The Walking Dead Review…

So… I might as well get this out of the way with first… I cried, I don’t give a sh*t if it isn’t ‘manly’ I don’t fu*king care, I cried more than once… Now that I’ve push my manly insecurities aside, I shall endeavour to continue the review lol.

Normally, I tend not to focus on the negatives first as I don’t want to give the wrong impression straight away and potentially taint a new buyers opinion but there was one… Kinda annoying? Issue? There seems to be a slight lag. I counted it every 3 seconds, so the gameplay would be fine for 3 seconds then you’ll experience a 0.5 second lag, which doesn’t sound terrible by any means, but it can be the difference between life and death. I’ve only ever noticed this lag with one other game which was ‘Dead Space 2’ which almost stopped me playing the game immediately, but I’d definitely recommend pushing through it was it doesn’t become as noticeable as you progress and become more engrossed in the story. I’m not sure if it’s the port or the fact that it’s a 9-year-old game but whatever. I did attempt to lower the graphics options but no dice, it could be because I was playing at 1080p and should have lowered the resolution some more? But I would play a game at any lower than 1080p anyway but if you can then it might fix the issue.

Camera angles during gameplay can be an issue too but you can definitely get past that I kind of reminded me of Resident Evil 1 for the first PlayStation, you’ll understand what I mean when you play it.
I will say your movement/walking speed is DEFINITELY problematic! You can’t run…at all. This doesn’t sound terrible but can piss you off when you know how to complete a puzzle, but you are literally taking a leisurely stroll lol.
I also got the feeling the choices I was making didn’t really matter all that much either as I went back a few times to change certain choices to change the outcome, but the conclusion was exactly the same. While this isn’t necessarily a problem, it does however, completely remove the replayability factor from the game (I’ve only played season 1 so this might not apply to the other seasons).

Now, on to the positives the game has to offer…

From what I can tell the game is heavily influenced by the Walking Dead comics and NOT the T.V show. You can definitely see that graphically as it looks a lot like the comics as opposed to the common ‘movie style’ graphics we so often see so keep that in mind if you’re expecting to play a TV version of the game.
The story is truly compelling and utterly gripping! The choices you are forced to make can really mess with your head, the fallout for some of your choices can be instantaneous or brought up later on in the game. It’s one of those games where difficult choices tend to pop up where you least expect it, like everything is cool then suddenly you have to make a choice on who to save and with the added ‘countdown’ you don’t get a lot of time to make your decision which is great because it shows the choices you would of made in a real life, split second decision instead of allowing you to weigh up your options and make your decision based on what you might perceive the long and short term effects of your choices to be. For me there were 3 specific scenes that really left me wide eyed and a lump in my throat, but I won’t spoil it for anyone regardless of how old the game is.

The voice acting from all the cast is absolutely incredible and the voice actor for Lee Everett (Dave Fennoy) does an incredible job breathing life into a character you’ll be emotionally invested in. I also found myself loving some personalities and hating others, I was completely loyal and honest to Kenny and his family but hated Lilly, especially her father Larry but every character was really well thought out and their respective personalities shine through with the incredible voice acting of each character. It was also a welcome change playing as a person of colour (being a person of colour myself) as I’m able to identify more easily with the character (for those that think it doesn’t matter, think about how many of us male gamers play games with a female protagonist?) so it’s awesome to have some representation in games.

I think the story of Clementine and Lee is a truly beautiful one and I often found myself making the same speech choices in game as I would to my 10-year-old in RL (if we were trying to survive a zombie apocalypse). You definitely become emotionally invested in Clementine and made the unconscious decision of calling Clem my daughter in game which had negative effects with one or two characters in particular. You make choices as a parent which I think adds to the immersion.

Apart from the few problems I specified at the start of this review I can honestly rate this game as one of my favourites and feel completely embarrassed to be 9 years late to the party lol. If you haven’t played it yet I highly recommend you pick a copy up, especially if you value an intriguing and exciting story over beautiful graphics.

