ever parrying so I dealt with it.

The actual bosses were some of the most interesting fights, and while each had their share of annoyances (I swear those lasers clip through the edges of walls) their kits weren't overly toxic or frustrating. My two main gripes are a) Camera distance adjust based on distance to boss, this messes up distance based timings and I wish I could disable it. The other is that the dash moves you towards your cursor rather than based on WASD movement. It took me hours to get myself out of the habit and I really wish I could toggle this option since I already have to use the cursor to aim my shots.

Unfortunately my run came to a standstill on the 4th? 5th? boss. Some poison themed toxic guy. Interesting fight, some pretty cool if easy to avoid projectiles. However when it came to the melee range parts I hit a wall. His AOE attacks come out in about half the time of the other bosses and hit everything except a very tiny area. You then have to dodge two of these in a row successfully to get a chance to counterattack. Alternatively you have to learn the parry timing on his 5? attack combo or pray for a perfect parry so you can counter.

I could do it, sure. Do I want to invest the time into it? Not really. The bosses are cool, time guy was a blast and really neat. Art & Story is decent, walking around the cutscene areas is hell, and now that I am stuck facing the least interesting of every boss so far I am good calling it quits. $10 decently spent, probably gonna downvote the game because I really hate games that ruin themselves when they have something good going.

If you have great reaction speeds then you will probably enjoy this a bit more. If you aren't amazing but enjoy interesting bosses I might suggest picking this up when it is on sale. Wasn't a waste of time by any means, hopefully the devs fix some of the more irritating issues and controls. (Also worth noting there is an easier story mode but I never tried it, just not my thing.)

Hope this helps

An absolutely beautiful game that at no point fails to deliver. Lovely visuals and an engaging story are backed up by some very interesting gameplay with a high level of customization.

The unique approach to difficulty settings is very well done as well, instead of enemies simply becoming more difficult you can voluntarily pick and choose from a wide range of penalties as you level up in exchange for a small experience boost.

While relatively linear there are a couple small areas you can explore as well as a massive host of commentary about the world if you interact with everything. Speaking of commentary your companion throughout the game is now one of my favourite examples of a well done side character and commentator rolled into one. His words add a ton of flavor to the world as you travel around and his in combat commentary is kept minimal to avoid distractions. Other than his in combat quotes I don't think I ever heard him say the same thing twice either.

The game is amazing from the beginning to the end and I would highly recommend it. Relatively short overall, I beat the entire thing in about 7 hours, but I was riveted the entire time and will probably be playing through again in the future to try out some different playstyles.

So my two friends and I were looking for a new game to play and one of them found Vindictus. We ended up quitting after a day spent making fun of it, but a bit later two of us decided to give it another chance. After a little bit more playing we began to realize that the game was actually pretty damn cool. We quickly dove further into it and while we aren't at end game content yet, we have thoroughly enjoyed our time playing.

The initial start is pretty boring, and there is more than a bit of dialog to get through, but the game ramps up pretty quickly if you are willing to invest at least 2-3 hours into it, which is honestly pretty low for an MMO.

The general world graphics are somewhat meh, although the characters, particles, and boss cutscenes are all quite good. A lot of the purchasable content is available through the market/via 30 day packages and while it isn't cheap, if you are willing to take the hit every month you can definitely look nice for in game currency, the IRL pricing of stuff isn't horrible either.

Gameplay starts off a bit stale, and depending on your class it can stay that way, but most of the classes have a lot of hidden depth to them. Boss fights are actually really cool and are some of my favourite to date.

The maps are honestly amazing. I wish the traps were actually dangerous instead of just giving a love tap but getting chased down a hill by falling pillars or running up a thin tunnel with massive rocks rolling down is really cool. As with any MMO the zones can get a bit repetitive but you swap areas frequently enough that it doesn't get too bad. A common theme is for you to progress further into the same map over and over, so you do get to see new stuff pretty frequently.

The story isn't garbage. I am sure some people enjoyed it quite a bit, but I find myself holding to speed up button quite often. Dialog can be quite long from time to time but there is a button next to your quests you can hit so that you at least don't have to wander around town to get to each person. The Light vs Dark path bit is pretty cool though.

Audio, I don't notice it a ton, the tracks don't really stand out to me, but it also isn't ever disruptive. Solid if not amazing.

Misc: The game can be a bit buggy on occasion, but my friend and I only really ever ran into a major bug once, so I wont bash them too hard. Servers will be slow on occasion too, but it also isn't too bad. The game is filled with various jokes and references if you pay attention with is pretty great, and the creators definitely get points for the love put into the game. Stairs that partially break if you hit them too hard, dogs that follow you around, and ofc throwing anything and everything.

Plenty of people will find things in the game that bug them but that is true for every game. Personally I would suggest at least giving it 5 hours of your time, it's free after all. Would and do recommend.
