Loved Outlast 1 and 2. Outlast Trials is a bit different, but I love it nonetheless.
- Co-op Horror game where teammates band together to solve tasks, distract enemies, and escape.
- Character personalization and a sense of prestige as you play longer, you will unlock more and more tools/perks.
- Cool arm wrestling game.
- Red Barrels also introduced "Seasons" during the early access, possibly allowing for new missions over time.

One thing I wished they added are Steam Achievements to this game. But there are ingame badges.

♥♥♥♥ you to whoever landed five whites in a row against me in arm wrestling.

I've had Payday since December 2014. I purchased all the DLC individually when they came out except for a select few in which they could be bought as a bundle (e.g. The Gage Weapon Packs 1-2). Although there are many other players out there who definitely have a better feel of this game than me, I hope that my experience and thoughts will still be of some help to you. Before I get into the pros and cons of this game, I just want to present some interesting aspects of this game that appeal to me (don't have to apply to other Payday Community Members).

-Story

The Payday Story-line is quite simple but it adds some flair to the game. All the heisters as well as the contractors are given a small backstory whether it be through an introduction of a weapon pack or a heist (e.g. The Hoxton Breakout). It's also nice that they got famous actors to play some of these people. (Giancarlo :)) The Payday Web Series also explains some of the heisters and their own stories. Although many other games have larger stories or lore (LoL), I can say that Payday 2's is still very interesting.

-References to Pop Culture

Although many games do reference contemporary media and events, I find it refreshing that Payday 2 has its own creative way of doing so. This ranges from clever achievement names (some of these are quite annoying however) to masks that feature history's most renowned and controversial presidents (Richard Nixon, Barack Obama, Donald Trump )

Ok, now let's get into some of the bad things I've noticed throughout my Payday career.

-Micro transactions

Overkill Studios promised before that they would no longer release DLC or other content which featured micro transactions (paying real-life money for virtual goods). However, in the Black-market update, this was not the case. Players could now purchase items that gave a slight boost to their character in game. Many players were outraged at this. (Myself included) I personally viewed the release of weapon skins and conditions as a way of trying to cash in on some of CS:GO's revenue on skin transactions for guns. Some players were more concerned with the fact that the skins now offered an advantage (despite being somewhat small) over players that didn't have them. This earned Payday 2 a "pay-to-win" game among some of the community. Obviously, this affects you less if you are a new player.

-Cheaters and Anti-Cheat

As many Payday 2 players may have noticed again and again, Payday 2 is flooded with cheaters. These cheats range from god mode and explosive rapid fire bullets to unlocking all the DLC for free as well as the achievements. Overkill has taken a rather passive approach to this issue in my belief. Lobbies have the ability to "auto-kick cheaters" but no formal discouragement has been made against cheaters. This has particularly impacted me as many players have accused me of cheating or requesting the help of my "cheats" simply because I am max infamy and I like to wear the OD mask. (A meta of Payday 2 cheaters) Players are now either dependent on cheaters for success in the game or demonize them. This creates a divide in the community which ultimately requires Overkill to take a formal stance.

There are definitely more issues in this game that need to be addressed. However, at the time of this review, these are the ones that clearly stood out to me throughout my playtime.

-Game Design

Perhaps the greatest appeal to me when I play Payday 2 is the elegant way heists are created. Payday 2 now offers 50 different heists. All of these vary in their stealth/loud approach as well as their objectives and the journeys to them. Almost no two heist is the game (except for maybe the Armoured Transport and Harvee Trustee) My personal favorite for some fun game play with friends would be Big Bank whether it be loud or silent. However, that's just me.

-Updates and Hotfixes

Whether or not you hate the fact that Payday 2 features paid DLC, I don't think you can deny is still getting frequent updates. Yes, I know the desync issue has been there for some time but at least now it's getting acknowledged. Overkill also responds well to user feedback of their gameplay as hotfixes are sometimes released the day after a new update is. New maps, characters as well as weapons are what keep this game alive. Difficulty tweaks also brought some veteran players back into the game as we tried our skills on the new difficulty of One Down. The Skill Tree revamp was very controversial at the time but it let the community move away from the akimbo pistol dodge meta and try to find new ways of surviving OD (even now).

-New Life

Payday 2 is currently swamped with new players with the recent giveaway of Payday 2 copies as well as the release of the Ultimate edition. I find that although players that have had this game for some time are annoyed at this, I find it relaxing that the Steam community can now enjoy this great game which to some, may not have bought simply because of its large amount of DLC. However, I can only hope that I can share my great feelings of joy when I play this game with other people. Payday 2 gameplay is extremely smooth from the reload and examine animations to the firefight between Winters and heisters. Although this game still has many bugs (stealth detection), I trust that our new player base will encourage Overkill to examine this issues and advance this game further.

If you've made it this far I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart that you made it through the mess of grammatical and syntax errors that is my review. I hope that you do buy the game and enjoy all that it has to offer or that you continue to do so if you already have it now. If you've just scrolled to the bottom, then just know that this game is clearly worth it to buy but it does have issues. But hey, nothing's perfect.