*** WARNING… HUGELY UNPOPULAR OPINION BELOW ***


So I have seen numerous reviews with people absolutely SLATING Cyberpunk 2077 with ‘it’s the worse game I’ve ever played’ ‘the bugs and glitches are a joke’ & ‘CDPR sucks!’. I have also seen the recent statement put out by CD Projeck Red apologising, saying they will fix the bugs and glitches ect but more importantly ‘asking for a chance to put things right’. Fellow gamers… I feel it necessary to point a few things out… CDPR gave us, the gaming community an absolute cracker in the Witcher franchise. The Witcher 3 is arguably the greatest RPG ever released! CDPR isn’t a huge company like Bioware, Konami or even Bethesda… When 90% of other companies decided to include ‘microtransactions’ into the games we love, CDPR took a stand and instead of making tens of millions from microtransactions (which they absolutely could of just by adding that to the Witcher 3) and helping the companies accounts grow they decided to do the right thing and stand by their convictions and thus with us, the gaming community.

Now I am NOT saying ‘continue to play a game that is completely broken for you’. If the game is unplayable then sure, get a refund because £50 is a lot for a game you can’t play, hell, any amount other than free is a lot if you can physically play the game but instead writing terrible reviews, wait and see if CDPR is willing to stand by their statement and fix the issues. Remember, this is a company that decided to ‘give away SIXTEEN DLC’s’ for the Witcher 3! Why? Because and I’m quoting the co-founder and Joint CEO of CD PROJEKT RED Marcin Iwiński:

““We love games. We love collecting them, playing them, and everything connected to that experience. Every time we reach out for a new release, we expect to be taken care of. We expect support if we encounter any problems. With the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we have decided to do it differently. Cutting to the chase, everyone who buys Wild Hunt will receive 16 specially prepared DLCs absolutely for free, regardless of platform. You don’t have to pre-order, you don’t have to buy any special edition to get them — if you own a copy of Wild Hunt, they’re yours. This is our way of saying thank you for buying our game.”

If that doesn’t sound like a company dedicated to providing us with bespoke, authentic gaming experiences then I don’t know what does and before everyone gets on my case, no, CDPR haven’t paid me a penny! This is just my opinion as someone who has been an avid gamer for the past 30 years!


*** IMPORTANT POINT I WANT TO MAKE BEFORE MY ACTUAL REVIEW***

Firstly, and most importantly.... 'NVIDIA DRIVERS' You will want to 'Check for Updates' because although there was an update released by Nvidia on the 02/12/2020, another was released when Cyberpunk dropped 09/12/2020 and it's called "GeForce Game Ready Driver, Version: 460.79". It will help ensure that your game doesn't crash (mine did on three occasions without it). Not sure if anyone else experienced the same issue I did but since doing a clean installation of 460.79 I’ve had absolutely no issues whatsoever and it runs flawlessly!

In your first proper mission with ‘Jackie Welles’ I would strongly recommend you not only decide to run the ‘simulation exercise’ but all FOUR and don’t ‘Delta Out’ after two as they are invaluable to know and understand. I’m sure all four categories are:

1. Target Practice – First with static then moving targets using a gun, then enemies using a rifle.

2. Hacking – Learning how to distract enemies in order to take them down via stealth.

3. Stealth – Discovering how to tag and mark plus enemy and security camera’s FOV.

4. Melee – CQC (Close Quarters Combat) and training with a Samurai sword.

These are not particularly long and can be completed in a relatively short period of time but the experience and understanding you gain from completing them that early on (getting to grips with the basics) is invaluable.

So, for a game that released a little over five days ago I’ve managed to clock around 80 hours thus far, so it's fair to say I am little addicted for sure lol I've spent my time mainly doing side quests (NCPD, Search and Discover etc..) along with a few main missions (I’m currently up to Act 2) and the game touches on some really Heavy ♥♥♥♥… Like ‘organ harvesting’, ‘cyberware harvesting’, 'mental health challenges', 'sexual exploitation', 'human trafficking' & 'personal losses' to name but a few and it all gets dark, very quickly into the story. I will openly admit that I regularly save my game just to reload certain arcs in the story so I can replay them again they are that compelling and utterly thrilling!

One scene in particular that got me more than any other thus far was Jackie’s Death (I know we all saw it in the trailers but so early in the game was a shock) I swear someone was cutting onions or something because that was a moment! I was so busy celebrating what I thought was a successful heist that when that scene came to an end it was a 'WTF moment' (I am sure it wasn't just me that felt that way either!).

I will say that getting Eurodollar’s is easy, especially if you decide to exploit the vending machines. I haven’t personally tired that and am completely broke (Cyberware can get damn expensive trust me lol) but I have heard people mention that you can earn 100-200k per hour doing that lol. I am sure there will be YouTube uploads explaining how it's done but I won't be including a link in my review for two reasons... Firstly, because I don't know if that would get you banned or not and finally, because I'm too much of a chicken ♥♥♥♥ to try it LOL so if you want to know how it's done proceed at your own risk.

Another thing that pleasantly surprised me was the driving... It is something very few developers ever get right (even in some racing games) and the fact that CDPR have only ever created games that involved horses to get you around it is damn good! Sure, there are moments you feel as if you are 'floating' a little but as a company’s first attempt it has absolutely nailed it in my humble opinion! I was also a little on the fence about it being in first person as opposed to third as most of the RPG's I play tend to be in third, but you can change the POV when driving so that’s always a plus!

Combat is also a solid feature of the game. I'll admit I prefer to hack security cams, then hack TF out of enemies but there are plenty of options at your disposal. Personally, I prefer hacks and the use of throwing knives and a Katana blade for CQC (Close Quarter Combat) i.e. the Stealth approach instead of going in all guns blazing. It's more of a challenge but worth it, especially when lobbing the heads and arms off enemies... Not sure why but I get great satisfaction removing ones head from one’s body while watching a fountain of blood leave the neck hole (should probably tell my psychiatrist about that lol) but seriously, if you're a MGS fan and stealth is your thing, I definitely recommend you give it a shot over using rifles and guns. There are plenty of weapons for you to make use of from shotguns and sniper rifles to LMG's and SMG's plus you can add attachments to most weapons (namely uncommon upwards) also you can add certain mods that help customise your play style. I'm a huge fan of using 'Cyberhacks' myself and you have plenty of choice in that department too.

I seriously LOVE his game.... It seems like now matter how long ago i last played FO4 I always come back for more....An endless classic!!!!

What started out as a review turned into a life story.....Once upon a time...

I was planning on buying The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) base game from an online digital marketplace, then maybe pick up the Morrowind chapter later on "if" I could get into it. To my surprise when I went to check it out on Steam it was £9.99 "WITH" the Morrowind chapter included in the overall price. A nice little surprise.
If you do decide to purchase this game I recommend creating an account on:

first, which you will have to do anyway in order to play the game as it's run through a 3rd party but it's easy enough. Just be aware though the “userid” you choose on the 3rd party site will be the “userid” displayed while you’re in game.

After I finished downloading the game through Steam I did have a slight issue with the installation... I noticed a few other people who have written a review for this game have also had the same hiccup but it is easily sorted out by "repairing" when prompted. Also, another thing to point out, you can play ESO with a controller (I am currently using a wired XBOX controller) if you fancy sitting back and relaxing, while you play on your big T.V then I’d strongly recommend not using KB/M. Unfortunately, it’s not as easy as the conventional “plug and play” you do have to enable it in settings-gameplay. Also, like Skyrim you can toggle from first to 3rd person with the touch of a button.

Now on to the best part... The game is truly TRULY beautiful, the colours are vibrant, stand out and feel genuinely warm. The Elder Scrolls Online really does a fantastic job making sure you feel completely immersed in the environment. For me, this is a huge plus! Personally when I am playing a game like this I want to feel like I’m no longer sitting on my sofa, in front of the T.V, I want to feel like I’m actually running around Tamriel, taking in the sights and sounds. This is what I mean when I stipulated I feel “completely immersed” and ESO does a hell of a job creating that escape into that magical fantasy world.

As crazy as this sounds, one of my favourite things about not only this but every game or movie I play or watch is its soundtrack and wow!! The Elder Scrolls Online is on the money again!! In my humble opinion a great soundtrack can make or break a game. Just look at “The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt” as an example, an amazing soundtrack = amazing game… “ELEX” ♥♥♥♥ soundtrack= ♥♥♥♥ game LOL (I know these are just my opinions but you get my point lol). ESO’s soundtrack is really something special... I looked into The Elder Scrolls Online soundtrack and they created it over a few YEARS and honestly it truly is a masterpiece. Amazon’s review has it 4.5/5 stars. It gives you this warm sense of nostalgia as it contains music from Skyrim.

I was racking my brain thinking what game The Elder Scrolls Online reminded me of… I know I'm kinda showing my age a little here but it's a lot like "Fable 3 crossed with Dragon Age: Inquisition" with some of the grand designs of some of the buildings and the atmosphere but again this is subjective as it purely my opinion.

The NPC's really blend in well with the environment and are able to create a truly unique atmosphere. Also, NPC's involved in the quests you partake in look amazing when you’re speaking to them. The body language feels genuine and the words are actually synced with the movement of NPC’s lips plus no crazy facial expressions like “Mass Effect Andromeda” LOL.


DIFFERENT RACES, FACTIONS & CLASSES

Another aspect I absolutely LOVE about this game is the “freedom of choice” and the “character customisation”. It is head and shoulders above most MMORPG’s on the market today. As far as I’m aware you are able to choose between TEN different races with THREE different factions that looks like this:

Argonian (Reptilian), Dunmer (Dark Elves), Nord (Human)

“Aldmeri” Dominion Faction Races

Altmer (High Elves), Bosmer (Wood Elves), Khajiit (Feline)

Imperials (Human) I think you have to purchase the “Imperial Edition of the game” to get access to this class and I think Imperials are able to join “any” faction.

on YouTube. The difference between choosing the minimum settings in comparison to the maximum is “Night and Day” TRULY! The textures, terrain, rendering ect are all obviously superior on the highest setting. I personally did the test myself using the R9 390X and can attest & confirm the evidence of the results. As most are aware it obviously depends heavily on what GPU you’re running ESO on but “if” you’re GPU allows you to run ESO on the highest settings I strongly recommend you do as you won’t be disappointed. Also, if you fancy pushing your hardware that little bit further and tweaking your graphical settings to improve your average FPS check this out on google, it’s pretty cool. This is, however, for advanced P.C enthusiasts not novices (No offence intended).

As I stipulated above I'm running ESO on my R9 390X and FX 8350 OC’ed @ 4.5GHz it truly looks AMAZING. It hardly puts any stress on my GPU at all which in my opinion is particularly impressive as my CPU is ancient (6+ years old) is more than likely bottlenecking my GPU. There is no stuttering, lag, tearing ect and my GPU temps are well within the respectable limits.

Honestly, I am struggling to find anything negative about this game... Obviously I am aware that there was a fair amount of problems when the game was initially released back in 2014 but given the amount of time from then to now I think it’s fair to say the patches and updates have done their intended job. One thing I will mention is this game can get REALLY expensive if you let it... True, it’s not a "Pay to Win" kinda game in the conventional sense but you do get the feeling with how slowly you acquire gold that it would most definitely be easier to just buy crowns (in-game currency) but that's something you have to search your own soul in deciding if it's worth it.

In my opinion the game is amazing, the soundtrack is amazing and what's more the customisation of your character is also another huge plus.

Overall Score:
9.6/10 – Amazing!!

One final comment I wish to end with and for me was kind of a make or break, potential deal-breaker was the ESO community… This community, for me is without a doubt the best community I have played online with to date. If you need help and ask 9/10 you get it. An example, I went into a dwarven mine while I was lvl 2 or 3 and kept dying so I asked someone who I had never spoken to before, who was on his/her way out if they could help me. We went back through everywhere they had been before, with me.. So I was able to complete that quest. Proper top draw community!!

Well where to begin with Vampyr?? I didn't wish to review this game to early thus ensuring i gave it the proper chance and in all honesty it was worth it. The story is quite confusing to grasp at the start and in all honesty i kept starting and stopping i.e an hour at first then went back a few days later. Then i got to the point where i was seduced by the story and thus felt like the game had finally become the immersive masterpiece i had been seeking.
If i could give one piece of advice for players just about to start...Don't take the life of your first victim outside the Penbrook hospital if you want to achieve the best ending as there is four different endings to this game. It has taken me around 70 hours to finally complete the game as I wanted to explore every avenue and story but i have heard or at least read about people completing the story in under 30. I strongly advise first time players against this strategy.
The beauty of this game is that it feels almost like you are "prepairing your meal before finally eating LOL (You will understand what i mean when you play it)".
I have read an awful lot of reviews of people disreguarding and pulling apart the combat ethics of the game which in my humble oppinion isn't warranted. The combat is just fine if you take the time to master it.
As a medic myself the formulas are rather accurate especially for the time Vampyr is set in also the use of latin in the game is a nice touch. You can see the dev's have put a fair amount of time researching certain aspects of the games story and dynamics, I especially like the 'Van Gough Painting and signed book from Bram Stoker" Fangtastic touch LOL.
Seriously ladies and gentlemen this game is definately one you'll want to play at least 2-3 playthroughs before putting it down and with the fact it does have 4 different ending suggests it does have a "more thab once " feel to the game. I know i certainly will as in my first playthrough i didn't take a life thus getting the best ending for me.
Ohh and one last thing...I noticed someone stipulated they had pirated the game as they, and i quote "didn't want to pay the currupted companies...". Ladies and gentlemen this isn't a game stuffed with microtransactions, DONTNOD and Focus are not big companies so please if you like the look of the game support them by purchasing a copy.

You know when you play a game and instantly think how much your friends will enjoy that game?
The graphics are amazing in my opinion, i managed to play it in 4K and the world of Rome and Britian looks amazing. I didn't experience any lag while in game and RYSE does a great job of making you feel immersed in it's world.
The fighting feels very basic but is very easy to get the hang of which makes it easy to complete high levels of combination thus giving you loads of experience to upgrade your character. The upgrades really give you the opportunity to style your character on how you play the game. I love how the game depicts emperor Nero and his sons also the brutality and gore give this game extra points for me...Fu.ckin love that ♥♥♥♥!!
The game can be played with either KB/M or with a XBOX controller and personally for this game i would recommend sitting back in your chair and using a gamepad as it makes the game a lot more enjoyable.
The only real let down (if you can call it that) is the story. While the story feels relevant it does have the habit of making the gameplay feel slightly redundant and at times feels very cliché and unfortunately isn't long enough, if your like me and enjoy a game it's all you play till you complete it or fall asleep trying lol you can complete the game in under 5 hours which is a shame as it makes you want MORE of it.I have noticed a lot of my friends own this game and have given it very positive reviews also and rightly so. It really is graphically beautiful as I mentioned previously. I can't mention what the multiplayer version is like as I haven't yet played it but if I can get my brother hooked on it i may give it a bash and will edit my review when applicable. With a price at currently £14.99 it's not only cheap but it's cheap, worth it's price tag AND enjoyable.

Now… What to say about this old, classic ‘psychological, PTSD military, third person shooter’ that hasn’t already been said? Its publishers are the famed 2K which has published classics such as Borderlands 2 & 3, MAFIA, Civilisation, XCOM, the BIOSHOCK trilogy, Duke Nukem and my absolute personal favourite… The Darkness II. This should be an indication of the pedigree and quality of Spec Ops: The Line.

Another benefit is the fact its API is DirectX: 9.0 meaning you can completely max out the settings even on a relatively old rig and your CPU & GPU temps remain super low (mine didn’t go past 40c) and graphically its aged remarkably well which is a pleasant surprise. Sure, it’s never going to look as magnificent as the Witcher 3 but it doesn’t need to be.

The total storage needed is only 10GB meaning it obviously won’t need as long to download and it’s not really a game you need to uninstall to free up space for a new game.

The game is set in Dubai, Saudi Arabia, the worst series of sandstorms in recorded history began across Dubai. Six months prior to the start of Spec Ops: The Line the city's politicians and wealthy have downplayed the situation before evacuating secretly, leaving the population behind as the city is engulfed and swallowed by the Rubʿ al-Khali sand desert. Col. (colonel) John Konrad, Commander of the "Damned 33rd" Infantry Battalion, volunteers his 33rd battalion to help relief efforts... He fails and struggling to maintain order amid the winds, riots, and dwindling resources, the 33rd declared martial law and began committing atrocities against the civilian population.

Fast forward to the start of the game and the US military sends CPT (Captain) Martin Walker, a member of Delta Force (an elite branch of the US military, the equivalent to our SAS here in the UK as they are both airborne special forces). Along with SSG (Staff Sargent) John Lugo & 1LT (First Lieutenant) Alphonso Adams. You play as CPT Martin Walker, the games main protagonist, You and your two squaddies are sent to carry out two mission objectives, firstly, recon (recognisance) to search for any remaining survivors then secondly, radio for an immediate ‘evac’ of any survivors they encounter…

The ♥♥♥♥ hits the fan straight from the opening scene and as the game progresses the horrific choices you’ve made takes their toil on your characters already fractured state of mind, leading to his PTSD becoming more and more pronounced as the game progresses… I’d recommend you play it at least twice to fully experience the different endings and make different choices. If memory serves, I’m sure Spec Ops has a total of ‘four’ different endings.

The story is fantastic, and is told remarkably well, it is gripping and leaves you wondering what you could have done differently, especially at the end. The story touches on the ‘destructive element war has on the human psyche’. I strongly recommend NOT researching to much about the game as it will ‘give the game away’ (no pun intended lol). You will also pick up on the ‘smaller’ details once you play it for a second (third and fourth) time but will almost definitely miss these small but magnificent details during your first play through as they are beautifully and perfectly integrated with the environment that’s thought provoking and forces you to ask yourself how you could of missed that! It’s the small details, different endings and fully immersive story telling that gives this masterpiece added replay value. There is a particular part in the game that will leave you thinking ‘What the ♥♥♥♥ have I just done, I am a monster’ which is multiplied by Lugo’s outburst but I absolutely won’t spoil that shocking moment for you but you’ll instantly know what I’m talking about once the event unfolds and the results of your actions are laid bare lol.

The two AI squaddies that accompany you on this mission are:

SSG (Staff Sargent) John Lugo, He is the squad's designated marksman and medic. Outside of combat, Lugo is depicted as the team's engineer and a translator. His reactions to your orders will make you question your morals and choices throughout the game and

1LT (First Lieutenant) Alphonso Adams, He is the squad’s heavy gunner. Out of combat, he is used as the team's breacher and tracker. Adams feels a lot more loyal (namely at the start of the game) and will try to explain the decisions you make away.

A huge plus is the voice acting of every character within Spec Ops but namely Walkers character. Cpt Martin Walker is voiced by none other than Nolan North who is the voice actor in FIVE Call of Duty games, Prince of Persia, Star Wars: The Old Republic and its following expansions, Dota 2, Team Fortress 2 and Destiny 2: Forsaken along with a string of animated movies. So… Yeah, the voice acting by every character in Spec Ops: The Line is flawless.

Multiplayer:

I have to be completely honest here and say I haven’t even tried Spec Ops multiplayer as of yet so this element of the review is strictly what I have read, other people’s opinions and a trailer from YouTube so you can see for yourself. As I mentioned at the very top of my review looking at Spec Ops Steam store page that they don’t actually have trailers for the solo-player campaign or the multiplayer aspect so I have included the multiplayer trailer I found on YouTube below in order for potential buyers to decide if purchasing the game is the right choice for them.

Co-Optimus gave the multiplayer aspect a 2.5/5 rating and stipulated that while co-op mode is a nice addition, with missions taking around 10 – 15 minutes to complete, are tense and fun, the games main attraction is indeed the solo-player campaign. So, I going to say that co-op is a fun way to pass the time and add a different layer to the game, it doesn’t affect or impact the solo-player campaign in any way, positive or negative. I’m guessing that finding other players, eight years and four months after Spec Ops initial release will present a challenge. Judging by the comments on the multiplayer trailer people do enjoy it.

In my humble opinion this game is amazing… The story is one of my favourite solo-player campaigns ever… The soundtrack is amazing and has a very Vietnam ‘Platoon and Apocalypse now’ feel to it and what's more the fact it still looks great after 8 years when playing at 4k resolution is a very pleasant surprise. If this game has only just come on your radar, I truly am envious lol.
